Cerwin-Vega VEGA Series Subwoofers

Applications and Installation Notes

The VEGA Series subwoofers are designed for optimal performance and long-term reliability in bass-reflex (vented) enclosures. For best results, lining all inside box walls with 1-inch thick fiberglass or Dacron™ fiberfill is recommended. Ensure at least 4 inches of unobstructed clearance at both ends of the port tube, between the enclosure's inner walls and the port entrance, and between the port exit and the vehicle interior. For peak performance, the port should direct sound into the listening area.

Important Note: This manual provides two box volume and porting strategies for each model: one for "moderate power" and one for "high power." In automotive applications where space is limited, "moderate power" designs offer a smaller enclosure volume. However, at high power levels, these enclosures may produce port noise due to the driver's high output capability. Increasing the enclosure volume allows for a larger port area (in square inches), resulting in a manageable length and eliminating port noise. Using port flares or rounding the inside edges of the port tube(s) is advised to reduce internal port turbulence, which can cause sound coloration. The "high power" design is preferred for the highest overall output when possible. For any uncertainties, consult your local authorized Cerwin-Vega dealer for professional installation.
