Operation

Power Bar

The Lithium-Ion battery pack features a POWER BAR to display remaining run time. Press the POWER BAR button to illuminate the LEDs for approximately 4 seconds. The POWER BAR can be used whether the battery is attached or removed from the tool.

Power Bar LED Indicators (Fig. 2):

Low Capacity Warning

NOTE: Four flashing LED lights may also indicate an overload or high temperature situation (see SmartChip™ Battery Protection).

SmartChip™ Battery Protection

SmartChip™ circuitry protects the battery pack from extreme temperatures, over-discharge, and over-charge. It turns off the battery pack if overloaded or if the temperature exceeds 176°F (80°C). Normal operation resumes when the temperature returns to the 32°F (0°C) - 104°F (40°C) range.

A momentary overload is indicated by four flashing POWER BAR LEDs. You can reset the battery pack by pressing the POWER BAR button.

NOTE: If the POWER BAR continues to flash four LED lights after reset, place the battery pack on the charger to evaluate its condition (Fig. 4). A significantly reduced run time after a full charge indicates the battery pack is near the end of its usable life and must be replaced.

Cold Weather Operation

Optimal performance is between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C). When very cold, the battery pack may "pulse" for the first minute to warm up. Use the tool in a light application to help it warm up.

When to Charge the Battery Pack

Lithium-Ion batteries can be charged at any time without developing a "memory." It is not necessary to fully discharge the battery before recharging. Use the POWER BAR to determine when to recharge. You can top off the charge before a big job or long period of use. Charge the battery pack as needed when power drops quickly.

How to Charge the Battery Pack

NOTE: The battery pack is shipped partially charged. Fully charge it before first use. A fully discharged battery pack at optimal temperature will charge in about 50 minutes. Charge only with the correct charger.

  1. Connect the charger to a power supply.
  2. Attach the battery pack to the charger by aligning the raised ribs with the slot and sliding it on (Fig. 3).
  3. The charger communicates with the battery pack's SmartChip™ circuitry to evaluate its condition.
  4. The POWER BAR LED lights will cycle from right to left during charging.
  5. After charging is complete, the green LED on the charger will illuminate, and the POWER BAR LEDs will turn off. The POWER BAR LEDs will not display when the button is pressed while the battery is on the charger.

The battery pack will fully charge but will not overcharge if left on the charger.

NOTE: The charger can operate with most generators and inverters rated at 300 watts or higher.

Charging a Cold Battery Pack

If the battery pack is below the normal temperature range, the red LED will be lit, and the green LED will be off. Charging begins automatically when the battery warms to above 32°F (0°C).

Defective Battery

If the charger detects a problem, the red LED will flash, and the green LED will be off.

  1. If defective, remove and reinsert the battery pack. If the LED status reads "defective" a second time, try charging a different battery pack.
  2. If a different battery pack charges normally, dispose of the defective battery pack (see Maintenance section).
  3. If a different battery pack also indicates "defective," the charger may be defective.

Battery Charging

If the battery pack is within the normal temperature range, the green LED will flash, and the red LED will be off. The battery pack will reach a full charge in 50 minutes. The POWER BAR LED lights will cycle during charging. They will not display when the POWER BAR button is pressed while the battery pack is on the charger.

Battery Full

If the battery pack is within the normal temperature range, the green LED will be lit, and the red LED will be off. The battery pack is fully charged and ready to use. It will not overcharge if left on the charger.

NOTE: The charger may warm up with continuous charge cycles; this is normal. Always charge in a well-ventilated area.

CAUTION: When placing the battery pack in the tool, ensure the raised rib aligns with the bottom of the saw and latches properly. Improper installation can damage internal components.

WARNING: Do not attempt to modify this saw or create accessories not recommended for use with it. Such alterations are misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to serious injury.

To Attach Battery Pack (Fig. 5)

  1. Align the raised portion on the battery pack with the grooves on the rear of the saw, then attach the pack to the tool.
  2. Ensure the latch on the battery pack snaps into place and is secured before beginning operation.

To Detach Battery Pack

  1. Press the latch on the front of the battery pack to release it.
  2. Pull the battery pack forward to remove it from the saw.

⚠️ WARNING: Battery tools are always in operating condition. Therefore, the trigger switch should always be locked when not in use or when carrying the tool.

Trigger Switch (Fig. 6)

  1. To turn ON: Push the lock-off button to the left, then depress the trigger switch.
  2. To turn OFF: Release the trigger switch and push the lock-off button to the right to lock the trigger switch.

NOTE: The lock-off button can only be activated when the trigger is released.

Variable Speed (Fig. 6)

The variable speed trigger switch delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure.

Electric Brake

To stop the saw, release the trigger switch. The electric brake quickly stops the saw from stroking, engaging automatically when the trigger is released.

LED Work Light (Fig. 7)

The LED work light on the front of the saw illuminates when the trigger switch is depressed and turns off when released. It provides additional lighting on the work piece surface for low-light areas.

Installing Saw Blade (Fig. 8)

  2. Insert the saw blade into the blade clamp as far as possible; it will lock in position automatically.

Removing Saw Blade (Fig. 9)

  1. Remove battery pack.
  2. Turn down the blade clamp lever.
  3. Remove the saw blade from the blade clamp.

Blade Selection

Select the correct blade for the application and material type for best performance, a smoother cut, and prolonged blade life.

Base (Shoe) Assembly

To Slide Shoe In or Out (Fig. 10)

The base assembly slides to adjust the effective stroke length for maximum control and longer blade life. It can be locked in any of 4 positions.

  1. Remove the battery pack.
  2. Press the shoe's release button and slide the shoe out to the desired position.
  3. Release the shoe's release button to lock the shoe in place.

To Pivot Shoe (Fig. 11)

The shoe pivots to provide maximum control against the surface being cut.

  1. Remove the battery pack.
  2. Hold the saw securely, then pivot the shoe to the desired position.

Orbital Adjustment Knob

This saw has an orbital control with three positions:

To increase orbital action, turn the knob to a higher setting. To decrease, turn to a lower setting.

General Cutting

  1. Firmly hold the saw in front of you and away from you.
  2. Ensure the saw blade is clear of any foreign material.
  3. Make sure the material to be cut is securely supported. Small workpieces must be clamped in a vise or with clamps to a workbench or table.
  4. Clearly mark the line of cut.
  5. Push the lock-off button to the left, then depress the trigger switch to start cutting.
  6. Place the base assembly (shoe) against the work, then move the blade into the work.
  7. Do not force the saw. Use only enough pressure to keep it cutting. Excessive pressure that causes bending or twisting of the blade may result in broken blades.

Plunge Cutting

  1. Clearly mark the line of cut.
  2. Choose a convenient starting point inside the area to be cut out, and place the tip of the blade above that point.
  3. Rest the front edge of the base assembly (shoe) on the workpiece and hold it firmly.
  4. Push the lock-off button to the left, then depress the trigger switch to start cutting.
  5. With the saw blade at full cutting speed, slowly tilt the saw downward until the tip of the blade starts cutting the workpiece.
  6. After the blade penetrates the workpiece, tilt the saw until the blade is perpendicular to the workpiece.

Metal Cutting

Metals like sheet steel, pipe, steel rods, aluminum, brass, and copper can be cut. Be careful not to twist or bend the blade. Do not force. Use of cutting oil is recommended for soft metals and steel to keep the blade cool, increase cutting action, and prolong blade life. Never use gasoline, as sparking could ignite fumes.

Securely clamp the workpiece, and make the cut close to the clamping point to minimize vibration. When cutting conduit pipe or angle iron, clamp the work in a vise if possible and cut close to the vise. For thin sheet material, "sandwich" it between hardboard or plywood and clamp the layers to eliminate vibration and tearing.

Maintenance

General Maintenance

Batteries

The battery pack uses Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries. Duration of use depends on the work performed. Batteries are designed for maximum trouble-free life but will eventually wear out. Do not disassemble or attempt to replace batteries. Handling batteries, especially with rings or jewelry, could cause serious burns.

To obtain the longest possible battery life:

Battery Pack Removal and Preparation for Recycling

To preserve natural resources, recycle or dispose of batteries properly. This product contains lithium-ion batteries. Local laws may prohibit disposal in ordinary trash. Consult your local waste authority for recycling information.

⚠️ WARNING: Upon removal, cover the battery pack's terminals with heavy-duty adhesive tape. Do not attempt to destroy or disassemble the battery pack or remove its components. Lithium-Ion batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Never touch terminals with metal objects or body parts, as this may cause a short circuit. Keep away from children.
