Installation Instructions
Please read all of the instructions before you begin your installation.
- Open the fuse box panel located in the passenger side footwell to gain access to the vehicle's body control module (BCM). See Figure 1 for location.
- Remove factory plug A from the BCM and plug in the Z-Flash plug into A.
- Remove factory plug A from the BCM and plug in the Z-Flash plug into A.
- Remove factory plug B from the BCM and plug in the Z-Flash adapter plug B.
- Remove factory plug C from the BCM and plug in the Z-Flash adapter plug C.
- Connect the remaining 10 outputs into their respective leads on the flasher module in any order.
There are two ways to activate the module: with the provided switch or hard-wiring it into your own controller or the vehicle's upfitter switch. See chart below for instructions.
Note: Disconnect your vehicle's battery before disconnecting the BCM. Ford F-Series trucks will have two batteries.
Mode Switch
Replace paper clip or something similar in size into the hole shown in Figure 3 to switch modes. When the mode switch is in position A, the vehicle's factory functions will override the Z-Flash's warning functions. When the mode switch is in position B, the vehicle's factory functions will NOT override the Z-Flash's warning functions.
Note: It is not advised to run the Z-Flash in position B when on public roads.
Switch
Plug the provided switch into the flasher and turn on to activate.
Hardwire
Locate the red wire with the red wire (see Figure 3). Bag with the red wire has a 4-slot connector that plugs into the Z-Flash and the other end is bare wire that ties to a switch. If you need to switch patterns, simply use the red momentary switch into the other Z-Flash port that takes the 2-slot plug.

This figure shows a red wire integrated with a fuse holder and a fuse. This wire is used for hardwiring the module to an external switch.
Figure 4: Resistors
This figure shows a resistor labeled "T 25W 6RJ". The text explains that resistors are needed if you have non-factory LED bulbs or are experiencing a hyper-flash condition after installation. They should be installed on the lights causing the issue.
Figure 5: Red Jumper Wires
This figure shows red jumper wires. These are used when you want to disable certain lights from flashing.
Figure 6: Fuse Wire
This figure shows a fuse wire. This fuse wire is not needed unless you are hardwiring your module to an external switch.
FAQs
How does the Z-Flash BCM Flasher for Ford Vehicles work?
Using diagnostic signals, the Z-Flash Plug and Play Flasher for Ford Vehicles tells the vehicle to activate the respective lights using select BCM ports. The flasher module does not rewrite computer code or affect the vehicle in any way. The codes are the same that the dealer could use to diagnose your vehicle through the BCM ports.
Will this burn my computer?
The Z-Flash Plug and Play Flasher for Ford Vehicles does not put out any voltage and will not burn up the computer. It's similar to plugging a USB stick into your PC.
Will my brake lights still work?
Your brake and turn signals will override the flashing pattern. If the module is active and you hit the brakes or use your turn signal, that function will override. This cannot be disabled as it is an important safety feature.
Does this put my vehicle in reverse?
The Z-Flash Plug and Play BCM Flasher for Ford Vehicles will not change your vehicle's gears.
What are the benefits of having a plugin flasher?
They are very affordable and a great way to get your POV noticed when responding to emergencies. Plugin flashers are also a great addition if you already have a lighting system in your Ford. Plugin flashers require no additional wiring and can be installed in minutes!
Will this burn up my bulbs?
Like any headlight/taillight flasher, it will burn out your bulbs faster than normal. Aftermarket HIDs will burn up very quickly because the ballasts are not intended to flash.
Why are my Halogen bulbs not flashing or very dim?
Unlike LEDs, Halogen bulbs require a charge up and cool down time. Because of this, it is not possible to flash them as fast as LED bulbs.
Is the Z-Flash BCM Plug and Play Flasher for Ford Vehicles traceable?
Once removed, the flasher module does not leave any trace of being installed.
