Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the VOX amPlug 2 Headphone Guitar Amplifier. To take full advantage of this product and to ensure trouble-free operation, please read this owner's manual carefully and use the product as directed. This manual covers the amPlug 2 models: Clean, Blues, and Lead.
Safety Precautions
General Warnings
Warning: To prevent fire, electric shock, or injury, follow these instructions:
- Immediately turn off power if foreign objects enter the unit, or if the product malfunctions. Contact customer support for repairs.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. Do not perform any maintenance or part replacement not described in this manual.
- Avoid prolonged use at high volumes that may cause hearing loss. Consult a doctor if you experience hearing impairment or tinnitus.
- Do not insert foreign objects (flammable items, coins, wires, etc.) into the product.
- Do not use or store the unit in locations with extreme temperatures (direct sunlight, near heaters, on top of heat-generating equipment), high humidity, excessive dust, or heavy vibration.
- Do not use or store the unit in wet locations such as bathrooms or outdoors during rain.
- Do not place liquid containers (e.g., vases) on the unit.
- Do not spill liquids onto the unit.
- Do not handle the unit with wet hands.
General Cautions
Caution: Ignoring these instructions may result in injury or physical damage:
- Operate the unit at a sufficient distance from radios and televisions to avoid reception interference.
- Wipe the exterior with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners like benzene or thinner, or flammable polishes.
- Keep this manual for future reference.
- Never place liquid containers near the equipment. If liquid enters the unit, it could cause breakdown, fire, or electric shock. Be careful not to let metal objects get into the equipment.
Notice regarding disposal (EU only)
If the symbol of a crossed-out trash bin is shown on the product, manual, battery, or packaging, it must be disposed of correctly to prevent harm to human health or the environment. Contact your local administrative body for disposal details. If batteries contain heavy metals above regulated amounts, a chemical symbol will be displayed below the crossed-out bin symbol.
The FCC Regulation Warning (for USA)
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. If this equipment causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, try to correct it by reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, connecting to a different outlet, or consulting a dealer/technician. Unauthorized changes may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
Installation
Installing Batteries
1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert two AAA batteries, observing correct polarity. Alkaline batteries are recommended for extended use. Replace batteries when the indicator becomes dim.
Note: Remove depleted batteries immediately to prevent leakage. Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
Operation
Auto Power-Off Function
The amPlug 2 automatically turns off after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity (no button presses, control adjustments, or guitar input). Note that very low input levels or minimal sound changes might be misinterpreted as no input.
Guided Panel Tour
The amPlug 2 unit features a panel with numbered controls and jacks:
- 1. Input Plug: Connect your guitar here. The plug swivels to allow adjustment of its angle to match the guitar's input jack position.
- 2. STANDBY/ON/MODE Button & Indicator: Press and hold for about one second to turn the unit on or off. Pressing it while on cycles through modes, indicated by the LED color.
- 3. AUX Jack (Stereo): Connect an external audio device here. Adjust playback volume on the connected device.
- 4. GAIN Control: Adjusts the amplifier's gain.
- 5. TONE Control: Adjusts the tone.
- 6. VOLUME Control: Adjusts the overall volume of the amplifier.
- 7. FX Button: Selects an effect (Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Effect Off). Holding the FX button and pressing the STANDBY/ON/MODE button selects one of three variations for the current effect, indicated by beeps.
- 8. PHONES Jack: Connect headphones, portable speakers, a mixer, or a recording device here.
Connecting to External Equipment
Caution: Before connecting to external equipment (mixers, recorders), turn the external equipment's volume to minimum. After connecting, power on the amPlug 2, then adjust the external equipment's volume.
Handling and Care
Caution: When disconnecting from your guitar, grasp the amPlug 2 near the base of the input plug to avoid damage. Disconnect the amPlug 2 before leaning your guitar against a wall or placing it on the floor to prevent damage to either the amPlug 2 or the guitar.

The amPlug 2 offers different sound modes, indicated by the color of the indicator light:
