Understanding the Air Quality Light

The air quality light indicates the current air quality. It turns on when the purifier is switched on and cycles through colors. After about 30 seconds, the particle sensor selects the color corresponding to the surrounding air quality. The color is determined by the highest index among PM2.5 and IAI readings.

Air Quality Levels

PM2.5 (Particulate Matter ≤ 2.5 micrometers)

AeraSense technology accurately detects and responds to particle changes, providing real-time PM2.5 feedback. Common indoor sources include tobacco smoke, cooking, and burning candles. Bacteria, mold spores, and pet/dust mite allergens also fall under PM2.5.

7. Troubleshooting

This chapter summarizes common problems and their solutions. If you cannot solve the problem, contact the Philips Consumer Care Center.

Common Problems and Solutions

  • Problem: The appliance does not work properly.
  • Possible Solution: The filter replacement alert is on, but the filter was not replaced, locking the appliance. Replace the filter and long-press the [Light Button] ? and [Mode Button] ⚙️ to reset the filter lifetime counter.
  • Problem: The airflow from the air outlet is significantly weaker than before.
  • Possible Solution: The surface of the filter is dirty. Clean the surface of the filter (see "Cleaning and Maintenance").
  • Problem: The air quality does not improve, even though the appliance has been operating for a long time.
  • Possible Solution: Check if the filter packing material is removed. Ensure the filter (FY1700/30) is properly installed. The particle sensor might be wet due to high humidity; ensure it is clean and dry. The room size might be large, or outdoor air quality poor; close doors and windows for optimal performance. Indoor pollution sources (smoking, cooking, incense, perfume, alcohol) may affect performance. The filter may have reached the end of its life; replace it.
  • Problem: The color of the air quality light always stays the same.
  • Possible Solution: The particle sensor is dirty. Clean the particle sensor (see "Cleaning and Maintenance").
  • Problem: The appliance produces a strange smell.
  • Possible Solution: A plastic smell during the first few uses is normal. If a burnt smell occurs even after removing filters, contact Philips. The filter may develop an odor after absorbing indoor gases; reactivating it in direct sunlight might help. If the odor persists, replace the filter.
  • Problem: The appliance is extra loud.
  • Possible Solution: It is normal for the appliance to be loud in Turbo mode. In Auto mode, high speed might indicate worsening air quality; consider using Sleep mode. If there is an abnormal sound, contact the Consumer Care Center. Foreign objects in the air outlet can also cause loud sounds; turn off the appliance immediately, turn it upside down to remove foreign objects.
  • Problem: The appliance still indicates a filter replacement is needed, but it has already been replaced.
  • Possible Solution: The filter lifetime counter may not have been reset. Switch on the appliance, then touch and hold the [Light Button] ? and [Mode Button] ⚙️ for 3 seconds.
  • Problem: Error code "E1" displays on the screen.
  • Possible Solution: The motor may have malfunctions. Contact the Philips Consumer Care Center.
