LEDColor and Status
TESTWhen powered on, the soft starter enters self-test mode, checking R/C/S wire communication. The TEST indicator flashes red once, followed by the RUN indicator flashing red and then green.
Note: If R/C/S communication fails, the RUN indicator stays red, signaling a fault.

Installation Instructions

  1. This product should be installed by a qualified technician.
  2. Before installation turn off the HVAC system and ensure all electrical connections are off.
  3. Verify from the manufacturer's wiring if there are any start-assist devices such as start capacitors, start relays, or PTCRs that may be present. If present, these need to be removed. Follow the Start winding connection from the compressor into the control box. This should terminate onto a run capacitor (HERM terminal, in case of a dual capacitor). If the same terminal has other wires terminated, these must be disconnected and electrically isolated.
  4. Acquire the manufacturer's wiring diagram for the RV air-conditioning unit.
  5. Open the top hood of the RV air-conditioning unit. If necessary, gain access to the compressor's wiring by removing any additional foam covers. [Illustration showing access to the RV air conditioner's compressor wiring.]
  6. Identify the three wires (Run, Start, and Common) routed to the compressor. Most often, these are routed through a sleeve cover. [Diagram illustrating the three wires (Run, Start, Common) routed to the compressor, often through a sleeve cover.]
  7. Identify a suitable location to place the soft starter. Use the 3M foam tape or mounting screws to attach it. Please avoid placing the soft starter and its wiring in the following areas:
    • In the direct path of an air vent.
    • In proximity (less than 2 inches) to copper pipes (inlet or discharge).
    • Near rotating mechanical parts.
    • Near heat sources.
    • A place that interferes with closing the top hood.
[Illustration showing the soft starter being mounted using foam tape or screws, with a warning about placement near vents, pipes, moving parts, heat sources, or obstructions.]
  8. Cut the compressor's three wires at a location within range of the soft starter's wire harnesses. Clearly identify the supply and compressor sides of the connections. [Illustration showing the compressor's three wires being cut within range of the soft starter's wire harnesses, emphasizing identification of supply and compressor sides.]
[Wiring schematic illustrating the connections between the control box, soft starter (Supply Side: C, R, S; Compressor Side: C-OUT, R-OUT, S-OUT), and the compressor (C, R, S).]
  9. Clearly identify the supply and compressor sides of the connections.
    • On the supply side, carefully match the run, start, and common wires of the A/C unit with the run, start, and common wires on the SUPPLY side of the soft starter. Strip each wire by 1/2" and terminate all 3 connections using closed-end splice connectors. See diagram below.
    • On the compressor side, carefully match the run, start, and common wires coming from the compressor with the run, start, and common wires on the COMPRESSOR side of the soft starter. Strip each wire by 1/2” and terminate all 3 connections using closed-end splice connectors.
    • Ensure that all 6 crimp connections are firm and secure.
[Illustration showing the wiring connections on the supply and compressor sides of the soft starter, highlighting the use of closed-end splice connectors.]
  10. Clean the chosen mounting surface for the soft starter. Then use the zip ties to ensure that the wire harness on both sides is securely routed inside the unit. [Illustration showing the soft starter mounted and zip ties used to secure the wire harness.]
  11. Securely replace any foam covers and the top hood. Turn on the power and verify the operation.

Troubleshooting
