Audiolab 6000A MKII
Jul 2025 - The Audiophile Man
"...I have to come back once again to the cohesive nature of the sonic presentation. Sound here was presented as a well-designed and formulated whole. Nothing sounded out of place. There were no irritating frequencies sticking out from the sonic picture, making a nuisance of themselves...The 6000A MKII sounded correct. It sounded right...For under 1,000, the 6000A MKII is the reference design that all competitors need to test against...The 6000A MKII is the new default. It is the new standard..."

"And it's definitely worth putting the effort in to find speakers that really gel with the 6000A MKII. If we do the simple business of crunching the specs, it delivers a collection of analogue and digital connections that are competitive with anything under a grand. It's what it does with that functionality that is really impressive, however. Across its connectivity, the Audiolab delivers a heady balance of hi-fi sensibilities and musical satisfaction that makes it very hard to beat. The 6000A MKII takes everything that the original did and proceeds to do it that little bit better. The already difficult business of choosing an affordable integrated amp just got a little bit tougher."

"It has more and better connectivity than either the Fell, Rega or Arcam. It is cheaper than the latter two and only 100 more than the Fell. It cannot match the sheer quantity of inputs on the Advance Paris X-i75 and it's not a powerful but that HDMI eARC connection is something little else at the price has. I can't lie; were it my own money, I would likely go with the Brio but I feel that the process by which people will reach a final decision is sufficiently broad that as many people will choose the 6000A MkII..."

"The 6000A MKII offered a clean sound, fairly neutral tonal balance, and a very good built-in DAC. But what set it apart was its ability to drive a wide range of speakers, thanks to a generously sized power supply backed by 60,000 F of filter capacitance. Many amplifiers costing multiples more had less. The Audiolab 6000A MKII gets an update with an improved power supply and a revised DAC based on the latest ESS chip, plus HDMI ARC inclusion. But the competition is fierce. I compared it directly to the Rega Brio Mark 7, known for its mid-range resolution. The 6000A MKII held its own, with superior bass control, soundstaging, and imaging."

"Given the overall tonality, you can probably already guess what's coming next: The Audiolab components aren't for listeners who prefer a warm and cozy sound. They appeal more to fans of clear announcements without drifting into excessive nitpicking and getting lost in the details. Listeners who generally prefer a neutral sound and tolerate or appreciate small excursions into something a little fresher are part of the target audience – as are hi-fi fans with darker-toned speakers who desire more balance and drive in their system."

"While building a two-box amplifier might initially look a firmly retro-inspired move, Audiolab has actually been rather savvy here. If you want to build on the performance of the 9000A, the Q and P combination (to say nothing of running two Ps as bridged monoblocks) is a useful step forward. Equally, if you have no need for the pair of them, on their own they bring qualities that the 9000A has been demonstrating since its launch to more specialist applications. The two-box Audiolab bridges classic and modern thinking in a way that is likely to win it a lot of friends."

"At 2500 for the duo, it sits between the Cambridge Audio CX and EX integrated/network player range. I prefer the Audiolab build quality but features and soundwise they are very different, as are the IAG Audiolabs from the Quad offerings I mention. The Audiolab might not look as beautiful as a TAG McLaren from old, but it performed better, and with the excellent knowledge from Jan Ertner and his team they should be proud of the sound, build, and design of this series..."

"9000Q: The Audiolab 9000Q impressively showcases what a high-quality preamp can achieve: with its large TFT display, a variety of connection options, and customizable sound filters, it offers enormous flexibility and comfort. Particularly noteworthy is the integrated MM phono stage, which convinces vinyl enthusiasts with a clear and well-defined sound. Thanks to its thoughtful operating concept and top-notch build quality, the 9000Q is a thoroughly successful preamp that sets the highest standards in sound quality when combined with the appropriate power amplifier.
9000P: The Audiolab 9000P impresses as a powerful Class AB power amplifier, offering fast and precise signal processing thanks to its current feedback technology (CFB). With a power output of 2 100 watts at 8 ohms (or 2 160 watts at 4 ohms), it effortlessly provides ample reserves for most speakers. Notably pleasing is the customizable operating mode: in stereo operation, it delivers a spacious, dynamic playback, while the 9000P can also be used as a mono power amplifier if needed. The minimalist, high-quality design with few control elements perfectly complements the overall impression. For those seeking a flexible and sound-powerful amplifier for demanding stereo use, the Audiolab 9000P is an excellent choice."

It is confident with rhythms and tempos. It can express tiny harmonic variances just as readily as big dynamic shifts... it creates a soundstage that's properly organised and is easy to understand. It really doesn't seem to care what sort of music you listen to... if you want a proper taste of a full-on hi-fi set-up without finding the money and the space for a full-on hi-fi set-up, the Audiolab Omnia will get you most of the way there... roper convenience with hardly any compromise, the Audiolab Omnia is a one-box hi-fi solution."

Moving on to the Omnia's CD playback, I found it to be exemplary! ...the Omnia proves to be as resolute as other great transports... In fact when listening to the tracks... the internal CD transport provided for a new one presentation that was on par of my number one reference transport... with respect to the ability to grab and hold hang on every note and detail... Comparing to other competitors' brand, Andrew affirms that 'I will still lightly to go with the Omnia (over the rivals), because I just prefer the Audiolab sound!' and 'if I have to choose, I'm going with the Omnia!' ...Robinson summarises 'it's a fantastic, all-in-one integrated amp. This should come as no surprise seen as its built on already solid platform that is the 6000A PLAY and CDT'."

"Audiolab's choice of Play-Fi, one of the biggest and best-supported platforms... is a good choice... I'm pleased to say connectivity and all-around functionality has been very good... At this price, this is ridiculous for all this functionality, and it looks great anywhere, it's proper HiFi. Solid amplification, a good streaming DAC and it does just about anything you can throw at it, from vinyl to Bluetooth and beyond, and it has the Play-Fi front end."

"The quality of the digital analogue coversion of [6000A Play] is absolutely fantastic! If you like most people and you're more than satisfied than CD quality sound, this system will reward you in spades. And ,I don't know that I've heard another system at this price point, that's with DAC implementation. rips out the amount of detail or gives you the level of information that Audiolab implementation does here... If you're looking at getting into music streaming, this is really a fantastic option... it really does keep things simple. It is a great streamer, but you have all these fantastic inputs on the back for alternate sources as well. It fills as a whole that I don't know that many other products at this price point really do, offering you functionality and ease."

"I had zero expectations going into this review... I can happy say that the 6000A Play is insanely impressive. This is an incredibly capable amplifier...While it has only 50w per dance of power, the control it has over any speaker connected to it, I would have swore that this amp was way, way more powerful! As impressed as I am with the (6000A) Play's sonic performance, I have to say that the built-in DAC is pretty damn good! The integrations and communication between the app (DST Play-Fi) and the audiolab is excellent. The audiolab as a standalone pre-amp is awesome!"
