Non-thermostatic radiator valves
A non-thermostatic or manual valve is a simple on/off valve that works like a tap. It regulates hot water flow to the radiator and changes the room's temperature only when it is manually turned on or off.
If you unmount the valve head of a manual valve, you'll find that there is no pin that can be pushed in and out.
Unfortunately, tado° Smart Radiator Thermostats are not compatible with non-thermostatic radiator valves.
To be able to use tado° on your radiator, consider getting your valve replaced with an M30x1.5 mm thermostatic radiator valve.

Thermostatic radiator valves
A thermostatic radiator valve senses the room temperature and automatically adjusts the hot water flow to the radiator to maintain a constant temperature in the room.
The tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat only works with thermostatic radiator valves and it replaces your existing thermostatic valve head.
Please note: tado° is not compatible with return temperature limiter valves (RTL valves), which are mostly used for underfloor heating. This is because tado°, in combination with an RTL valve, will not be able to limit the hot water temperature for underfloor heating. Further, tado° is not compatible with one pipe systems since it would stop the water flow if the Smart Thermostat is closed.

If your valve is not on this list or if none of the given adapters fit your valve, consider getting your valve replaced with an M30 x 1.5 mm thermostatic radiator valve.

Please note: While tado° works with a great range of thermostatic radiator valves, there may be a few that tado° currently does not support.
