Trackpad and Touch Screen Gestures
This section details the various gestures used to interact with the trackpad and touch screen on your ThinkPad computer.
Trackpad Gestures
The trackpad offers several gestures for navigation and interaction:
Left-click zone
The left side of the trackpad is the left-click zone.
Right-click zone
The right side of the trackpad is the right-click zone.
Notes on Trackpad Usage:
- Some gestures may not be available in specific cases, such as after using the TrackPoint pointing device, when using certain apps, or when fingers are too close together.
- The trackpad might be insensitive if fingers are too close to the edge, if the trackpad is touched with wet fingers, or if the surface is stained.
- To clean the trackpad, turn off the computer and gently wipe the surface with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with lukewarm water or computer cleaner.
One and Two-Finger Touch Gestures

Three- and Four-Finger Touch Gestures

To change other settings, such as cursor speed, touch gesture, and trackpad sensitivity:
- Type touchpad in the Windows search box and press Enter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to change the settings.
Touch Screen Gestures (for selected models)
For computers with a touch-enabled screen, you can interact directly with the screen using your fingers.
Notes on Touch Screen Usage:
- Some gestures might not be available in certain apps.
- Do not use gloved fingers or incompatible pens on the screen, as this may affect sensitivity or cause the screen to not respond.
- The touch screen is delicate. Avoid applying excessive pressure or touching the screen with hard or sharp objects to prevent malfunction or damage.

To enable three- and four-finger touch gestures:
- Type touch gesture in the Windows search box and press Enter.
- Turn on the Three- and four-finger touch gestures switch.

Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues
If the touch screen is not sensitive or does not respond:
- Turn off the computer.
- Use a dry, soft, and lint-free cloth or absorbent cotton to remove fingerprints or dust. Do not use solvents.
- Restart the computer and check if the touch screen works normally.
- If the issue persists, type Windows Update in the Windows search box and press Enter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update Windows.
- Check if the touch screen works normally after the update.
- If the problem continues, the touch screen may be damaged. Contact Lenovo Customer Support Center.
Connecting to External Displays
Connect your computer to a projector or monitor for presentations or to expand your workspace.
Connect to a Wired Display
If your computer does not detect the external display, right-click on the desktop, select display settings, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: Refresh rates higher than 60 Hz may be supported, but the maximum resolution might be limited.
Connect to a Wireless Display
Ensure both your computer and the external display support the Miracast® feature. Press Windows logo key + K and select a wireless display to connect.
Set the Display Mode
Press F7 or Fn + F7 and select your preferred display mode.
Change Display Settings
- Right-click a blank area on the desktop and select display settings.
- Select the display you want to configure and change its settings.
You can configure settings for both the computer display and the external display, including setting the main and secondary displays, resolution, and orientation.
Convertible Multi-Modes
Your computer can be opened to a 360-degree angle, allowing you to switch between different convertible multi-modes:
- Notebook mode: Use the trackpad and pointing device for tasks like entering text.
- Stand mode: Ideal for video calls or presentations.
- Tent mode: Suitable for watching videos or viewing slide shows.
- Tablet mode: Best for writing, drawing, or playing touch-enabled games.
Note: In stand, tent, and tablet modes, the keyboard and pointing device are disabled. The touch screen is used for control. They re-enable automatically when switching back to notebook mode.
Important: Do not rotate the display with excessive force, especially near the upper-right or upper-left corners, to avoid damaging the display or hinges.
Lenovo Slim Pen (for selected models)
The Lenovo Slim Pen offers a precise and easy way to write and sketch. It attaches magnetically to your computer.

Notes on Pen Usage:
- The default function of the barrel buttons may vary by application.

Charging the Pen
- Remove the pen cap as shown.
- Connect the pen to a charger using a USB-C cable.
- Reinstall the pen cap after charging.
Placing the Pen
Attach the pen to the magnetic side of your computer. Depending on the scenario:
- Attach to the right side of the display for temporary use.
- Attach to the right side of the body for carrying.
Note: Ensure the pen tip is oriented correctly when attaching to prevent it from falling.
Maintenance Tips for the Pen:
- Do not attach the pen to areas other than the designated magnetic sides to avoid damage to the pen or computer.
- The pen is not waterproof; keep it away from water and excessive moisture.
- Store the pen in a well-ventilated, dry area away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid storing or using the pen in environments with extreme temperature changes, such as in a car.
- The pen contains pressure sensors. Apply appropriate pressure when writing on the screen and avoid shock or vibration.
Lenovo Apps
This section introduces Lenovo applications designed to enhance your computer experience.
Lenovo Commercial Vantage
Lenovo Commercial Vantage is a comprehensive solution for maintaining your computer, offering automated updates, fixes, hardware configuration, and personalized support.
- Access Vantage by typing Lenovo Commercial Vantage in the Windows search box.
- Features may vary by model and updates. Ensure you have the latest version and Windows updates installed.
Vantage app features include:
- Device status and settings customization.
- UEFI BIOS, firmware, and driver updates.
- Computer health monitoring and security against threats.
- Hardware scanning and diagnostics.
- Warranty status lookup.
- Access to User Guides and articles.
- Temporary disabling of input devices for cleaning.
- Smart features like noise suppression and presence detection.
Lenovo View
Lenovo View enhances camera quality and provides collaboration features for video calls.
- Access Lenovo View by typing Lenovo View in the Windows search box.
Key features include:
- Video Enhancer: Adjusts camera parameters (light, intensity, color) and reduces noise for better video calls, automatically improving brightness and colors in low light.
- Background Removal: Conceals your background during video calls.
- Auto-framing: Keeps your face centered during video calls even when you move.
- Virtual presenter: Overlays your face onto presentation materials.
Privacy Features
- Privacy Alert: Displays an alert icon when someone is looking over your shoulder.
- Privacy Guard: Blurs your screen when a shoulder surfer is detected.
Note: For ePrivacy displays, Privacy Guard enables automatically. Press Alt+F2 to cancel the blur.
Wellness Features
- Posture Warning: Reminds you to adjust your posture if you hunch over the screen.
- Eye Wellness: Prompts you to look away from the screen and rest your eyes every 20 minutes.
Notes: Features may vary by model, require the camera shutter to be open, and some may not be usable simultaneously. Lenovo View app updates periodically.
TrackPoint Quick Menu
Launch the TrackPoint Quick Menu by double-tapping the TrackPoint pointing stick. Single-tapping can also be configured.
- Click the flyout and then click ADVANCED SETTINGS.
- Select Single-tapping under TrackPoint Quick Menu Launch.
The TrackPoint Quick Menu is enabled by default. Press Fn+G to disable or enable the double-tapping gesture.
Using the TrackPoint Quick Menu
Customize the quick menu by clicking the edit button to rearrange features in the preview panel.
- Camera: Adjust brightness, contrast, and reset settings.
- Microphone: Mute and adjust sound effects with modes like Center mode (captures speaker's voice) and Spatial mode (captures speaker and ambience).
- Voice typing: Convert speech to text by clicking START VOICE TYPING.
- Battery: Extend battery lifespan by setting a charging threshold below 100% in the Vantage app.
- Audio playback: Select output devices and adjust volume.
- Noise suppression: Reduce background noise during meetings. Options include Off, Low (suppress low-level noise), and High (suppress all non-speech noise).
Note: Noise suppression requires Dolby Voice to be on. Click the link in NOISE SUPPRESSION to enable it.
Haptic Touchpad Button Area
Enable or disable TrackPoint buttons. When enabled, the haptic touchpad area functions as traditional mouse buttons. When disabled, it becomes part of the haptic touchpad. Access ADVANCED SETTINGS for customization.
Quick Clean
Temporarily disable input devices for cleaning. Features may vary with updates; click LEARN MORE for details.
Intelligent Cooling
Intelligent Cooling adjusts power consumption, fan speed, temperature, and performance. Switch modes using F8 or by right-clicking the battery icon and selecting power settings.
Preferred Modes:
Mode | Recommended scenario |

Balanced | Frequent task switching; balance performance with temperature and fan noise. |
Best performance | Achieve maximum performance; suitable when connected to AC power; louder fan noise and higher temperature are acceptable. |
Note: Avoid prolonged contact (10+ seconds) with hot surfaces.
Balanced mode is the default for both AC and DC power.
Managing Power
Optimize performance and power efficiency using the information in this section.
Check Battery Status
Go to Settings → System to check battery status. Refer to the Vantage app for more details.
Charge the Computer
Use AC Power
- Power source: 45 W or 65 W AC adapter.
- Input rating: 100 V to 240 V ac, 50 Hz to 60 Hz.
- Output rating: 20 V dc, 2.25 A or 3.25 A.
The 65 W adapter supports rapid charge, providing up to 80% charge in about an hour when the computer is off. Actual charging time varies.
Recommended charging temperature: 10°C (50°F) to 35°C (95°F).
Note: Use only certified Lenovo adapters and power cords. Refer to www.lenovo.com/us/en/compliance/eu-doc.
Maximizing Battery Life:
- Discharge the battery fully before recharging.
- Once fully charged, it needs to discharge to 94% or lower before recharging again.
- Avoid keeping the battery at full charge during periods of non-use. Refer to Battery settings in Vantage app.
- Battery capacity may optimize based on usage. Full capacity might not be available after prolonged limited use until discharged to 20% and fully recharged.
P-to-P 2.0 (Peer to Peer 2.0) Charging
Both USB-C connectors support P-to-P 2.0 charging. Ensure Always On USB and Charge in Battery Mode are enabled in UEFI BIOS.
- Press F1 to enter UEFI BIOS.
- Click Config → USB and enable Always On USB and Charge in Battery Mode.
Note: Charging speed depends on remaining battery power, adapter wattage, and computer usage.
Change Power Settings
For ENERGY STAR® compliant computers, power plans adjust automatically based on idle duration.
- Windows 10: Display off/Sleep after 10 minutes.
- Windows 11: Display off/Sleep after 5 minutes.
To reset power plan: Go to Control Panel → Power Options and choose your preference.
To reset power button function: Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do, and adjust settings.
Enable Flip to Start
This feature allows the computer to start automatically when the lid is opened. It is disabled by default.
- Enable via Vantage app: Device → Power → Power settings, then toggle Flip to start.
- Enable via UEFI BIOS (if Vantage is uninstalled): Restart computer, press F1 at logo, go to Config → Power, and toggle Flip to start.
Transfer Data
Share files using built-in Bluetooth or NFC technology.
Connect to a Bluetooth Device
Connect Bluetooth-enabled devices like keyboards, mice, smartphones, or speakers. Keep devices within 10 meters (33 feet) for successful connection.
Set up an NFC Connection
If NFC is supported, an NFC mark will be visible around the trackpad area.
- To turn on NFC: Type Airplane mode in Windows search and press Enter. Ensure Airplane mode is off and turn on NFC.
Tap your computer and another NFC-enabled device to connect over a few centimeters or inches. Ensure NFC cards use NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) for detection.

Secure Your Computer and Information
Lock the Computer

Log in with Your Fingerprint
Enroll fingerprints via Sign-in options in Windows search.
- Type Sign-in options and press Enter.
- Select fingerprint settings and follow instructions to enroll.
Note: Enroll fingerprints at the center of the reader and enroll multiple fingerprints. Fingerprints are associated with your Windows password.
Log in using your fingerprint.
Associate Your Fingerprints with UEFI BIOS Passwords
Fingerprints can be associated with power-on and NVMe passwords. Refer to “Associate your fingerprints with passwords” on page 43.
Maintenance Tips for Fingerprint Reader:
- Do not scratch the reader surface.
- Do not use or touch the reader with wet, dirty, wrinkled, or injured fingers.
Log in with Face Recognition (for selected models)
For models with a webcam privacy shutter, slide it open before using Windows Hello face recognition.
- Set up Windows Hello Face via Sign-in options in Windows search.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
User Presence Sensing (for selected models)
This feature, supported by 4K cameras, enhances privacy, simplifies login, and improves energy management. Customize in the Vantage app.
- Note: Requires Windows Hello Face setup with the IR camera.
- Open Vantage app → Device → Smart Assist.
- Toggle User Presence Sensing.
- Customize sub-features like Zero Touch Login, Zero Touch Lock, and Adaptive Dimming.
Functions include:
- Face Sensing: Wakes the computer from sleep mode without touch when Windows Hello Face is set up.
