Operation
Electric Hotplates
To switch on a hotplate, turn the relevant control knob anticlockwise to the required heat setting. The control knob is numbered 1-6 (0 - OFF, 1 - Minimum, 6 - Maximum).
Hotplate Types:
- Normal Hotplates: Recommended to be switched to maximum (6) for a short while to boost the plate, then adjusted to the required setting.
- Rapid Hotplates: Indicated by a red dot, they heat up more quickly. The red dots may deteriorate over time but this does not affect performance.
Note: The plate may smoke and produce a slightly unpleasant odour when used for the first time; this is normal and will disappear.
Electric Hotplates Control Light
The Hotplates Control Light illuminates each time a cooking zone is switched on.
Cooking Temperature Suggestions
Setting | Temperature | Use |
---|---|---|
0 | OFF | |
1 | Very Gentle | To keep food warm |
2 | Gentle | To melt butter and chocolate |
3 | Slow | To prepare cream-sauces, stews and milk puddings or to fry eggs |
4 | Medium | Dried vegetables, frozen food, fruit, boiling water or milk |
5 | High | Boiled potatoes, fresh vegetables, pâtés, soups, broths, pancakes or fish |
6 | Fast | Larger stews, meat roll, fish, omelettes, steaks, Steaks, escalopes and frying. |
Hints and Tips
Saucepans for use on solid plates should have several characteristics:
- They should be fairly heavy duty.
- They should fit the heat area exactly, or be slightly larger for efficient use, NEVER smaller.
- They should have a flat base to ensure good contact with the plate. This is particularly important for high temperature frying or pressure cooking.
As soon as liquid starts boiling, turn down the plate control knob to maintain a simmer. You can switch off the plate before finishing cooking, using the accumulated heat. Stored stews in well-covered saucepans cook at lower temperatures, which is more economical.
Ensure pans are large enough to avoid liquids being spilt onto the plates. Never leave the plates on without a pan or with an empty pan.
Safety Warning: Never lean or reach over a hot electric plate. Always point pan handles inward or over the work surface next to the hob to avoid accidentally knocking over a pan. Take care when frying food in hot oil or fat, as overheated splashes could ignite.
If control knobs become difficult to turn, contact your local Electrolux Service Centre.
Diagram illustrating correct saucepan usage: pans should be heavy-duty, fit the heat area exactly or be slightly larger, and have a flat base. Incorrect usage shown with crossed-out images of small pans and pans with uneven bases. A warning symbol indicates to avoid leaning over hot plates and to keep pan handles turned inwards.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Important: Before any maintenance or cleaning, DISCONNECT the hob from the electricity supply.
The hob is best cleaned whilst still warm, as spillage is easier to remove.
The Hob Top
Regularly wipe the hob top with a soft cloth wrung out in warm water with a little washing up liquid. Avoid:
- Household detergent and bleaches.
- Impregnated pads unsuitable for non-stick saucepans.
- Steel wool pads.
- Bath/sink stain removers.
For heavily soiled hob tops, use a cleaning product like Hob Brite or Bar Keepers Friend. Control knobs can be removed by pulling them upward for easier cleaning.
The Hotplates
Spills onto the plates should be removed using warm water and a soft brush, nylon or plastic scourer. For maintenance, hotplate conditioner can be purchased from hardware stores. Alternatively, wipe plates with olive oil on a kitchen towel to prevent rust (note: this may cause slight smoking and odour on next use).
Stainless steel parts (spill rings and areas around hotplates) may become straw-coloured. Use a proprietary stainless steel cleaner to remove this discolouration.
Note: Failure to clean and condition hotplates may lead to rust and corrosion.

Diagram 3 indicates a 60mm depth for the unit and a 20mm minimum clearance. A close-up diagram 'a' shows the sealing gasket applied to the edges of the cut-out, forming a double seal to prevent liquid ingress.
Fitting the Hob into the Worktop
Apply the supplied seals to the edges of the cut-out, precisely on the front and rear edges, and 50 mm from the side edges, ensuring seals meet without overlapping.
Place the hob into the cut-out, ensuring it is centred.
Fix the hob using the relevant clamps and screws as shown in the diagram. Trim any excess seal after tightening screws.
The hob edge forms a double seal to prevent liquid ingress.
Electrical Connections
Any electrical work must be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person, adhering to current regulations. This hob must be earthed. The manufacturer is not liable for failure to observe these safety measures.
The hob connects to a 230-240V 50Hz AC electrical supply. Ensure the voltage matches the rating plate. The hob is supplied without a cord; a 3-core flexible supply cord must be fitted.
Connection Steps:
- Remove the mains terminal cover plate to expose the terminal block.
- Loosen cable clamp screws and lift the clamp to allow cable passage.
- Connect the red (live) wire to terminal 1.
- Connect the black (neutral) wire to terminal 4.
- Connect the green/yellow (earth) wire to terminal 5 (marked with earth symbol). The earth wire should be approx. 2 cm longer than live and neutral wires.
