Before You Begin
- Verify that the area where you plan to plug in the extender has a solid Wi-Fi connection to your router. Test this using a wireless laptop, tablet, or mobile phone.
- If your wireless router does not support WPS, follow the alternative setup steps (refer to the full manual or other side of the QIG) to connect and run the Setup Wizard. Consult your router's user manual if unsure about enabling WPS.
Recommended Placement
A range extender's performance depends on the signal it extends. Proper placement is crucial for optimal results.
Ideal Placement: Position the DAP-1320 halfway between your wireless router and the area with poor Wi-Fi coverage (dead zone), ensuring it still receives a strong signal from the router.
Poor Placement: Placing the extender too far from the router or too close to the dead zone will result in reduced performance.
Connect to Your Router Using WPS
- Find an available power outlet near your wireless router. Plug in the DAP-1320 and wait for the LED to blink amber.
- Press the WPS button on your wireless router.
- Within one minute, press the WPS button on the DAP-1320. The LED will start to blink.
- Wait for the LED to turn solid green, indicating a successful connection to your wireless router. If the LED is solid amber, the DAP-1320 is too far from the router; try moving it closer.
- You can now unplug the DAP-1320 and move it to a location between your router and the area needing extended wireless coverage.
Connect Your Wireless Devices
From your wireless device (laptop, smartphone, etc.), open its wireless utility to view available networks.
Select the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) for the DAP-1320. When connected via WPS, the SSID will typically be your router's SSID followed by "-EXT" (e.g., "YourRouterSSID-EXT").
Use the same Wi-Fi password as your main wireless router.
To connect additional devices, repeat this step.
Your setup is complete! Your device can now connect to your wireless router through the DAP-1320.
Configure the DAP-1320 Using a Web Browser
You can access the DAP-1320's web-based configuration utility to perform tasks such as running the setup wizard, upgrading firmware, or changing wireless and network settings.
- Plug the DAP-1320 into an available outlet near your router. You can move it to a more suitable location after configuration.
- On your wireless device or computer, open its wireless utility. Select the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) from the Wi-Fi Configuration Card and enter the password.
- Open a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) and enter the web browser link provided on the Wi-Fi Configuration Card (typically
http://dlinkap.local./
orhttp://dlinkap
for Windows XP). - The login page will appear. Enter the administrator password (by default, it is blank). If this is the first login, you will be directed to the setup wizard.
- The home page displays the current status. A green checkmark (✔️) indicates a successful connection to your wireless router or Access Point (AP). A red checkmark means you may need to connect to the router by clicking the "Uplink Router" icon.
Use the "Settings" tab to edit wireless and network settings. Use the "Management" tab to change the login password, update firmware, or view statistics.

Troubleshooting
Why can't I connect to my wireless router or my wireless connection drops?
- Check Range: Ensure the DAP-1320 is within range of your wireless router. Try moving it closer and verify the LED is solid green.
- Router Security Settings: If the connection drops, log into your router and set the wireless security to "WPA2 only" (avoid "auto detect").
- Router Channel: Try setting your wireless router to a specific channel (e.g., 1, 6, or 11) instead of "auto".
- Performance Note: Devices connected to a range extender may experience lower speeds compared to direct connection to the router due to signal repetition.
How do I change the wireless settings on the DAP-1320?
- Access the web browser link (e.g.,
http://dlinkap.local./
). - Log in with the administrator password (blank by default).
- Navigate to Settings > Extended Wi-Fi Settings.
- Enter a new Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and password.
- Click "Save".
Note: If you change the Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID), your current connection to the DAP-1320 will drop. You will need to reconnect using the new SSID and password.
What if I forgot my DAP-1320 password?
- To reset the DAP-1320 to factory defaults, press and hold the reset button (using a paper clip) for 10 seconds. ⚠️ This will erase all settings.
- After resetting, you can repeat the WPS process or log in and run the Setup Wizard as described previously.
