Quick Start Guide
Product Introduction
The Kasa smart dimmer switch features built-in motion and ambient light sensors that work together to provide hands-free control. It automatically turns on and dims lights, saving you effort and electricity bills.
The physical switch includes the following components:
- Ambient Light Sensor: Detects ambient light levels.
- Motion Sensor: Detects motion.
- Dimmer Buttons: Used to adjust light brightness.
- On/Off Button: Toggles the light on or off.
- LED Indicator: Shows the status of the switch.
- Reset Button: Used for resetting the device.
- Restart Button: Used for restarting the device.
Wire Your Switch
Step 1: Prepare Wiring
First, turn off the circuit breaker that controls the switch. Remove the old wallplate. It is important to label the wires before disconnecting them:
- Ground: Typically a green or bare copper wire.
- Neutral: Usually a white wire; it is not connected to a traditional dumb switch.
- Line: Typically a black wire originating from the circuit breaker.
- Load: Usually a black wire that connects to the light fixture.
If you are uncertain about identifying the wires, please consult a qualified electrician.
Step 2: Disconnect Wires
Carefully disconnect the wires from the old wall switch.
Step 3: Connect Wires to Smart Switch
Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the smart dimmer switch as illustrated:

- Connect the Ground wire to the Ground terminal.
- Connect the Load wire to the Load terminal.
- Connect the Line wire to the Line terminal.
- Connect the Neutral wire to the Neutral terminal.
Step 4: Secure the Switch
Once all wires are connected, secure the dimmer switch into the wall box using the provided screws.
Set Up Your Switch
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE KASA SMART APP
Download the Kasa Smart app from your mobile device's app store. You can find it on the Apple App Store or Google Play.

STEP 2: SET UP THE SWITCH
Open the Kasa Smart app. Tap the [+] icon, then select "Smart Switches". Follow the on-screen, step-by-step instructions within the app to complete the setup of your smart dimmer switch.

Safety Notice
Before proceeding with the installation, servicing, or removal of this smart switch, it is crucial to read and adhere to all safety precautions outlined below:
- CAUTION - Risk of Electric Shock: To prevent electric shock, ensure that more than one disconnect switch is used to de-energize the equipment before servicing. A circuit breaker that simultaneously disconnects both the Line and Neutral conductors is recommended. Always confirm that power is turned off at the circuit breaker before removing or installing any switch. Utilize a non-contact voltage tester to verify that the power is indeed off.
- Installation and use of the Smart Switch must comply with the National Electric Code (NEC) and all applicable local electrical codes. If you are not familiar with these codes and requirements, or if you feel uncomfortable performing the installation, it is strongly advised to consult a qualified electrician.
- Avoid installing the Smart Switch with wet hands or while standing on wet or damp surfaces.
- Ensure installation is performed only within a suitable UL Listed outlet box. The box should meet the following minimum dimensions: Height > 2.95 inches (75 mm), Width > 1.81 inches (46 mm), Depth > 2 inches (51 mm).
- When connecting wires, tighten terminal screws securely to 13 lbf-in.
