Important Safety Information
WARNING: TO PREVENT FIRE OR SHOCK HAZARD, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN.
TO PREVENT THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). NO USER-SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE. REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.
The lightning symbol within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock.
The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the appliance.
For Canadian model with polarized plug: CAUTION: TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT USE THIS POLARIZED PLUG WITH AN EXTENSION CORD, RECEPTACLE OR OTHER OUTLET UNLESS THE BLADES CAN BE FULLY INSERTED TO PREVENT BLADE EXPOSURE.
For European and U.K. Models: This product contains a laser diode of higher class than 1. To ensure continued safety, do not remove any covers or attempt to gain access to the inside of the product. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
Power Cord Caution: Handle the power cord by the plug. Do not pull out the plug by tugging the cord and never touch the power cord when your hands are wet. Do not place the unit or furniture on the power cord, or pinch the cord. Never make a knot in the cord or tie it with other cords. A damaged power cord can cause fire or give you an electrical shock. Check the power cord periodically and ask for replacement if damaged.
Note on Power Switch: The power switch is secondary connected and does not separate the unit from mains power in standby position.
Connections
Ensure all components are turned off before making connections.
Connecting the Output Cable
Connect the LINE OUT jacks of this unit to the input jacks (CD or AUX) of your amplifier. Connect the white plugs to the left (L) jacks and the red plugs to the right (R) jacks. Do not connect to PHONO jacks as sound will be distorted.
For PD-S601 Only:
This unit has two sets of output connectors: VARIABLE and FIXED. Use the appropriate set for your amplifier's INPUT connectors. VARIABLE allows sound output level adjustment via the remote control, while FIXED maintains a constant output level.
Connecting the Optical Fiber Cable (PD-S601 Only)
This unit can be connected to an amplifier with an optical digital jack. Remove the protective dust cap, connect the OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT jack to the amplifier's optical digital input jack using an optical fiber cable. Ensure the cable is fully inserted.
CD-Deck Synchro Function
If you have a Pioneer cassette deck with CD-Deck synchro, connect the CD-DECK SYNCHRO jacks. This allows for synchronized recording between the player and deck. The CD-DECK SYNCHRO cord is not supplied.
System Remote Control with Pioneer Stereo Amplifier
For models with a mark on the amplifier, connect the CONTROL IN jack on the CD player to the CONTROL OUT jack of the amplifier using the supplied control cord. This allows the amplifier's remote control to operate the CD player's basic functions (Play, Stop, Pause, Track Search).
Basic Operation

Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions for common operational issues:
- Disc tray not expelling: Check power plug and ensure the POWER switch is ON.
- Playback stops immediately or pauses: Ensure the disc is loaded correctly (label side up/down as appropriate) and is clean.
- No sound: Check output cable connections and amplifier settings. Ensure the player is not in pause mode.
- Distorted sound or noise: Check connections, ensure pin plugs and terminals are clean, and avoid interference from TV sets.
- Loud noise or playback stops with certain discs: Check if the disc is scratched or dirty.
- TV screen fluctuation or FM noise: Move the player away from the TV or tuner, or turn off the TV.
- Remote control not functioning: Replace batteries, ensure you are within the operating range (approx. 7 meters) and angle (approx. 30 degrees), and check for obstructions. For PD-101 and some PD-S501/PD-201 models, ensure the control cord is connected.
For abnormal functioning possibly caused by lightning or static electricity, turn the power off and on again, or unplug and replug the AC power cord.
