TP-Link Kasa Spot (KC400) User Guide
This guide provides comprehensive instructions for setting up and using your TP-Link Kasa Spot (KC400) smart camera. It covers its features, operation, and integration with the Kasa Smart ecosystem.
Introduction
The Kasa Spot camera connects to your home network, allowing you to monitor your home remotely via the Kasa Smart app. It offers peace of mind by letting you see every detail on your phone.
The Kasa Spot can be used independently or integrated with other Kasa smart home devices like plugs, bulbs, and switches. The Kasa app facilitates this integration and provides access to the camera's features:
- Crystal Clear Video: Offers sharp and clear 4 MP high resolution for detailed visuals, even when zoomed.
- Night Vision: Detects activity up to 30 feet away in complete darkness.
- Live View: Allows real-time monitoring from anywhere using the Kasa Smart app.
- Secure Local Storage: Footage can be saved on a microSD card (not included) and accessed via the Kasa Smart app. The camera will overwrite the oldest files when the card's memory is full.
- Kasa Care Cloud Storage: Optional subscription service to store video clips in the cloud for backup and enhanced features. Plan availability may vary by region.
- Customizable Activity Zones: Create specific zones for motion detection to receive targeted alerts.
- Crisp Two-Way Audio: Features a built-in microphone and speaker for direct communication.
Appearance
The Kasa Spot features a system LED that indicates its status, a microphone, a speaker, a micro USB port, a microSD card slot, and a RESET button.

System LED Status:
- Solid amber: Rebooting
- Alternating amber and green: SoftAP Mode
- Flashing red: Connecting to Wi-Fi
- Flashing green: Connected to Wi-Fi
- Solid green: Bound to Cloud
- Flashing amber: Resetting to SoftAP/Factory mode
Microphone: Built-in internal microphone. Do not insert objects into the hole.
Speaker: Emits sound from the camera.
Micro USB Port: Connect the provided power cord here.
Micro SD Card Slot: Insert a microSD card to save recorded videos locally.
RESET Button:
- Press and hold for 3 to 15 seconds: Reset to SoftAP mode
- Press and hold for over 15 seconds: Reset to Factory mode
Insert a microSD Card
For video recording, you can use a microSD card. The camera will overwrite the oldest files when the card's memory is full. A Kasa Care Plan is available for cloud storage.
Instructions:
- Locate the SD card slot on the side panel of your Kasa Spot.
- Hold the microSD card correctly and carefully insert it into the slot until you hear a click.

Set Up Your Camera
Follow these steps to set up your new camera:
Step 1: Download Kasa
Download the Kasa Smart app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code provided.

Step 2: Log In
Open the Kasa Smart app and log in with your TP-Link ID. Create an account if you don't have one.

Step 3: Start Setup
Tap the [Add Icon] button in the Kasa app and select "Kasa Spot".

Step 4: Configure Camera
Follow the in-app instructions to configure your camera and add it to your home network.

Step 5: Place Camera
Position your camera on a flat surface or mount it on a wall or ceiling using the provided indicator label and mounting screws.
For cement walls: Drill two ⌀6mm holes, insert plastic expansion tubes, and screw in the mounting screws. For soft surfaces, screw directly.

Main Device Controls
After setup, the Kasa Smart app's home page displays all your added Kasa devices. Tap your camera to enter the live view page for management.
Home Page
View all your Kasa devices listed on the Home page.

Turn on/off your camera
Quickly turn your camera on or off by tapping the switch on the home page. When off, the camera is in privacy mode and will not stream live video.

Set Schedules
Set schedules to automatically turn your camera on or off at specific times according to your daily routine.
To set a schedule:
- Tap your camera on the Home page to enter the live view page, then tap the [Schedule Icon].
- Tap the [+] icon in the top right corner.
- Configure the schedule: Select the action (e.g., Turn Off Power), set the time, and choose repeat days. For example, to turn off the camera daily at 8:00 PM.
- Tap 'Save'. Your schedule will appear on the Schedule Page. You can add more schedules following the same steps.
- You can turn off any schedule at any time from the Schedule page.

Set 24/7 Recording
When 24/7 Recording is enabled, your camera records continuously, ensuring you never miss an event. Ensure your microSD card is formatted in the Kasa Smart app before use.
To set up 24/7 Recording:
- Navigate to the 24/7 Recording section in the app.
- Check recorded videos in 24/7 Recording mode.
- Enable or disable 24/7 Recording in the Device Settings. You can also check your microSD card storage status here. Encryption can be enabled to restrict access to recorded videos to this camera only.

Manage Device Settings
Access and adjust various settings for your Kasa Spot camera through the Kasa Smart app.
1. Turn Camera On/Off:
In the live view page, tap the settings icon [Gear Icon]. You can turn the camera off to enable privacy mode, preventing live view and recording.

2. Device Settings Menu:
Access the main device settings screen from the live view page.

3. Edit Device Name:
Change the name of your camera for easier identification (e.g., "Living Room Camera").

4. Set Detection and Sensitivity:
Configure motion and sound detection. Enable 'Detect Motion'/'Detect Person' and adjust sensitivity. Enable 'Listen for Sound'/'Detect Baby Crying' and adjust sensitivity for sound detection.

5. Record Audio:
Enable 'Record Audio' to capture sound along with video.

6. Manage Notifications:
Choose which events trigger notifications (Person Detected, Baby Crying Detected, All Other Motion & Sound). You can set notification times and enable 'Automatically Limit Notifications' to reduce frequent alerts.

7. Set Activity Zones:
Create custom activity zones to receive alerts only for specific areas of interest.

8. Choose Video Quality:
Select the video resolution (e.g., 720P, 1080P, 2K). Higher quality provides better visuals but requires more bandwidth and storage.

9. Choose Video Rotation:
Rotate the video feed if needed (e.g., 'Normal' or 'Upside Down').

10. Choose Night Vision:
Set night vision to 'Automatic' (switches based on light), 'Off', or 'Always On'.

Control the status LED on the camera.

Reset Your Camera
TP-Link provides two methods to reset your camera to factory settings:
Method 1: Via the Kasa App
- On the Home page, swipe left on your camera and tap 'Delete'.
- Tap 'Remove Device' in the confirmation prompt. Your camera will be removed from your Kasa account and reset.

Method 2: Via Device Settings
- Navigate to the 'Device Settings' page for your camera.
- Tap 'Remove Device' at the bottom of the settings menu. Your camera will be removed from your Kasa account and reset.

Smart Actions - Motion Sensing
Smart Actions enable device interconnections and home automations, making your smart home safer and more comfortable. For your Kasa Smart Camera, you can set up 'Motion Sensing' smart actions.
To set up a Motion Sensing action:
- In the Kasa app, tap 'Smart Actions' at the bottom, then tap 'Add an Action'.
- Select 'Motion Sensing' as the automation type.
- Example: Turn on a light when motion is detected.
- Tap 'Motion Sensing', then select your Kasa camera (e.g., 'Living Room Cam').
- Select the device you want to control (e.g., 'Living Room Light' connected to a Kasa Smart Plug).
- Set the notification preference (e.g., 'Always' or 'Custom Time').
- Optionally, set an 'Auto-Off Timer' for the action.
- Name your action (e.g., "Motion-light") for easy identification.
- Tap 'Done' or 'Complete' to save the action.

- Motion Sensing: Triggers actions when a Kasa camera detects motion.

- Schedule a Scene: Activate a 'Scene' automatically at a specified time.
- Auto-Off Timer: Automatically turns off a smart device after a set duration.

Launch the Kasa Smart app, navigate to the sidebar, and tap 'Works with Kasa'. You can find detailed instructions for integrating with:
- Amazon Alexa: Control devices using voice commands.
