To ensure the Soundbank update process completes successfully, please follow these steps carefully. Failure to do so may result in bricking your NUX NPK-20 or causing it to malfunction. It is also recommended that you first read this guide thoroughly before starting.
1. Getting Ready - Download and extract the Soundbank Firmware
Download the appropriate Soundbank firmware for your operating system (Windows or macOS) from the NUX NPK-20 product page.
- NUX_NPK20_SBANK_Firmware_V220517_Windows.zip is for Users on Windows.
- NUX_NPK20_SBANK_Firmware_V220517_macOS.zip is for Users on macOS
Unzip the downloaded file directly to a root folder, such as C:/Desktop/ on Windows or /Users/YourUserName/Downloads on macOS. The extracted folder should contain the following files:
- Windows: NPK20_Soundbank_20220517.bin and RPC-DFUForWin.exe
- macOS: NPK20_Soundbank_20220517.bin and RPC-DFU 1.0.0.dmg
2. Connect your NUX NPK-20 to your computer and put it into DFU(Device Firmware Update) mode.
Connect your NUX NPK-20 to your computer using a USB Type-B 2.0 cable (commonly known as a printer cable). The USB port on the NUX NPK-20 is located on the back panel.
The NUX NPK-20 keyboard back panel shows several ports including DC IN, AUX OUT, MIC Jack & MIC GAIN Control Knob, AUX-IN Jack, USB-MIDI Jack, and PEDAL Jack.
Press and hold both the [DUAL/SPLIT] and [FUNCTION] buttons, then press the [POWER] button to turn on your NUX NPK-20 in DFU mode. Release all buttons when the screen displays: "FIRMWARE UPDATE START READY!".
The NPK-20 screen displays "FIRMWARE UPDATE START READY!".
3. Run the Updater Utility and start the Soundbank firmware upgrade.
Run the Updater (RPC-DFU 1.0.0.dmg for macOS or RPC-DFUForWin.exe for Windows) on your computer.
The RPC-DFU application window shows 'Device RPC DFU(RPC) Device', 'Programming Target' set to 'No target', and buttons for 'Refresh', 'File...', 'CustomButton', 'Soundbank info', 'Verify soundbank', and 'Start Program'.
From the “Programming Target" dropdown menu, choose "1st Soundbank: ~~". (This step is crucial, as it specifies that you are updating the Soundbank firmware.)
The RPC-DFU application window shows the 'Programming Target' dropdown menu with '1st Soundbank: 00080000..15E80000' selected. The status bar shows 100%.
Click File..., locate the firmware file (NPK20_Soundbank_20220517.bin), then click Start Programming. Wait until the status bar reaches 100%. Do NOT unplug the USB cable or power supply during this process.
4. Complete the firmware update
When the status bar reaches 100%, you will not be able to turn off the NPK-20 using the power button. Unplug the power supply, plug it back in, and then press the power button to turn on the NPK-20.
The Soundbank firmware has now been updated successfully.
