Yamaha PSR-F52 Digital Keyboard

Owner's Manual

Thank you for purchasing this Yamaha digital keyboard. This instrument is a portable keyboard with a wide variety of sounds and functions. We recommend reading this manual carefully to fully utilize the instrument's sophisticated and practical features. Please keep this manual in a safe and accessible place for future reference.

Safety Precautions

Please read the following precautions carefully to avoid personal injury, damage to the instrument, or other property damage.

For the AC Adapter

WARNING:

  • This AC adapter is exclusively for use with Yamaha electronic musical instruments. Do not use it for any other purpose.
  • For indoor use only. Do not use in humid environments.

CAUTION:

  • When setting up, ensure the AC outlet is easily accessible. If any problems or malfunctions occur, immediately turn off the instrument and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet. Note that when the AC adapter is plugged in, the instrument consumes a small amount of power even when turned off. If you do not plan to use the instrument for an extended period, be sure to unplug the power cord from the outlet.

For the Instrument

WARNING: Always observe the following precautions to prevent serious injury or even fatal accidents due to electric shock, short circuits, fire, or other hazards. These precautions are not exhaustive:

Power Supply / AC Adapter

  • Do not place the power cord near heat sources such as heaters or radiators. Protect the cord from excessive kinking or other damage, and do not place heavy objects on it.
  • Connect the instrument only to the AC voltage specified on the instrument. The required voltage is printed on the instrument's rating plate.
  • Use only the specified adapter (Page 10). Using an inadequate adapter may cause damage or overheating of the instrument.
  • Regularly check the condition of the AC plug and remove any accumulated dirt or dust.

Do Not Open!

  • This instrument contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open the instrument or remove or alter any internal components. If a malfunction occurs, immediately take it out of operation and have it inspected by a qualified Yamaha service technician.

Caution with Water

  • Be careful not to get the instrument wet from rain, do not use it near water or in humid or wet environments, and do not place containers (such as vases, bottles, or glasses) with liquids on it that could spill and flow into openings. If a liquid such as water gets into the instrument, immediately turn off the power supply and unplug the power cord from the outlet. Then have the instrument inspected by a qualified Yamaha service technician.
  • Never plug in or unplug the AC plug with wet hands.

Fire Prevention

  • Do not place any burning objects (e.g., candles) on the instrument. A burning object could fall over and cause a fire.

Effects on Electro-Medical Devices

  • Magnetic fields can affect electro-medical devices. Do not use this device near medical equipment or in areas where radio frequency radiation is prohibited. Maintain a minimum distance of 15 cm (6 inches) between the product and individuals with pacemakers or defibrillators when using this product.

Batteries

  • Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in explosion, fire, or battery leakage.
  • Do not tamper with or disassemble batteries.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
  • Do not expose batteries to high temperatures, such as direct sunlight or fire.
  • Never attempt to recharge batteries that are not designed for multiple use and recharging.
  • Do not store batteries together with metallic objects such as necklaces, hairpins, coins, and keys.
  • Use only the specified battery types (Page 10).
  • Use new batteries, all of the same type, model, and manufacturer.
  • Always ensure that all batteries are inserted according to the polarity markings (+/-).
  • If the batteries are depleted or you do not plan to use the instrument for an extended period, remove the batteries from the instrument.
  • When using NiMH batteries, follow the instructions supplied with the batteries. Use only the specified charger for recharging.
  • Keep batteries away from small children who might accidentally swallow them.
  • If batteries leak, avoid any contact with the leaked fluid. If the battery fluid comes into contact with eyes, mouth, or skin, wash immediately with water and consult a doctor. Battery fluid is corrosive and can cause loss of eyesight or chemical burns.

If You Notice Anything Unusual with the Instrument

  • If any of the following problems occur, immediately turn off the power switch and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet. (If using batteries, remove all batteries from the instrument.) Then have the unit inspected by a qualified Yamaha service technician.
  • The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.
  • The instrument emits an unusual odor or smoke.
  • An object has fallen into the instrument.
  • Sound suddenly cuts out during instrument use.
  • Cracks or breaks are present on the instrument.

Voices

The Voices are the heart of the PSR-F52; you can play over 144 realistic instrument sounds (Page 11) on the keyboard. The following functions are helpful when selecting and playing a Voice:

  • OTS (One-Touch Setting; Voice No. 000): When a Song/Style is selected, choosing Voice No. 000 automatically selects the most suitable Voice for playing with that Song/Style.
  • Sustain: To turn this function on/off, press and hold [SHIFT] and then press [VOICE]. When on, played Voices will have a longer decay or "Sustain".
  • Sound Boost ➤➤ Page 9: This function helps you play louder and with more power without using external speakers.

Duo: When this function is on, the keyboard is divided into two sections with the same Voice and octave range (C1-F#3 and G3-C6). This is useful for playing or practicing with two players (e.g., student and teacher). Instructions for turning this function on/off are on Page 9.

(Diagram Description: A representation of a piano keyboard divided into two sections, labeled "Left Player" and "Right Player", showing the key ranges C1 to F#3 and G3 to C6.)

Songs

The PSR-F52 includes 69 specially recorded tracks (Page 15) for playing along, practicing, or simply listening. Download the free Digital Song Book (Page 5) and practice the included Songs!

Use the keys below to control playback as desired.

When Song playback is stopped, you can start the Song by simply playing a key.

During Song playback, you can pause/resume the Song.

Styles

Styles provide exciting playing possibilities with full accompaniment in a variety of music genres. Simply play the root notes of chords in your left hand and enjoy playing with a full band accompaniment!

After selecting a Style (Page 6), the keyboard area to the left of the F#2 key becomes the "Accompaniment Keyboard" and is used solely for specifying accompaniment chords.

Try selecting Style No. 65 "6/8 March" and playing the root notes of chords in your left hand while playing a melody in your right hand.

(Diagram Description: Shows the keyboard layout with the "Accompaniment Keyboard" range indicated up to F#2, and the "Melody" range for the right hand. Includes an example chord progression with notes and rhythm.)

* If sharps (#) or flats (b) are indicated on your score, turn on the "Smart Chord Key" (Page 9) before playing a Style.

Use the keys below for Style playback:

When Style playback is stopped, you can start the Style by simply playing a key.

During Style playback, you can play a fill-in to rhythmically vary your performance. * Styles in the PIANIST category do not have fill-in sections.

Accesses the tempo setting for changing it. ➤➤ Page 7

Mutes the accompaniment part, allowing you to play along only with the rhythm part. To restore the full accompaniment, press the key again and play a key in the accompaniment keyboard area.

Intro and Ending (Introduction/Ending Section): By default, Intro and Ending patterns are automatically added to the beginning and end of Style playback due to the Auto Intro/Ending function (Page 9). To manually add an Intro and Ending Style, turn off the Auto Intro/Ending function and press [SHIFT] and [START/STOP] simultaneously before starting/ending Style playback.

Chord Fingering Technique ➤➤ Page 9: Playing chords during Style playback is called "Chord Fingering Technique." This instrument offers two chord fingering techniques. "Smart Chord" (intelligent chord selection) is the default setting.
