Ubiquiti UniFi Ethernet Surge Protector Installation Guide

Overview

This guide provides instructions for installing the Ubiquiti UniFi Ethernet Surge Protector (ETH-SP-PRO) for outdoor network protection.

Installation Steps

  1. Step 1: Mounting the Surge Protector

    Diagram shows the surge protector mounted vertically, with an Ethernet cable connected to the bottom port and an Ethernet cable to be connected to the top port.

    Connect the outdoor Ethernet cable to the bottom port of the surge protector. Connect the indoor Ethernet cable to the top port.

  2. Step 2: Grounding Connection

    Diagram illustrates connecting the grounding wire to the surge protector and then to a grounding point.

    Connect the grounding wire (not included) to the grounding terminal on the surge protector. Ensure the grounding wire is properly connected to a suitable grounding point (e.g., a grounding rod or the building's grounding system).

    Required Components:

    • Grounding Wire
    • M5 screw (1x)
    • Washer (1x)

  3. Step 3: Cable Management and Protection

    Diagram shows the surge protector with a cable clamp securing the outdoor Ethernet cable, and the grounding wire attached.

    Secure the outdoor Ethernet cable using a clamp. The surge protector is designed to protect against electrical surges, including those from lightning.

  4. Step 4: Pole Mounting (Optional)

    Diagram shows the surge protector being attached to a pole using a mounting bracket and straps.

    The surge protector can be mounted on a pole with a diameter of Ø38-50 mm (01.5-2"). Use appropriate mounting hardware and straps (not included).

  5. Step 5: Connecting to Network Devices

    Diagram shows the surge protector connected between an outdoor PoE device and a UniFi Cloud Gateway or Switch.

    Connect the indoor Ethernet cable from the surge protector to your UniFi Cloud Gateway, Switch, or other PoE device.

  6. Step 6: Final Connections

    Diagram shows the complete setup with the surge protector installed and connected to the network.

    Ensure all connections are secure and the grounding is properly established.

  7. Step 7: System Integration

    Diagram shows the surge protector integrated into a larger network topology, including internet connection, UniFi Cloud Gateway, Switch, and PoE devices.

    The surge protector is part of a comprehensive network protection strategy, safeguarding devices from power surges.
