How to Use: Keycap and Switch Replacement
This section guides users on how to safely replace keycaps and mechanical switches.
1. Remove Keycap
Use the provided keycap puller tool. Clamp the tool onto a keycap and pull upwards to detach it from the switch. For longer keys like the spacebar, ensure you clamp and pull from the middle of the keycap.
Visual Description: A hand is shown using a keycap puller to lift a keycap off a keyboard switch.
2. Remove Switch
Utilize the switch puller tool. Push in the two tabs located on the top and bottom sides of the switch. Once the tabs are depressed, pull upwards to remove the switch from the keyboard housing. Caution: Be careful to avoid scratching the keyboard case with the tool.
Visual Description: A hand is shown using a switch puller tool to push the retaining tabs on a mechanical switch and then lifting the switch out of its socket.
3. Insert Switch
When installing a new switch, align it with the corresponding socket on the keyboard and press straight down. Minimal resistance should be felt, and the switch should seat firmly. It is recommended to test the switch by opening a text editor on your PC to ensure it registers keystrokes. If the switch does not light up or register, remove it, check that the pins are straight, and reinsert.
Note: It is safe to swap switches while the keyboard is connected to your PC.
Visual Description: A hand is shown aligning a new mechanical switch with the keyboard socket and pressing it down until it clicks into place.
4. Insert Keycap
Once you have confirmed the switch is correctly installed and functioning, snap the appropriate keycap back onto the switch stem.
