Chapter Three: L157 Advanced Operation Guide

1) Record Setting

1.1 Recording Quality

You can select the recording quality from the following options: 1536kbps (WAV format), 128kbps (MP3 Format), or 64kbps (MP3 format).

1.2 Record Led

ON: The default setting, where the LED indicator light is on during recording. OFF: Turns off the LED indicator light.

1.3 Subsection Recording

This feature allows the recorder to automatically save the recording file at a selected time length and start a new recording. Options include:

  • Half Hour: Records each file at 30-minute intervals.
  • One Hour: Records each file at 1-hour intervals.
  • Two Hour: Records each file at 2-hour intervals.
  • CLOSE: Turns off the subsection recording function.

For example, selecting "Half Hour" will save a recording every 30 minutes and start a new one. To disable this, select CLOSE and confirm in the menu.

1.4 Voice Activated Recording (AVR)

What is Voice Activated Recording? When AVR mode is ON, the screen displays "VOX", indicating the device has entered voice-activated recording mode. The device records only when voice or sound is detected, reducing blank time and saving storage space. Press STOP to save recordings when using AVR mode.

AVR Mode:

  • ON: Activates voice-activated recording.
  • OFF: Deactivates voice-activated recording.

Voice Activated Sensitive Level: Levels 1 through 5 determine sensitivity. Level 1 requires a loud sound (above 70db), while Level 5 is highly sensitive and records even quiet sounds or ambient noise. Note: Avoid using this function for important lectures or meetings as it may miss low-decibel speech. Use regular record/stop for such events.

Level one is the least sensitive, requiring a louder voice to activate recording. Level five is the most sensitive, capturing soft speech and potentially continuous recording without pause status.

NOTICE: When AVR is ON, the screen shows "VOX". If no voice is detected, the recording time will not count, indicating a pause. Recording resumes automatically when voice is detected again. Select the MIC sensitive level according to your needs.

1.5 Record Monitor

ON: Use earphones to monitor the recording in real-time. OFF: Disables this function.

1.6 Exit

Exits the current record setting and returns to the previous menu level.

2) System Setting

2.1 Sleeper Timer

This setting forces the device to automatically switch off after a set period. Options include: OFF, 10, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes.

2.2 Backlight Timer

Controls how long the screen stays lit without operation. Options: 20 seconds, 30 seconds, Always on. Notice: Selecting "Always on" is not recommended as it drains the battery quickly.

2.3 Brightness

Adjusts screen brightness from dark to bright. Options range from 00 to 15. Higher numbers mean a brighter screen. Press M (menu) to confirm changes.

2.4 Date and time

Set the system time and date. Use UP/DOWN to adjust hour, minute, year, month, day. Use VOL+/VOL- to move to the next field. Remember to press M (menu) to confirm.

2.5 Language

Change the device's display language.

2.6 Information

  • Player Information: Displays the device firmware version and system firmware release date.
  • Disk Space: Shows the free and total built-in memory space.

2.7 Format Device

Formatting erases all data on the device permanently. Notice: Back up data before formatting. Do not cut off power during formatting, as this can cause disk errors. Wait for completion and reboot before switching off the device. If a "DISK ERROR" occurs after power loss, connect to a Windows computer, format the disk, and the device should return to normal. (For MAC users, contact customer support for assistance).

2.8 Factory settings

Restores the device to its factory default settings. If you encounter confusion with settings, this function is helpful. Enter 'Factory Settings' via the menu, select 'Yes', and confirm with M. The screen will show "Restored!" upon completion.

3) Play Setting

3.1 Play Mode

Repeat:

  • Repeat off: Plays recordings in normal sequence from first to last.
  • Repeat One: Repeats the currently selected track continuously.
  • Repeat All: Repeats all recordings from A to Z.

Shuffle: When enabled, playback will be in random order, and UP/DOWN buttons will not select next or previous tracks.

3.2 Sound Setting

Adjust sound settings, including equalizer options like Rock, Pop, Soft, Jazz, Classical, and Techno. Select and confirm changes for them to take effect.

4) Folder View

Displays the number of folders on the recorder's disk and the types of files contained within them.

Chapter Four: Failed Connect to Computer

Experiencing connection issues with your computer is similar to problems with flash drives. Here are suggestions to fix this:

  • Before connecting, switch OFF the voice recorder.
  • When connecting, do not press any buttons on the recorder to avoid exiting connection mode.
  • Avoid moving the Micro USB cable while connected to prevent unstable connections.
  • If connection fails, try a different Micro USB cable (like a phone cable), a different USB port, or reboot your computer.
  • For persistent issues, advanced debugging may be required, involving checking Computer Management and Device Manager.

If connection problems persist, please contact support-us@evistr.com for assistance.

Chapter Five: Troubleshooting

1) No Voice Recordings

If no recordings are found or all have been deleted, the screen may display "no voice recordings" or "no songs". You can proceed to press REC to start a new recording.

2) How to Close Record Light

Navigate to Record Setting > Record led > select CLOSE (OFF) to prevent the record light from illuminating or flashing during recording.

3) Format Error

Format errors can occur due to:

  • Forcibly turning off the POWER BUTTON during recording, which can damage files. Always press STOP first to save recordings.
  • Recordings shorter than 5 seconds (e.g., zero-second files).
  • Computer incompatibility with .wav files (common with Windows 10 or MAC users). Consider downloading free media players like MplayerX (mplayerx.org) or VLC Media Player (videolan.org/vlc).
  • Recording in MP3 format may offer better compatibility.

4) Disk Error

Disk errors can result from static shock, over-current charging, or power loss during formatting, leading to system firmware loss. Rescue: Keep the power button OFF, connect to a Windows computer, and format the recorder disk again. For MAC users, contact customer support.

5) How to connect to computer

Use the provided USB cable or a compatible Android phone cable to connect to your computer. If connection fails, contact support-us@evistr.com for assistance.

6) Can I delete recordings from computer

Yes. When connected, the recorder appears as a removable drive named "L157". Recordings are stored in the "RECORD" folder. You can delete or copy files just like with any USB flash drive.

7) When Connect to computer, the buttons not work

When connected, the device enters connection mode, indicated by a "CONNECTION ICON" on the screen. If you press and hold the M button, it will exit connection mode, preventing computer connection. All buttons will be unresponsive in this state.

8) Cannot find my recordings in the recorder

This issue may occur if the device is accessing the MUSIC folder. Press and hold STOP to switch back to the RECORD folder. Alternatively, connect to a computer to verify the presence of recordings.

9) How to Turn ON Voice Activated Function

Navigate to Menu Options > Record setting > Voice Activated Setting > AVR mode > ON. Press M to confirm. The screen will display "VOX" when the function is active.

10) How to Use the AVR Mode (Voice Activated Function)

When AVR mode is ON, the recorder uses voice activation. It records only loud enough sounds. Sensitivity can be adjusted from Level 1 (requires louder voice) to Level 5 (highly sensitive). When AVR is ON and REC is pressed, the device records for 3 seconds to confirm mode entry, then records only detected voice/sound.

11) Press REC, it not recording

Check the following:

  • Is the recording light blinking?
  • Does the screen show "VOX"? If so, consider disabling AVR mode if not needed.
  • Is there sufficient free space on the device?

12) Press REC, it shows "OVER RECORD"

This indicates the memory is full or there are too many folders/recordings. This can happen from frequent recording/saving or creating many folders. Files unreadable by the recorder may also contribute. Format the voice recorder or connect it to a computer to check and format the disk.

13) Why it is only playing 10 seconds

This occurs when the "view playing" playback mode is active, which plays only 10 seconds of each file. At the playback status, press M (menu), find 'Repeat', and select 'Repeat All' or another mode, then confirm with M.

14) Why it playback in random

To resolve random playback, go to Play Setting and disable the shuffle function.

15) How to use the A-B repeat function

During playback, press and hold M. 'A' will appear on the screen, indicating the start point. Press and hold M again to select point 'B' (the end point). The device will then play back the section between A and B.

16) The recording is noise

Avoid recording near sources of noise like computers, electric fans, air conditioners, or sound bars, as the recorder may pick up static noise.

17) The recorder auto shut down when I am recording

This is caused by the "sleeper time" function being enabled. To disable it, go to System Setting > Sleeper time, select OFF, and confirm. The default setting is usually zero.

18) I Cannot Shut Off My Voice Recorder

When the recorder is charging or connected to a computer, the POWER BUTTON may not shut it off as it receives power directly from the source.

19) How to format the recorder

Navigate to Menu > System Setting > Format Device > Format Disk. Select 'Yes' and press M to confirm and start formatting. All files will be deleted, restoring the full storage capacity (e.g., 8GB). Do not shut off the device during formatting.

20) Space is full

When storage is full, connect the recorder to your computer, back up files, and then delete recordings from the recorder. Note: Directly deleting files from the recorder to the computer may not free up space successfully. The recorder has limited storage (8GB/16GB), so regular backups are necessary.
