Safety Instructions
General Safety Instructions for Power Tools (EN 60745-1:2009+A11:2010)
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to comply with the warnings and instructions can result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Keep all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your battery-powered (cordless) power tool.
Safety at the Work Area
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not use the device if lighting and visibility conditions are poor.
- Do not use power tools in explosive atmospheres, e.g., in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools generate sparks, which can ignite dust or vapors.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away while operating the power tool. Improper use can lead to loss of control over the device.
Electrical Safety
- Avoid contact with conductive surfaces. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.
- Do not expose the power tool to rain or moisture. If water enters a power tool, the risk of electric shock increases.
Personal Safety
- Stay alert and be very careful when operating the power tool. Do not use a power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Improper operation of power tools can lead to serious injury.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear safety glasses, other protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip safety shoes, helmet, or hearing protection to reduce the risk of injury.
- Prevent unintentional starting of the device. Ensure the switch is off before connecting the tool to the battery, picking it up, or carrying it. Carrying power tools with a finger on the switch can lead to accidents.
- Remove all socket wrenches before switching on the power tool. If a socket wrench remains stuck in a rotating element such as the saw blade, it can cause injury.
- Do not overreach. Ensure you are standing firmly on the ground and maintaining your balance. This allows for better control when guiding the power tool.
- Wear appropriate clothing. Do not wear loose clothing. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts such as wheels. Loose clothing or long hair can get caught in moving parts.
- Be attentive when operating the power tool and do not become overconfident. Careless handling can lead to serious injury.
Operation and Maintenance of Power Tools
- Do not operate the power tool with force, but only as prescribed.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch cannot be turned on and off. Any damaged power tool with a defective switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Remove the battery from the power tool before assembling the device, changing accessories, or storing power tools. These precautionary measures reduce the risk of unintentional startup of the power tool.
- Store unused power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons with lack of experience and knowledge to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools. Check if moving parts are misaligned or jammed, if parts are broken, and if there are other conditions that could affect the operation of the power tool. Have the power tool repaired before use if damaged. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Ensure that the cutting tool is always sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges jam less often and are easier to control.
- Use the power tool and accessories according to this manual and pay attention to the working conditions and proper use of the device. Improper use of the device can lead to risk of injury and damage.
- Keep handles and grip surfaces dry, clean, and free of oil and grease. Slippery handles and grip surfaces endanger safe handling and control of the tool.
Use and Care of Battery Tools
- Only charge with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger suitable for one type of battery can pose a fire hazard when used with another type of battery.
- Only use power tools with the specially designed battery packs. Using other batteries can lead to injury and fire hazards.
- When the battery is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects such as paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can bridge from one terminal to another. Short-circuiting the battery terminals can cause burns or fire.
- Liquid can leak from a damaged battery. Avoid contact of battery acid with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse the affected areas immediately with plenty of clear water and seek medical attention if necessary.
Service
Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repairer using only identical replacement parts. This ensures that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
Safety Warnings (IEC 60745-2-13:2006+A1:2009)
- When operating the various blades, keep the device at a distance from your body. Before starting the blades, ensure you have sufficient clearance from clothing and body parts. Improper use of the blades can lead to an increased risk of injury.
- Always hold the device with your right hand on the main handle and your left hand on the handle. Please hold the device only as described above. Incorrect posture increases the risk of injury and should be avoided.
- Only touch the power tool on the insulated grip surfaces, as the device may contact hidden cables. Devices that touch a conductive cable can energize exposed metal parts of the power tool and cause an electric shock to the operator.
- Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Additional protective equipment for head, hands, legs, and feet is recommended. Appropriate protective clothing reduces injuries from thrown parts or accidental contact with the blades.
- Do not use the saw blade while on a tree. Operating the saw blade on a tree can lead to injury. Always ensure a secure footing and operate the device only when you are standing on a firm, secure, and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces, such as ladders, can lead to loss of balance or control over the blades.
- When cutting a tensioned branch, be aware of the spring-back effect. When the tension in the wood fibers is released, the sprung piece of wood can hit the user and/or cause the saw blade to go out of control.
- Be extremely careful when cutting brush and grass. Thin material can get caught in the blades and be thrown back at you or unbalance you.
- Carry the device only by the front handle and at a safe distance from your body. Ensure the device is switched off. Proper handling of the device reduces the likelihood of accidental contact with the blades.
- Follow the instructions for lubricating, tensioning, and changing accessories. Insufficiently tensioned or lubricated accessories can break or increase the risk of kickback.
- Keep handles dry, clean, and free of oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery and can lead to loss of control.
- Do not use the device for purposes other than intended. For example: Do not use the device for cutting plastic, masonry, or other building materials, but only for cutting wood, thinner branches, brush, and grass. Using the device for work other than intended can lead to a dangerous situation.
- This device in operation as a saw is not intended for felling trees. Using the device as a saw for work other than intended can lead to serious injury to the operator or bystanders.
Causes and Prevention of Kickback by the User
Kickback can be caused by the following: The saw blade hits a hard object and is quickly braked. The saw blade is jammed.
If kickback occurs, the saw blade can be thrown upwards in the direction of the user. The user can lose control of the device and be seriously injured. Do not rely solely on the safety devices built into your saw. As a user of the device, you should take several measures to protect yourself from accidents and injuries. Kickback is the result of improper use of the tool and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by the following precautions:
- Position yourself so that you can control the kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by the user when appropriate precautions are taken. Hold the device firmly with both hands.
- Keep your body away from the device's swing range. This helps to avoid accidental contact with the blade and allows for better control of the device.
- Only use saw blades specified by the manufacturer as replacements. Incorrect saw blades can cause property damage and/or kickback.
