Installation
Option 1: D-Link Wi-Fi App Setup
- Download the D-Link Wi-Fi app and launch it. (Available on [App Store] and [Google Play])
- Tap "Install New Device". Scan the QR code on the Quick Installation Card. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Option 2: Quick WPS Setup
- Plug your Range Extender into an available outlet near your wireless router. Wait until the Status LED is blinking amber (up to 3 minutes). Ensure the power toggle switch underneath is in the "on" position if the LED does not light up.
- Press the WPS button on your wireless router for 3 seconds. An LED on your router should start blinking.
- Within one minute, press the WPS button on your Range Extender for 2-3 seconds. The Status LED should start to blink green.
- When the Status LED turns solid green (up to 3 minutes), your Range Extender is securely connected to your wireless router.
Setup is complete. You can now move the Range Extender to a location between your router and the desired coverage area. By default, it shares the same Wi-Fi name and password as your router. If the signal strength indicator shows one amber bar or the LED does not turn solid green within 3 minutes after moving, place the Range Extender closer to the router.
Important Note
WPS may be disabled on some routers or modems. If the WPS Status LED on your router does not blink when the WPS button is pressed, try holding it longer. If it still does not blink, stop and configure your Range Extender using Option 1: D-Link Wi-Fi App Setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I connect to my wireless router or my wireless connection drops?
- Verify the Range Extender is within range of your wireless router. Try plugging it in closer to the router and check if the Status LED is solid green.
- Note that devices connected to the Range Extender may not achieve the same speed/throughput as when connected directly to the router.
Signal Strength Indicator
Signal strength is indicated by the number of bars and their color:
- Very Weak: 1 x Amber bar
- Weak: 1 x Green bar
- Good: 2 x Green bars
- Strong: 3 x Green bars
How do I change the wireless settings on my Range Extender?
- Open a web browser and go to the URL found on the Quick Installation Card or on the back of the Range Extender (e.g., http://dlinkapXXXX.local/).
- At the login screen, enter your Admin Password (default is "password" if WPS Setup was used) and click "Log in".
- Navigate to Settings > Extender.
- Enter a new Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and modify security settings (Wi-Fi password) as needed.
- Click "Save".
What is Mesh Smart Roaming?
Mesh Smart Roaming allows your Wi-Fi device (e.g., Smartphone, Tablet) to automatically connect to the strongest Wi-Fi signal, eliminating the need to manually switch between your router's and Range Extender's Wi-Fi signals as you move around your home.
Mesh Smart Roaming Requirements:
- The Wi-Fi device must support the 802.11k/v standard.
- The Wireless Name (SSID) and Wireless Password must be identical on both the Mesh Wi-Fi Range Extender and your Wireless Router.
What if I forgot my Range Extender's Admin password or want to reset my Range Extender?
- To reset your Range Extender to factory default settings or if you forgot your Admin password, press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the extender using a paper clip until the Status light turns red. Note: This process erases all settings.
- Set up your Range Extender using your preferred method.
