What Is Hardwire Kit?
The ROVE Ultimate 3-Lead Hardwire Kit is a power management device that provides power to your dashcam from your car's battery via fuse box. This ensures your dashcam continuously runs, even after your engine is turned off, to utilize the 24HR Parking Monitor feature.
Features
Low Voltage Protection
The ROVE Ultimate 3-Lead Hardwire Kit monitors your voltage status and cuts off power to the dashcam if the voltage drops below a configured value. The minimum voltage cut-off is 11.8VDC for a 12VDC battery and 23.6VDC for a 24VDC battery. This protects the vehicle's battery and reserves enough power to start your car. You have four different configuration choices for when the power should be disconnected.
| For 12V Battery: | 12.4V | 12.2V | 12.0V | 11.8V |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| For 24V Battery: | 24.8V | 24.4V | 24.0V | 23.6V |

Battery Drain Protection
The Hardwire Kit protects your dashcam from draining your vehicle's battery. If battery voltage gets too low, the ROVE Hardwire Kit stops powering your camera to save enough power, allowing you to start your car. Once you start driving and the battery charges, the voltage will rise above the set cut-off protection, and the hardwire kit will resume normal function until the voltage drops again.
Setting The Cut Off Voltage
Ensure you test and identify the minimum necessary battery voltage required to start your car before setting it to the lowest setting. The hardwire kit has 4 protecting bands that you can switch according to your requirement. We recommend starting with the highest setting, then testing and moving down each step to find a balance between battery power and recording time.
- a) For 12V Batteries: The protecting voltages are 11.8V / 12.0V / 12.2V / 12.4V. 12.2V is recommended for most users in general driving conditions.
- b) For 24V Batteries: The protecting voltages are 23.6V / 24.0V / 24.4V / 24.8V. 24.4V is recommended for most users in general driving conditions.
The ROVE Ultimate 3-Lead Hardwire Kit automatically identifies the lead-acid battery type (12V or 24V) and protects your battery accordingly.
Installation
There are 2 main stages in the hardwire kit installation:
- Connecting input cables to your fuse box and grounding.
- Connecting the output cable to your dashcam.
Wiring Connections:
- Red Wire: Constant Power
- YELLOW Wire: ACC Power
- BLACK Wire: Attach to the Grounding
What You'll Need For Installation:
- Hardwiring Kit and Accessories
- Pliers
- Socket Wrench
- Electrical Tape
- Car Manual
1. Locate Your Fuse Box
Locate your fuse box using your vehicle's Fuse Box Diagram, typically found in your Owner's User Manual or on the manufacturer's website.
[Image of a car's interior, indicating the fuse box is located behind a panel (example shown: Honda Civic).]
NOTE: Refer to your vehicle owner's manual to determine the fuse box location and how to access it. The example shows a top panel removed for access. You may need to remove trim or open panels. Accessing the fuse box might involve lifting a tab, pulling a panel, or using a trim tool.
See the installation video for more details.
2. Find The Correct Fuse Slot For Your Hardwire Kit
You need to identify two fuse slots:
- A fuse slot that provides constant power (for the RED wire).
- A fuse slot that provides power only when the key is turned to the ACC position (for the YELLOW wire).
Make a note of these slots for later steps.
IMPORTANT: We recommend choosing fuse slots rated between 10A - 30A to provide sufficient power to the dash cam. Do not use 5A or 7.5A fuses.
WARNING: Always refer to your vehicle owner's manual to avoid fuse slots related to important safety features like airbags or stability control programs. Fuses for elements like the radio, garage door opener, or sunroof are generally safe to use.
[Image of a car's fuse box, highlighting different fuse slots and their ratings.]
Wire Connections
For the ROVE Ultimate 3-lead hardwiring kit, there are 3 wires to connect:
- RED Wire: Attaches to the Constant Power Fuse Slot (Always Hot - provides power even when the car key is locked and turned off).
- YELLOW Wire: Attaches to the ACC Power [Ignition-Switched Fuse] - provides power only when you turn your car's key from LOCK to ACC position.
- BLACK Wire: Attaches to a Metal Grounding Screw/Bolt. [Grounding completes the circuit and prevents sparking or electrical shock]. See step 5 for details.
TIP: Use the included voltage meter or an equivalent to test which fuse is constant and which is ACC/ignition-switched.
[Image of the included 30V Voltage Meter, showing its probe and alligator clip, with an arrow pointing to 'Connect this to Negative (Means Metal Grounding Screw or Chassis)'.]
3. Identify The Correct Type of Fuse For Your Car
Once you have identified the fuse slots, determine the type of Add-A-Fuse / Piggy-Back Fuse Tap to use for your car model. There are mainly four types of fuses used for American cars.
To identify the fuse type:
- Remove a fuse from your car's fuse box and match it with the pictures below. Ensure you reinsert it in the correct slot.
- Alternatively, refer to your car's owner's manual to find the specific fuse type required.
Add-A-Fuse or Piggy Back Fuse Tap Types
- ATO (Standard) Fuse Cable with ATO (Regular) Fuse
- Mini Fuse Cable with Mini Fuse
- Micro2 Fuse Cable with Micro2 Fuse
- Micro Fuse Cable with Micro Fuse
4. Insert Red, Yellow & Black Cables
Connect the RED and Yellow Wires securely to the piggyback fuse-taps using a crimp tool or pliers.
[Image showing a close-up of a red wire being connected to an Add-A-Fuse/Piggyback Fuse Tap.]
[Image showing a crimping tool securing a fuse tap connection with wires.]
REMINDER: If the fuse slot has an existing fuse, insert that fuse into the lower slot of the Add-A-Fuse with the correct orientation. If the slot is empty, you can install the fuse tap directly without needing a second fuse.
[Image showing a close-up of a fuse tap with a fuse inserted, indicating correct orientation.]
Now, simply insert the piggyback fuse tap into the previously identified fuse slots.
[Diagram showing the ROVE Ultimate 3-Lead Hardwire Kit wiring: RED wire for Constant Power, BLACK wire for Ground, YELLOW wire for ACC.]
5. Locating a Ground Point
Connect the BLACK Wire to a Grounding Screw or Bolt.
[Image of a car's fuse box area, illustrating a 'Bad Grounding Choice' (screw on plastic) and a 'GOOD GROUNDING CHOICE' (screw on metal chassis).]
NOTE: We recommend choosing a metal Chassis Grounding Screw. Improper grounding may cause your dash cam to not function properly or to restart/reboot.
6. Tucking Up and Routing The Cables Neatly
Now, test the dash cam. After connecting all three wires (Red, Yellow, and Black) to their proper positions, plug the Mini-USB cable into the camera and start your vehicle to test the dash cam and parking mode. Ensure the parking mode feature is turned ON in your dash cam's settings.
If the test is successful, you can now neatly route and tuck all wires in your car. We recommend using tape or zip ties to secure excess wires out of the way, ensuring they do not block access to your fuse box.
Make sure wires are not loose or hanging, as they could be kicked when entering or exiting the car, potentially causing damage to the hardwire kit or vehicle, or creating unsafe driving conditions.
See the illustrations below on how to hide the cables:
[Illustration a: Foot near car pedal.]
[Illustration b: Cable being routed along a car pillar.]
[Illustration c: Cable being tucked under trim.]
[Illustration d: Cable secured neatly.]
WARNING: If your vehicle has side curtain airbags, be very careful when running any cables along your vehicle windows. Ensure no cables are run past any airbags, as this could prevent the airbags from deploying.
