ESSLNB 360x70mm Astronomical Telescope Instruction Manual
Introduction
ESSLNB new astronomy telescope allows users to enjoy and explore both terrestrial and celestial objects, providing a fun experience. The manufacturer states it is a high-end product made with non-polluting and non-toxicity substances, certified as harmless to the human body. This instruction manual contains important information for optimal telescope use. For assembly or operation assistance, users may contact the manufacturer by mail. The manual encourages users to embark on a journey of discovery with the telescope.
WARNING
To avoid any eye injury, never look directly into another optical instrument through the telescope and never observe the sun with unprotected eyes.
Telescope Parts
The following components are part of the ESSLNB astronomical telescope:
- A. Finder Scope: A small auxiliary telescope used for aiming.
- B. Finder scope bracket: Mount for the finder scope.
- C. Finder scope adjustment screws: Used to align the finder scope with the main telescope.
- D. Finder scope focusing ring: Adjusts the focus of the finder scope.
- E. Eyepiece holder mount: Where the eyepiece is inserted.
- F. Diagonal prism: Redirects light path for comfortable viewing.
- G. Focusing wheel: Moves the eyepiece in and out to achieve focus.
- H. Pan and tilt lever: Controls the movement of the telescope head for aiming.
- I. Objective lens: The primary lens that gathers light.
- J. Main telescope tube: The main body of the telescope.
- K. Tripod head: Connects the telescope to the tripod.
- L. Azimuth lock knob: Locks the horizontal movement of the telescope.
- M. Center column lock knob: Adjusts and locks the height of the center column on the tripod.
- N. Tripod lock bolt: Secures the telescope tube to the tripod head.
- O. Tripod wing nut: Used to secure the tripod legs.
- P. Tripod leg: Supports the telescope.
Instruction For Assembly
Follow these steps to assemble the telescope:
- Extend the tripod legs to the desired length and secure them by opening and then closing the wing nuts.
- Gently pull the tripod apart to open it.
- Use the center column lock knob (M) to adjust the center column height and then tighten it.
- Loosen the Azimuth lock knob (L) and use the pan handle to move the pan head to the desired direction.
- Place the main telescope tube (J) onto the tripod head (K) platform. Secure it by rotating the tripod lock bolt (N). Do not overtighten or twist the telescope onto the tripod, as this may cause damage.
- Loosen the thumbscrews and insert the finderscope into its bracket. Ensure the objective lens of the main telescope is directed towards the front.
- Mount the finderscope onto the main telescope tube by removing the two silver nuts on the tube and reattaching them over the finderscope bracket. Ensure the bracket is angled towards the front of the telescope.
- Insert the diagonal lens (D) into the focusing tube (C). Hold it in place by tightening the corresponding mounting bolts.
- Loosen the thumbscrew. Insert an eyepiece into the diagonal prism (F) and tighten it. The eyepiece may require adjustment using a small tightening screw.
- If a Barlow lens is available, insert it between the eyepiece (and diagonal lens, if used) and the focusing tube. Alternatively, for potentially better effect, insert the eyepiece directly into the focusing tube without the diagonal lens, depending on user preference.
Assembly is completed.
Telescope Use
Instructions for using the telescope:
- Remove all lens covers.
- Loosen the aiming screw. Look into the eyepiece and turn the telescope to your target using the pan and tilt handle. Then, tighten the Azimuth lock knob (K).
- Tighten the aiming screw and handle.
- Rotate the focusing knob to make the target image clear.
- Look into the finderscope eyepiece and roll its eyepiece until the target is clear.
- For calibration, loosen the finderscope adjustment screw and move the finderscope until the target is aligned with the view in the main telescope. Then, tighten the screw.
- After finderscope calibration, look into the finderscope eyepiece, aim the telescope towards your target, and then tighten the main telescope's aiming screw.
- Look into the main telescope's eyepiece and roll the focusing knob to make the target image clear.
- Replace the current eyepiece with a high-power eyepiece to magnify your target.
- If a Barlow lens is used, insert it as shown in the assembly instructions.
Finderscope Adjustment
Before using the telescope, it is recommended to set up and adjust the finderscope. This ensures the image viewed through the finderscope matches the view in the main telescope eyepiece, aiding in easily locating celestial or terrestrial objects due to its lower magnification and wider field of view.
- Using the lowest power eyepiece (20mm) in the eyepiece holder, find a well-defined object approximately 300 meters away.
- Looking through the finderscope, adjust the Finder scope adjustment screws (C) on the finder scope bracket (B) until the finderscope's crosshairs are precisely centered on the same object as seen through the telescope eyepiece. Focus the finderscope by rotating its focusing ring (D).
- Once aligned, the telescope is ready for use. Objects located with the finderscope will be centered in the main telescope's field of view.
Eyepiece and Theoretical Power Limits
The operational magnification (power) of a telescope is calculated by dividing the focal length of the telescope tube by the focal length of the eyepiece in use.
3X Barlow Lens
The 3X Barlow lens, when used with 20mm or 6mm eyepieces, increases magnification by three times, potentially with a slight loss in light and image quality. To use it, carefully remove the diagonal prism by loosening its retaining screw on the eyepiece holder mount, and replace it with the 3X Barlow lens. Insert the chosen eyepiece into the Barlow lens holder and secure it by tightening the retaining screw.
Eyepiece | Power | With 3X Barlow lens |
---|---|---|
K25mm | 14X | 42X |
K6mm | 60X | 180X |

CARE OF THE TELESCOPE
- Daytime observation of distant objects is recommended for users to become accustomed to the telescope. Observing the moon or a bright star is easier for first-time evening use.
- Always start with the lowest power eyepiece first. Change to higher power only after the object has been found. Focus by rotating the focusing wheel until the image is clear.
- Avoid touching the eyepiece or telescope while in use, as this may cause the object to move out of the telescope's field of view. Ensure the tripod is positioned on a firm surface.
- The telescope's position can be adjusted by loosening the Pan and tilt handle.
- Allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness before night-time observations.
- Using the telescope through an open or closed window may cause distortion.
- Atmospheric conditions, such as fog and heavy cloud cover, will affect image quality.
- When not in use, keep the telescope in a dry place.
- Clean the lens surfaces as infrequently as possible. Use a soft lens brush or compressed air to gently remove dust. Wipe only with a soft lens cleaning cloth.
