This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ robot vacuum. It covers setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your device.
Safety Information
WARNING: Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. Always follow basic precautions when using electrical appliances, including the following:
- Read and follow all safety instructions to reduce the risk of injury or damage.
- This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
- Keep the robot and Clean Base® away from water and wet conditions.
- Do not use the robot or Clean Base® with wet hands.
- Store and operate the robot at room temperature only.
- If the room to be cleaned has a balcony, a physical barrier should be used to prevent access to the balcony and ensure safe operation.
- Clean the cliff sensors to remove debris.
- If the room to be cleaned contains appliances such as an oven, a fan, or a humidifier, remove these appliances before operation. There is a risk of injury, accident, or malfunction if the robot comes into contact with them.
- Do not allow the robot or the charging station to get wet.
- Be aware that floors may be slippery after wet cleaning with your robot.
- Do not operate the robot in areas with exposed electrical outlets on the floor.
- Do not use this device to vacuum sharp objects, glass, or burning or smoking items.
- Be careful when walking in the area being cleaned, as the robot moves on its own.
- If the device drives over a power cord and pulls it, an object may be pulled from a table or shelf and fall. Pick up items such as clothing, loose papers, window blind or curtain pull cords, power cords, and any fragile items from the floor before use. Extinguish candles. Turn off mobile heaters.
- Perform required maintenance as described in the user manual to ensure safe operation of the robot and the docking station.
- If the robot is operated on a floor with stairs, please remove all objects from the top step.
Battery Safety
WARNING: Do not open, crush, or heat above 80°C (176°F) or incinerate. Follow manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not allow metal objects to touch battery terminals and do not immerse the battery in liquid to avoid short circuits. Do not subject batteries to mechanical shock.
- Regularly inspect batteries for signs of damage or leakage. Do not charge damaged or leaking batteries; if the liquid from a leaking battery comes into contact with skin or eyes, wash with plenty of water and seek medical attention. If a cell or battery is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
- For lithium-ion batteries and products with lithium-ion batteries, strict transportation regulations apply. If you need to ship this product (with battery) for service, travel, or other reasons, you MUST consult the troubleshooting section of the user manual or contact customer service for appropriate instructions.
CAUTION: Children should only use batteries under supervision. Seek medical attention immediately if a cell or battery is swallowed.
NOTICE: The battery must be removed from the robot before recycling or disposal.
Automatic Dirt Disposal
WARNING: Do not use the device if the cord or plug is damaged. If the device is not functioning properly, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, it must be sent to a service center.
- Unplug your robot before cleaning or maintenance.
- Do not use the charging station as a step stool.
- Do not insert objects into any openings. Do not use the device if an opening is blocked. Keep the device free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that could impede airflow.
- Maintain the charging station properly, do not place objects inside, and ensure it is free of debris.
- To prevent the risk of accidental resetting of the thermal cutout, this device should not be supplied through an external switching device, such as a timer, or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.
- Do not allow liquids to get into or onto the charging station. Do not pour liquids into the device or immerse it in water.
- Do not use the device outdoors or on wet surfaces.
- Do not use as a toy. Extra caution is advised when used by or near children.
- Use the device only as described in this manual.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charging station from the mains before cleaning.
- Keep the charging station and power cord away from heated surfaces.
NOTICE: The product must not be used with voltage converters. If voltage converters are used, the warranty will be void immediately. If you live in an area prone to thunderstorms, it is advisable to use a surge protector. The charging station can be protected with a surge protector in the event of severe thunderstorms. Do not use the device without dust bags and/or filters.
This symbol on the battery indicates that the battery must not be disposed of with unsorted household waste. As a consumer, you are responsible for disposing of your used battery in an environmentally sound manner as follows:
- Return to the retailer/dealer from whom you purchased the product, or
- Deposit at a designated collection point.
By separating and recycling waste batteries at the time of disposal, you will help conserve valuable resources and ensure that the batteries are recycled in a way that protects human health and the environment. For more information, contact your local recycling center or the retailer where you purchased the product. Improper disposal of waste batteries can have negative effects on the environment and human health due to the substances contained in the batteries.

Top View:
- Panel: Contains the robot's controls and indicators.

Using Your Roomba® Robot Vacuum
Positioning the Clean Base® Automatic Dirt Disposal:
- Ensure good Wi-Fi coverage.
- Place the Clean Base on a hard, level surface against a wall.
- Ensure there is adequate clearance around the Clean Base: 0.3 m (1 ft) upwards, 0.5 m (1.5 ft) on both sides, and 1.2 m (4 ft) in front.
- NOTICE: Do not expose the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal to direct sunlight. Ensure that nothing on the floor around the docking station obstructs docking.
- WARNING: To prevent the robot from falling down stairs, place the charging station at least 1.2 m (4 ft) away from any stair landing.
Charging the Robot and Connecting to Wi-Fi:
- Download the iRobot Home App and follow the instructions to set up your Roomba®.
- Schedule automatic cleanings and customize cleaning settings.
- Create a Smart Map to tell your robot where, when, and how to clean.
Charging and Robot Status:
- White Light Ring when Charging: The robot is charging.
- Solid White Light Ring: Fully charged.
- Pulsing White Light Ring: Charging.
- Pulsing Red Light Ring: Charging / Low battery.
- Place the robot on the Clean Base to activate charging.
- NOTICE: Your robot ships partially charged; it is recommended to charge the robot for three hours before starting the first cleaning task.
- If your robot needs to recharge during a cleaning mission, it will automatically return to the Clean Base. After sufficient charging, it will resume the cleaning mission from where it left off.
- The robot consumes a small amount of energy while on the Clean Base. You can put the robot into a more energy-saving mode when not in use. Refer to the iRobot Home App for instructions and details on low-power standby mode.
- To turn off the robot for extended storage, remove it from the Clean Base and press and hold the button for 10 seconds. Store the robot in a cool, dry place.
Cleaning
Remove any loose items from the floor before cleaning. Run the robot regularly to keep your floors consistently clean and tidy.
Starting/Pausing/Resuming Cleaning:
- Simply press the CLEAN button.
- Press to start/pause/resume.
- Press and hold for 3 seconds to end a task.
Automatic Dirt Disposal:
- During cleaning, your robot will automatically return to the Clean Base to empty its dust bin and recharge as needed.
- The Clean Base LED indicator will turn red when a new bag is needed. If blockages are detected, the Clean Base will make additional attempts to clear the blockage automatically.
- NOTICE: If you manually place your robot on the Clean Base, it will not empty automatically. In this case, use the iRobot Home App or press and hold the button for 2-5 seconds.
Your robot automatically explores and cleans your home. At the end of a cleaning mission and when it needs to recharge, it will return to the Clean Base on its own.
To send the robot back to the Clean Base, tap the ? icon. A blue light ring pattern indicates the robot is searching for the Clean Base.
If your robot detects a particularly dirty area, it will switch to Dirt Detect™ mode and pass over the area multiple times until it determines the area is sufficiently clean. The light ring indicator will blink blue.
Tap the ? icon to clean a specific area in SPOT Cleaning mode. For cleaning, the robot will spiral outwards from a central point approximately one meter in diameter, then spiral back to its starting point. The light ring indicator will show a blue spiral.
Roomba Combo™™™ Bin
Filling the Bin:
- Slide the pad down over the guide. Press the pad onto the plate to secure it.
- Fill the Combo Bin with water in the designated water tank. You can also use a compatible cleaning solution. Compatible cleaning solutions are listed at answers.irobot.com/s/roomba-combo-cleanser.
NOTICE: The bin begins to moisten the pad as soon as water is added to the tank.
Replacing the Bin:
- Remove the dust bin from the robot and insert the Combo Bin.
IMPORTANT: Do not turn the robot upside down when the Combo Bin is inserted.
Care and Maintenance
To maintain the full performance of your charging station, perform the following care steps:

NOTICE: iRobot manufactures various replacement and accessory parts. Contact iRobot Customer Care for information if you need a replacement part.
*Replacement frequency may vary. Parts should be replaced when signs of wear are visible.
Emptying the Dust Bin:
- Press the dust bin release button and remove the dust bin.
- Open the dust bin lid to empty the dust bin.
- Dispose of the used bag.
- Insert a new dust bag and slide the plastic card into the guide rails.
- Press down the control panel lid to ensure it is fully closed.
NOTICE: For optimal performance of your robot and automatic dirt disposal, clean and/or replace your robot's filter as needed.
Cleaning the Filter:
- Remove the bin. Remove the filter by gripping it with both hands and pulling it out.
- Remove any debris from the filter by tapping it against a waste bin.
- Reinsert the filter with the serrated grips facing outward. Reinsert the dust bin into the robot.
Important: The robot will not function if the filter is not installed correctly. Replace the filter every two months.
Cleaning Sensors for a Full Dust Bin:
- Remove and empty the dust bin.
- Wipe the internal sensors with a clean, dry cloth.
- Wipe the dust bin lid with a clean, dry cloth.
Washing the Dust Bin:
- Important: Do not wash the filter. Remove the filter before washing the bin.
- Release the dust bin, remove the filter, and open the dust bin lid.
- Rinse the dust bin with warm water.
NOTICE: The dust bin is not dishwasher safe. Ensure the dust bin is completely dry. Reinsert the filter and install the dust bin back into the robot.
Cleaning the Edge-Sweeping Brush:
- Use a coin or a small screwdriver to loosen the screw holding the edge-sweeping brush.
- Remove the edge-sweeping brush. Remove hair and debris and reinstall the brush.
Cleaning the Front Wheel Assembly:
- Firmly pull the front wheel module to remove it from the robot.
- Firmly pull the wheel out of the housing (see illustration below).
- Remove any debris from the wheel well.
- Reinstall all parts, ensuring the wheel snaps back into place.
Important: If hair or debris is on the front wheel, it can damage the floor covering. If the wheel does not spin freely after cleaning, contact customer service.
Cleaning the Multi-Surface Brushes:
- Press the brush frame release button, lift the button, and remove any foreign objects.
- Remove the brushes from the robot. Remove the brush caps from the ends of the brushes. Remove any hair or debris that has accumulated under the caps. Reinstall the brush caps.
- Remove any hair and debris from the square and hex-shaped shafts on opposite sides of the brushes.
- Remove the dust bin from the robot and clear all debris from the suction path.
- Reinstall the brushes into the robot. Match the shape of the brush shafts to the shape of the brush symbols in the cleaning head module.
Cleaning the Docking Target, Sensors, IR Window, and Charging Contacts:
- Wipe the sensors and charging contacts with a clean, dry cloth. Alternatively, you can use a melamine foam cleaning cloth to remove residue from the robot and the Clean Base charging contacts.
- Check the visual docking target, IR window, and charging contacts to ensure they are free of debris. Wipe them with a clean, dry cloth.
Important: Do not spray cleaning solution or water directly onto the sensors or sensor openings.
Installing the Chute Attachment:
- Remove the wipe pad plate from the Combo Bin.
- Remove the chute attachment by pulling the side rubber tab.
- Replace the chute attachment with a new one, pressing it firmly into its anchor to seal it and prevent leaks.
- Reinstall the wipe pad plate.
Troubleshooting
Automatic Dirt Disposal:

Press and hold the CLEAN button on your robot for 2-5 seconds to empty the dust bin. 2. Remove any debris from the port on the underside of your robot and the charging station. 3. Unplug the charging station. Lay it on its side and inspect the dirt disposal tube for obstructions. If necessary, remove the tube to clear any debris. This product is equipped with a thermal protector that protects it from damage due to overheating. If the protector is activated, the motor will shut off. If this happens, unplug the unit, let it cool down for 30 minutes, remove any foreign objects from the dirt disposal port and dirt disposal tube, and plug the unit back in. |
Robot:
Your robot will alert you with an audible warning and a red light ring indicator when something is wrong. Press CLEAN for details. For additional support and instructional videos, refer to the iRobot Home App.

Battery Safety and Shipping:
For optimal results, use only the iRobot Lithium-Ion battery that shipped with your robot.
WARNING: Strict transportation regulations apply to lithium-ion batteries and products containing lithium-ion batteries. If you need to ship this product or travel with it, you MUST follow the shipping instructions below.
- The battery MUST be turned off before shipping.
- Turn off the battery by removing the robot from the Clean Base and pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds. All indicator lights will turn off.
- Securely package the robot for shipping.
