Schwaiger STEM1180 Energy Meter: User Guide and Safety Instructions

Congratulations on purchasing the Schwaiger STEM1180. This user manual provides essential information for the setup and operation of your product. Please read these instructions carefully and keep them for future reference. Ensure the package contents are complete and undamaged.

Intended Use

The Schwaiger STEM1180 is designed to measure voltage, power consumption, and energy usage of connected electrical appliances. It also calculates the resulting energy costs and can measure energy feed-in from balcony power plants. This product is intended for private use only and is not suitable for commercial applications. Use only as described in this manual; any other use is considered improper and may lead to property damage.

General Safety and Warning Instructions

WARNING! Risk of Electric Shock!

Improper electrical installation or excessive mains voltage can cause electric shock. Do not operate if the product shows visible damage. Always check for damage before use. Damaged equipment or cables increase the risk of electric shock. Do not disassemble the product. Improper handling can lead to electric shock and malfunction. Ensure the mains plug fits the socket and is not modified. Repairs should only be done with original parts. Never immerse the product in water or touch it with wet hands. Keep away from open flames and hot surfaces. Do not operate in wet areas or in the rain. Protect from extreme weather conditions. Ensure no liquid enters the product and dry thoroughly if it does. Keep children from inserting objects into the product.

WARNING! Hazards for Children and Vulnerable Persons

This product can be used by children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they are supervised or instructed on safe use and understand the risks. Children must not play with the product. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by unsupervised children. Keep children younger than 8 away from the product. Do not leave the product unattended during operation. Do not let children play with the packaging film.

WARNING! Fire Hazard!

Improper handling can cause fire. Keep the product away from water, liquids, open flames, and hot surfaces. Do not cover the product. Do not place open flames near the product.

WARNING! Explosion Hazard!

Do not operate in explosive environments. Never exceed the maximum input voltage. Avoid strong vibrations. Do not expose to rain or extreme weather. Do not expose to extreme temperature fluctuations. Do not operate near strong magnetic fields. Never plug multiple sockets in a row. Use an easily accessible wall socket. The product is de-energized only when the mains plug is pulled out. Do not connect devices exceeding 3,680 W or 16 A.

IMPORTANT! Risk of Damage!

Improper handling can damage the product. Do not drop or expose to strong vibrations. Never place on or near hot surfaces. Do not let the product touch hot parts. Operate only from grounded outlets (230 V AC, 50 Hz). Unplug during lightning storms or when unused for long periods. Never expose to high temperatures or weather. Never pour liquid into the product. Do not immerse in water or use a steam cleaner. Do not use if plastic components are cracked or deformed; replace with original spare parts.

Operation in Detail

Checking Product and Supplied Package

Be careful when opening the packaging to avoid damaging the product. Remove the product, check the delivery for completeness, and inspect for any damage. If damaged, do not use and contact customer support.

Commissioning

1. Plug the earthed contact plug (6) into an accessible, properly installed earthed socket outlet. 2. Insert the mains plug of an electrical appliance or balcony power plant inverter into the earthed socket (5) of the product. 3. The connected appliance will be powered through the product's socket. Measured data will be displayed on the LCD (1). The measured voltage is displayed first.

Display

The LCD display (1) shows measured data in two lines:

Display ranges: V (0.0-999.9), W/kWh (0.0-9999), € (0.00-9999), € kWh (00.00-99.99).

Select Display Mode

Use the MODE button (2) to switch between Voltage (V) and Power (W) measurements. Use the UP button (3) to cycle through Total kWh, Total €, and € kWh displays.

Set Cost per Kilowatt Hour

1. Commission the product. 2. Select the "€ kWh" display mode. 3. Press and hold the MODE button (2) for approx. 3 seconds until the first digit on the second line flashes. 4. Use the UP button (3) to set the digit and press MODE (2) to confirm and move to the next digit. 5. Repeat for all digits to set the cost per kWh. 6. Press MODE (2) again to finish. The entry is automatically cancelled if no button is pressed for 10 seconds. Costs can only be set when the product is powered.

Resetting the Product

If the display shows an error or buttons are unresponsive, press the RESET button (4) with a thin, pointed object. Pressing RESET also clears all stored data. Data is automatically saved even during power outages.

Maintenance & Cleaning

WARNING! Risk of Electric Shock! Always unplug the power cord before cleaning.

Short Circuit Hazard! Prevent water or other liquids from entering the housing.

IMPORTANT! Risk of Damage! Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, metal or nylon brushes, or sharp/metallic cleaning objects. Clean with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent. Allow all parts to dry completely.

Disposal

Do not dispose of electrical and electronic devices or batteries with household waste. Return them to designated collection points or the point of sale as per national regulations. The symbol on the product indicates this requirement.
