ZYXEL NR5309 5G NR Indoor Router
Quick Start Guide
This guide covers the setup for your Zyxel NR5309 5G NR Indoor Router.
Step 1: Hardware Installation
1. Insert SIM Card
Ensure the device is turned off. Locate the nano SIM card slot on the bottom of the device. Slide the cover to the side to access the SIM tray. Push in and then pull out the SIM card tray from the SIM card slot. Place the nano SIM card in the tray with the chip facing up. Gently push the SIM card tray back into the SIM card slot and slide the cover back into place.
2. Connect Power
Select the appropriate plug type for your country. Use the included power adapter to connect the device to a suitable power source. Press the On/Off button to turn on the device. Verify that the POWER LED is lit. Avoid contact with liquid; handle with care.
Step 2: Network Connection
2.a. Manual Connection (using Wi-Fi Name)
Find the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Password. On your smartphone or laptop, search for this Wi-Fi Name and enter the Wi-Fi Password to connect. Alternatively, on your mobile device, scan the provided QR code and follow the prompts to connect to the device's Wi-Fi network.
2.b. Automatic Connection (using WPS)
To establish a secure Wi-Fi connection between the device and a wireless client using WPS, press the WPS button on the front of the device for at least 3 seconds. Then, press the WPS button on the client device within 2 minutes. If the WPS method fails, use the Wi-Fi Name and Wi-Fi Password to set up a Wi-Fi connection.
WPS LED Indicator Table:
- Wi-Fi/WPS LED: Green Blinking - The device is establishing WPS connection.
- Wi-Fi/WPS LED: On - The WLAN interface is enabled.
2.c. Using Ethernet Cable
Connect a computer to one of the yellow LAN ports on the device using an Ethernet cable.
Step 3: Configuration
3. Configure Device
You can download the Zyxel Air app or use the Web Configurator to manage the device. To log into the Zyxel Air app for the first time, scan the Login QR code or enter the admin username and password from the device label. Alternatively, open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.1.1. Enter the admin username and password (typically 'admin' and 'XXXXXXXXXX' found on the device label) and click Login.
LED Indicator Table
- Power/System LED: Blue On - One or more unread SMS messages. Blue Blinking - SMS inbox is full. Green Blinking - Device is booting. Green On - Power is on. Off - Power is off. Red On - Error, contact service provider.
- Internet LED: Blue On - Internet connected via 5G. Green On - Internet connected via 4G or Ethernet WAN. Red On - Internet unavailable.
- Cellular Signal Strength LED: Blue On - Good signal strength. Green On - Fair signal strength. Red On - Poor signal strength. Blinking - No SIM card inserted or SIM card invalid. Blinking - No cellular signal or signal too weak to detect.
- Wi-Fi/WPS LED: Green Blinking - Device is establishing WPS connection. On - WLAN interface is enabled. Off - WLAN interface is disabled.
- All LEDs: Green Blinking - Device is resetting to factory default settings or upgrading firmware.
Troubleshooting
Power and Hardware Connections
- Ensure the SIM card is correctly installed.
- Ensure the power adapter is connected correctly.
Device Access and Login
- Verify the correct IP address is used (default is 192.168.1.1). If forgotten, reset the device to factory defaults by pressing the Reset button for at least 5 seconds.
- Ensure your browser does not block pop-up windows and has JavaScript enabled.
- Enter the username and password correctly (default credentials are on the device label). If they don't work, reset the device to factory defaults.
Internet Access
- Insert a 5G/LTE SIM card before powering on the device.
- Log into the Web Configurator, navigate to Wizard, and check Wi-Fi Setup settings.
- Ensure the 5G/LTE SIM card account is valid and has an active data plan.
- Test pre-paid SIM cards in another 5G/LTE device. Contact vendor if it works there but not on this device, or contact service provider if it doesn't work elsewhere.
Wi-Fi Connections
- Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled on the device.
- Verify the wireless adapter on your computer is working.
5G/LTE Connections
- Ensure the SIM card's account is valid and has an active data plan.
- Install external antennas to strengthen the cellular signal.
