DTS Yacht Lever Electronic Remote Control

Choosing a Location and Preparing for Installation

The electronic remote control provides engine throttle and shift input to the control system and houses the DTS Track Pad on some models. For clearance requirement specifications, refer to the MerCruiser Sterndrive Applications Manual.

NOTE: Mask the area to be cut to reduce chipping and cracking.

Mounting Instructions

  1. Locate the area of the boat where the remote control is to be mounted. Allow sufficient clearance for handle movement and wiring.
  2. Select the correct template for the mounting application.
  3. Place the template over the mounting area. Cut and drill as instructed on the template.

IMPORTANT: After cutting the mounting area, remove any sharp edges.

Diagram showing cutout dimensions and mounting hole locations. Key dimensions include 2-13/64 in., 2-3/32 in., 3-7/8 in., 2-3/4 in., 3/4 in. diameter, 1/4 in. diameter, 3-1/2 in., 3/8 in. An arrow indicates 'FRONT OF BOAT'.

Cutout Dimensions

Detailed diagram showing the hexagonal cutout shape with mounting hole positions. Dimensions are provided in millimeters and inches: 6.35 mm (0.250 in.), 19.00 mm (0.750 in.), 55.88 mm (2.20 in.), 53.18 mm (2.094 in.), 98.42 mm (3.875 in.), 89.00 mm (3.50 in.), 69.85 mm (2.750 in.), 9.50 mm (0.375 in.). An arrow indicates 'Arrow towards front of boat'.

Installing the Dual-Handle Electronic Remote Control with DTS Trackpad

  1. Ensure that the opening is free of sharp edges.
  2. Route the wiring for the electronic remote control (ERC) through the opening.
Illustration showing two wiring harnesses being routed through an opening. The ERC and remote control harness connectors are color-coded: yellow for port and blue for the starboard engine control.

Connecting Harnesses and Final Installation

  1. Match the colors on the harness to the colors on the ERC to ensure proper orientation. Connect the helm harness remote control connectors to the ERC.
  2. Illustration of the ERC with connected harnesses. Labels indicate: a - For starboard engine harness, b - For port engine harness, c - DTS trackpad connection (if equipped), d - Bracket with holes for bayonet ends.
  3. Insert the anchor clips of the two remote control harnesses into the ERC bracket holes to prevent disconnection.
  4. Form a loop in the ERC harness with a radius of at least 8 cm (3 in.) and attach it to the metal bracket under the ERC with a cable tie.
  5. Close-up view of the ERC harness secured with a cable tie to a metal bracket. Labels indicate: a - Cable tie, b - Metal bracket, c - Anchor clips of ERC harness, d - Loop.
  6. If the helm has a Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) trackpad, connect the trackpad harness to the standard 6-way junction box.
  7. Place the remote control over the opening.
  8. Image of the DTS Yacht Lever Electronic Remote Control unit.
  9. Securely fasten the remote control with four M6 x 40 screws, washers, and self-locking nuts.

Tension Adjustment

CAUTION: Overtightening the detent tension adjustment screw can damage the control module. Do not turn this screw more than 11 turns from the initial point of hex head contact with bracket.

  1. Set the control handle tension adjustment screw to increase or decrease the overall effort to move the control handle through its range of motion. Proper adjustment will help prevent unwanted handle motion in rough water. Turn the screw clockwise for more tension, or counterclockwise for less tension.
  2. Set the handle detent tension adjustment screw to increase or decrease the overall effort needed to move the control handle out of its detent positions. Proper adjustment will help prevent the handles from moving out of their detents until desired. Turn the screw clockwise for more resistance, or counterclockwise for less resistance.
  3. Close-up view of the control module showing adjustment screws. Labels indicate: a - Detent tension adjustment (Marked "De"), b - Control handle tension adjustment (Marked "Fr").

Final Installation Steps

  1. Install the side covers with attaching screws. Ensure that ears on side covers are hooked under the main shell before tightening screws.
  2. Illustration of the side cover installation. Labels indicate: a - Side cover (2), b - Attaching screws (4) M4 x 20. Shows starboard side, port side is similar.
