Cerwin Vega HED Series Speakers Manual
Introduction
Upgrade your sound with Cerwin Vega's HED Series speakers, designed to transform every drive into a concert experience. These speakers deliver crystal-clear audio thanks to the responsive polypropylene cone, ensuring every beat and note is delivered precisely. The UV-treated foam surround keeps your sound pristine and ensures reliability for years.
Experience excellent audio clarity with the dynamically balanced 1/2" PEI tweeter, backed by a neodymium magnet for high-frequency brilliance. The integrated crossover with tweeter protection ensures smooth, distortion-free sound regardless of volume.
This combination, along with a strontium ferrite woofer magnet, provides the intense and enveloping sound expected from Cerwin Vega. The powder-coated, rigid stamped steel basket keeps vibration and distortion out. Jump into Cerwin Vega's HED Series and get your music right.
Installation
Installing the Speakers
Your new Cerwin Vega HED series speakers are designed for flexible installation in multiple locations. To ensure optimal performance, it's crucial to isolate the front sound waves from the rear sound waves by securely mounting the speaker to a flat baffle. Ensure a proper seal around the speaker frame to prevent air leaks.
Selecting a Location
If your vehicle has existing factory locations, the easiest method is to replace them with speakers of the exact same size. If no factory location exists, many places in a vehicle can accommodate speakers, but not all provide optimal sound. Take time to select the best locations. Mounting speakers at equal distances from your ears will yield the best results. Consult your local authorized Cerwin-Vega Mobile dealer for assistance if needed.
Door Mounting (if not using factory locations)
Before cutting, remove the door panel and check for clearance in the intended installation area. Ensure the window will operate fully without interference. Avoid cutting any structural metal supports or braces for speaker mounting. For the best sound, Cerwin Vega highly recommends applying sound deadening mat to the inner door skin. The more "damped" your car is, the better the sound will be.

Rear Deck Mounting
Two primary methods exist for mounting speakers in a vehicle's rear deck: top mounting and bottom mounting. Top mounting involves placing speakers through the deck from the interior, while bottom mounting secures them from underneath (trunk). Both methods require a good seal around the speaker frame for optimal performance.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows two methods of rear deck mounting: top mounting (speaker dropped through the deck) and bottom mounting (speaker mounted from underneath the deck).
Running New Wiring
When mounting new speakers, you'll typically use the factory wiring. However, if new wires are needed, take precautions. If wires must pass through metal, such as a door jamb, always use a grommet to prevent wire damage. Never run wires through bare metal, as this can damage the source unit, amplifier, or speakers. Ensuring wiring safety against short circuits is paramount.
The illustration shows how to connect one channel of the H65C/H675C/H80C/H4C/H525C H68C/H69C component system. The HT34 is similar but only has amplifier input and tweeter output.

Tweeter Installation
When flush or surface mounting tweeters, ensure the chosen location accommodates the required hole size and depth. Tweeters can also be surface-mounted on the dash, door, or rear deck. The flush mount requires cutting a 1.85" (47mm) round opening. Ensure at least 1 inch (25.4mm) of clearance behind the panel for the tweeter. Remember that saw teeth thickness adds to the cut diameter. Mount the surface cup at the desired angle using the provided hardware. Route speaker wires through the tweeter cup, connect them, and snap the tweeter into place by aligning the notches. Avoid pressing the center of the tweeter grill.

Crossover Installation
Install crossovers in a well-ventilated area whenever possible. If installing passive crossovers in doors due to factory wiring, place them behind the door panel, not inside the door itself, to prevent water damage. Avoid placing them near factory wiring looms to prevent radiated noise issues. Connect the "AMP" input side of each passive crossover to the amplifier's speaker output terminals, observing correct polarity. Connect the middle terminals labeled "MID" to the midrange speaker, ensuring wiring is protected and secure. Finally, connect the "TWT" terminals to the tweeter, observing correct polarity.
