Operation
HOB BURNERS
To light a burner: Turn the relevant control knob anticlockwise to maximum position. At the same time, push the electric ignition pushbutton (marked by a spark symbol). Then adjust the flame as required. If the burner does not ignite, turn the control knob to zero and try again.
For maximum burner efficiency, use pots and pans with a flat bottom fitting the size of the burner used (see table).
Burner | Minimum Diameter | Maximum Diameter |
---|---|---|
Large (rapid) | 180 mm. | 260 mm. |
Medium (semi-rapid) | 120 mm. | 220 mm. |
Small (Auxiliary) | 80 mm. | 160 mm. |
? If you use a saucepan smaller than recommended, the flame will spread beyond the bottom of the vessel, causing the handle to overheat.
? As soon as a liquid starts boiling, turn down the flame so that it will barely keep the liquid simmering.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Before any maintenance or cleaning, DISCONNECT the hob from the electricity supply.
The hob is best cleaned whilst it is still warm, as spillage can be removed more easily than if it is left to cool.
The Hob Top
Regularly wipe the hob top using a soft cloth wrung out in warm water with a little washing-up liquid. Avoid:
- Household detergent and bleaches.
- Impregnated pads unsuitable for non-stick saucepans.
- Steel wool pads.
- Bath/sink stain removers.
For heavily soiled hob tops, use a cleaning product such as Hob Brite or Bar Keepers Friend.
Pan Supports
The pan supports are dishwasher proof. If washing by hand, dry them carefully as enamelling can leave rough edges. Remove stubborn stains using a paste cleaner.
The Burners
Burner caps and crowns can be removed for cleaning. Wash them with hot soapy water. Remove marks with a mild paste cleaner. A well-moistened soap-impregnated steel wool pad can be used with caution for difficult marks. After cleaning, wipe dry with a soft cloth.
Something Not Working?
If the hob is not working correctly, perform the following checks before contacting your local Service Force Centre. IMPORTANT: A charge will be made for engineer call-outs for faults caused by incorrect use or installation, even if the appliance is under guarantee.
SYMPTOM | SOLUTION |
---|---|
There is no spark when lighting the gas | ✅ Check that the unit is plugged in and the electrical supply is switched on. ✅ Check that the RCCB has not tripped (if fitted). ✅ Check the mains fuse has not blown. ✅ Check the burner cap and crown have been replaced correctly (e.g., after cleaning). |

Important Safety Requirements
This hob must be installed in accordance with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations (Current Edition) and the IEE Wiring Regulations (Current Edition). Detailed recommendations are contained in the following British Standards Codes Of Practice: B.S. 6172/ B.S. 5440, Part 2 and B.S. 6891 Current Editions.
Location
The hob should not be installed in a bed sitting room with a volume of less than 20 m³. If installed in a room of volume less than 5 m³, an air vent of effective area of 110 cm² is required. If installed in a room of volume between 5 m³ and 10 m³, an air vent of effective area of 50 cm² is required. If the volume exceeds 11 m³, no air vent is required.
However, if the room has a door opening directly to the outside, no air vent is required even if the volume is between 5 m³ and 11 m³.
If there are other fuel burning appliances in the same room, B.S. 5440 Part 2 Current Edition, should be consulted for requisite air vent requirements.
The hob may be located in a kitchen, a kitchen/diner, or bed sitting room, but not in a bathroom or shower room.
Before making the cut-out in the worktop, ensure that the edges of the hob near a side or rear wall have a minimum distance of 55 mm. between the edge of the hob and the wall.
The minimum distance for combustible material fitted above the hob is 400 mm. If fitted below 400 mm, a space of 50 mm. must be allowed from the hob edges.
The minimum distance for combustible material fitted directly above the hob is 700 mm.
A minimum distance of 100 mm. must be left between the side edges of the hob and any adjacent cabinets or walls.
Installation Clearances

- FITTING THE GAS HOB WITHOUT A COOKER HOOD ABOVE: Shows dimensions of 700 mm (above hob), 100 mm (sides), 400 mm (below hob), 55 mm (side wall to hob edge), 50 mm (below 400mm clearance).
- FITTING THE GAS HOB WITH A COOKER HOOD ABOVE: Shows dimensions of 600 mm (above hob), 100 mm (sides), 400 mm (below hob), 55 mm (side wall to hob edge), 50 mm (below 400mm clearance), 50 mm (additional clearance).
Installation
IMPORTANT: This hob must be installed by qualified personnel to the relevant British Standards. Any gas installation must be carried out by a registered CORGI installer.
The manufacturer will not accept liability if these or other safety instructions are ignored.
WHEN THE HOB IS FIRST INSTALLED
Once installed, remove any protective materials from the factory.
Ensure the GJ 1/2" threaded elbow is fitted correctly with the shoulder on the thread against the hob connecting pipe. Screw parts together without excessive force.
Gas Connection
Connection to the gas supply should be with rigid or semi-rigid pipe (steel or copper). The connection must be suitable for RC 1/2 (1/2 BSP male thread).
After final connection, a thorough leak test is essential. Ensure the main connection pipe does not exert strain on the hob.
It is important to install the elbow correctly, with the shoulder on the end of the thread fitted to the hob connecting pipe. Failure to ensure correct assembly will cause gas leakage.
Cut Out Size

Building In
Building over a cupboard or drawer
If the hob is installed above a cupboard or drawer, a heat-resistant board must be fitted below the base of the hob on the underside of the work surface.
Electrical connection should be made as shown in diagrams 1 and 2.
Building over a kitchen unit with door
Ensure furniture design avoids contact with the bottom of the hob, which can get hot during operation. Diagram 3 shows a recommended solution.
The panel fitted under the hob ('a') should be easily removable for technical assistance. The space behind the kitchen unit ('b') can be used for connections.
Diagrams show electrical connection points (ON/OFF SWITCH, FLEX OUTLET) and internal unit dimensions.
Electrical Connections
Any electrical work required to install this hob should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person, in accordance with current regulations.
THIS HOB MUST BE EARTHED.
The manufacturer declines liability for failure to observe these safety measures.
This hob is designed for connection to a 230-240V 50Hz AC electrical supply.
Before switching on, verify the electricity supply voltage matches the rating plate. The rating plate is located on the bottom of the hob.
The hob is supplied with a 3-core flexible supply cord and a 3amp plug. If the fuse needs changing, use a 3amp ASTA approved (BS 1362) fuse.
If the plug needs replacement, the wires in the mains lead are coloured as follows:
- Green and Yellow - Earth
- Blue - Neutral
- Brown - Live
Connect the green and yellow (earth) wire to the terminal marked 'E' or the earth symbol.
Connect the blue (neutral) wire to the terminal marked 'N' or coloured black.
Connect the brown (live) wire to the terminal marked 'L' or coloured red.
Ensure no stray wire strands are present and the cord clamp is secure over the outer sheath.
A cut-off plug inserted into a 13 amp socket is a serious safety hazard. Ensure any cut-off plug is disposed of safely.
Permanent Connection
For a permanent connection, install a double-pole switch between the hob and the electricity supply (mains). The switch must have a minimum gap of 3 mm. between contacts and be suitable for the required load, complying with current electric regulations.
The switch must not break the yellow and green earth cable.
⚠️ Ensure the hob supply cord does not contact surfaces with temperatures higher than 50°C.
