General Cautions

To reduce the risk of electrical shocks, fire, etc.:

POWER Switch

This apparatus is provided with a POWER switch to minimize power consumption for safe use.

Proper Ventilation

To avoid risk of electric shock and fire, and to prevent damage, locate the apparatus as follows:

Front View Dimensions: Requires 15 cm clearance in front, 20 cm on sides, 15 cm on top, and 10 cm on bottom for ventilation.
Side View Dimensions: Requires 20 cm clearance on sides and 20 cm on rear.

Connections

Make all connections before plugging the AC power cord into an AC outlet.

Connecting to an amplifier with subwoofer output terminal or MONO output terminal

Connect to the INPUT (LOW-LEVEL) LEFT/MONO terminal using the supplied signal cord.

Connecting to the speaker output terminals of an amplifier

Connect speaker cords in parallel to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) matching.

Caution: When connecting to the TO MAIN SPEAKERS terminal (INPUT [HIGH-LEVEL]), ensure the speaker impedance is within the range indicated by the amplifier. Connecting speakers outside this range may cause malfunction.

Connecting to an amplifier with LINE OUT output terminals

Connect to the INPUT (LOW-LEVEL) RIGHT and LEFT/MONO terminals using separately purchased connecting cords.

Connecting to a preamplifier set

Connect to the INPUT (LOW-LEVEL) RIGHT and LEFT/MONO terminals using separately purchased connecting cords.

Setting the voltage selector switch

Ensure the AC power cord is disconnected before setting the voltage selector switch to the correct voltage.

Operation

Connecting the AC power cord

After all connections are completed, plug the AC power cord into an AC outlet. Ensure the AC outlet can deliver power greater than the unit's consumption (30 W).

Turning the Power ON

POWER button:

Indicator Lamp (with auto power on/off function):

Note: If the VOLUME knob is near MIN, amplifier volume is 0, or audio signals are very low, the unit may not switch from standby to ON mode.

To completely cut off power, set the rear panel POWER button to OFF and disconnect the power cord.

Adjusting the volume

Adjust the volume level of this unit to match the main speakers.

  1. Turn the VOLUME knob on this unit to the "MIN" position.
  2. Adjust the amplifier's volume to your normal listening level and play music.
  3. Turn the VOLUME knob on this unit to balance the volume with the main speakers.

After balancing, use the amplifier's volume knob to adjust the unit's volume.

PHASE button

Use this button to obtain a rich bass sound.

CROSSOVER FREQUENCY knob

Adjust this knob to balance the sound between this unit and the main speakers. Set to a higher frequency if main speakers are small and lack low frequencies (below 200 Hz).

Troubleshooting

Symptom Possible Cause Action
Power does not come on. Is the AC power cord disconnected from the AC outlet? Plug the AC power cord firmly into the AC outlet.
No sound is heard. Is the VOLUME knob turned to the "MIN" position?
Connections are incorrect, or loose?
Turn the VOLUME knob to a suitable volume. Check connections and make necessary corrections (See pages 3-4).
Howling is generated. Was installation performed correctly?
Is the volume too loud?
Check the installation (See page 1). Turn the VOLUME knob towards "MIN" until howling stops.
