Introduction
Congratulations on the birth of your baby.
Thank you for choosing the Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Electric Breast Pump to help you provide breast milk to your baby. Whether returning to work or out for a few hours, your baby can still enjoy the benefits of your breast milk, even if you can't be there to give it yourself.
Our pump stimulates the breast with gentle pulsation and One-Way Airflow, which means faster let-down, more milk for your baby, and unrivaled comfort for you. Clinical trials show that stimulation is proven to help mothers initiate and maintain a long-term milk supply.
Many women do not express breast milk when they first try a new breast pump. Don't worry, as this is common. Try not to give up; simply wait a few minutes and try again, ensuring that you are comfortable and relaxed when expressing.
Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Electric Breast Pump Parts
The electric breast pump consists of a motor case with controls, a connector, a liner, and a bottle. The motor case is the main body of the pump, housing the motor and controls. The connector attaches the motor case to the breast flange. The liner, also known as the honeycomb liner, fits inside the connector and is placed against the breast. A bottle screws onto the bottom of the connector to collect milk.
- 1 Vacuum Dial: Adjusts the suction level.
- 2 Liner: The part that fits against the breast, often called the honeycomb liner.
- 3 Connector: Joins the motor case to the bottle and liner.
- 4 4-oz Wide-Neck Bottle (also includes 4-oz Standard Bottle): Container for collecting expressed milk.
- 5 Motor Case: The main unit containing the motor and controls.
- 6 On/Off Switch: Powers the pump on and off.
- 7 Power Plug-In: Port for connecting the AC adapter.
- 8 Battery Cover Screw: Secures the battery compartment cover.
- 9 Battery Cover: Accesses the battery compartment.
- 10 Stand: Base for the pump motor case.
Disassembling the Electric Breast Pump
- Unscrew the Bottle.

Cleaning Instructions
Gently wash the Liner, Connector, and Bottle in warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Air dry or towel dry.
To clean the Motor Case, wipe down with a damp cloth. Be careful not to dislodge the purple rubber plugs. Do not remove purple rubber plugs. Do not immerse the Motor Case in water or liquids.
Note: The Liner, Connector, and Bottle can be boiled for no more than 3 minutes. These parts are also dishwasher safe, but dishwashers may reduce plastic performance over time. Microwave sterilization is not recommended as it may reduce product performance.
Reassembling the Electric Breast Pump
- Wash your hands thoroughly before handling parts.
- Insert the honeycomb Liner, ensuring the edges snap firmly into place.
- Screw the Bottle in firmly.
- Place the Motor Case onto the Connector top.
- Align the arrow with the open padlock symbol. Press the Motor Case firmly onto the Connector, then turn clockwise to the locked position. The motor case twists clockwise to lock. Align the arrows to indicate the locked position.
Helpful Hints
- Always examine the pump for a firm and proper fit BEFORE USE. An airtight fit is essential for proper operation.
- Different vacuum settings may produce different sounds. A lower setting might produce an airy, wheezing noise, which is normal. Higher settings may cause these air noises to discontinue.
- The honeycomb Liner should be kept in its original shape. If folded or crimped for long periods, it may retain that shape. Submerge it in boiling water until its original shape returns.
- The Dr. Brown's pump offers a unique sensation, described by some users as 'fluttery' or 'tickling,' which is lighter and gentler on the breast compared to other pumps that may tug or pull the nipple uncomfortably.
- It is highly recommended to drink plenty of water and remain well hydrated.
How to Use the Electric Breast Pump
- Plug the Power Cord into the wall socket before inserting the other end into the Motor Case on the pump.
- Sit in an upright position, leaning slightly forward, well supported and relaxed.
- Set the Vacuum Dial to the minimum position. Center the nipple into the honeycomb Liner. Turn the pump on.
- After a few seconds, slowly increase the Vacuum Dial to a desired comfort level. Most first-time users prefer a medium vacuum setting, while experienced users may prefer a setting between medium and maximum.
- If the vacuum is too low, adjust the Vacuum Dial up. If the vacuum becomes too high, press the side of the breast flange to break the vacuum, adjust the vacuum setting lower, center the nipple into the honeycomb Liner, and resume pumping.
- When finished expressing, turn off the breast pump, press the side of the breast flange to break the vacuum, remove the Power Cord from the Motor Case, and unplug from the wall socket.
Note: When the pump is in operation, do not lay it on its side.
Breast Milk Storage Guidelines
- Storage containers must be clean before use.
- Breast milk should be kept at room temperature for the shortest time possible and refrigerated or frozen immediately after expression.
- Breast milk can be stored at room temperature for up to six hours.
- Breast milk stored in a refrigerator should be used within 5 days and stored at a temperature of 35-39°F (2-4°C).
- Breast milk not used within 5 days should be stored frozen at -4°F (-20°C) for a maximum of 6 months.
Breast Milk Defrosting and Warming
- Wash your hands thoroughly before handling breast milk.
- It is recommended to defrost frozen breast milk in the refrigerator. If needed quickly, defrost under cool, then warm running water.
DO NOT USE A MICROWAVE TO DEFROST OR WARM BREAST MILK.
