Battery Use and Care
Battery Protection
The battery circuitry protects the pack from extreme temperature, over-discharge, and over-charge. If overloaded or overheated, the circuitry will turn off the pack to protect it and prolong its life. This may happen in high torque, binding, or stalling situations. The system shuts down the pack if its operating temperature exceeds 176°F (80°C) and resumes normal operation when it returns to 32°F (0°C) - 104°F (40°C).
The LED worklight will flash slowly if the battery circuitry detects a momentary overload.
NOTE: A significantly reduced run time after fully charging indicates the battery is near the end of its usable life and must be replaced.
Cold Weather Operation
The Lithium-Ion battery pack provides optimal performance in temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C). When very cold, the battery may "pulse" for the first minute of use to warm itself. Install the battery pack in the tool and use it in a light application; after about a minute, it will have warmed and operate normally.
When to Charge the Battery Pack
It is not necessary to run down the battery pack charge before recharging. Lithium-Ion batteries can be charged anytime and will not develop a "memory" from partial discharge.
"Top off" the battery pack charge by charging it for a time before starting a big job or long period of use.
Due to Lithium-Ion fade-free properties, charging is only necessary when the pack has reached the end of its charge.
Charge the battery pack as needed.
How to Charge the Battery Pack (Fig. 2)
NOTE: The Lithium-Ion battery pack is shipped partially charged. Fully charge it before first use.
A fully discharged battery pack will charge in about 30 minutes in a surrounding temperature between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).
- Charge the Lithium-Ion battery pack with the correct charger.
- Connect the charger to a power supply.
- Align the raised ribs of the battery pack with the slot in the charger.
- Insert the battery pack into the charger.
- The charger will communicate with the battery pack to evaluate its condition.
- Green lights will flash while charging. After charging is complete, the green LED on the charger will be on. A flickering red light indicates a defective battery or bad connection.
- The battery pack will fully charge if left on the charger but will not overcharge.
NOTE: The charger can operate with most generators and inverters rated at 300 watts or higher.
LED Functions of Charger (Fig. 3)

- If registering as defective, remove and reinsert the battery pack. If it reads "defective" a second time, try charging a different battery pack.
- If a different battery pack charges normally, dispose of the defective battery pack (see Maintenance section).
- If a different battery pack also indicates "defective," the charger may be defective.
Battery Charging
If the battery pack is charging within the normal temperature range (32°F to 104°F), the green LED will flash and the red LED will be off. The battery pack will reach a full charge in about 30 minutes.
Battery Full
If the battery pack is within the normal temperature range, the green LED will illuminate and the red LED will be off. The battery pack is fully charged and ready to use. It will fully charge but not overcharge if left on the charger.
NOTE: The charger may become warm with several continuous charge cycles. This is normal. Charge in a well-ventilated area.

To turn the tool ON, depress the trigger switch. To turn it OFF, release the trigger switch.
Variable Speed (Fig. 5)
The variable-speed trigger switch delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure.
Direction-of-Rotation Selector (Forward/Center Lock/Reverse) (Fig. 5)
The direction of bit rotation is reversible and controlled by a selector above the trigger switch.
- Position the selector to the left for forward rotation.
- Position the selector to the right for reverse rotation.
- Setting the switch in the OFF (center lock) position helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use.
⚠️ CAUTION: To prevent gear damage, always allow the tool to come to a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation.
NOTE: The tool will not run unless the direction-of-rotation selector is engaged fully to the left or right.
Electric Brake
To stop the tool, release the trigger switch and allow the tool to come to a complete stop. The electric brake quickly stops rotation and engages automatically when the trigger is released.
LED Worklight (Fig. 7)
The LED worklight, located on the front of the tool, illuminates when the trigger switch is depressed. It provides additional light on the workpiece surface for operation in lower-light areas. The LED worklight turns off when the trigger switch is released.
