Instruction sheet for Battery Holders
Gamry Instruments' dual-18650 (992-00158) and dual-CR2032 (992-00159) battery holders allow measurements on single batteries or two cells in series.
Product Overview
The document provides instructions for using Gamry Instruments' dual-18650 and dual-CR2032 battery holders. These holders facilitate measurements on individual batteries or two cells connected in series.
Dual-CR2032 Battery Holder: Designed for CR2032 coin cells.
Dual-18650 Battery Holder: Designed for 18650 batteries.
⚠️ Warning: Improper operation creates a safety hazard which can lead to fire, explosion, and emission of hazardous chemicals, potentially causing severe damage, personal injury, or death. Gamry Instruments, Inc. is not responsible for battery failures caused by misuse of the equipment or defects in battery construction.

Usage Instructions
For single-cell measurements:
? Tip: Place the positive pole of the coin cell upward when inserting into the CR2032 holder. For 18650 batteries, follow the printed + and – notations on the holder. Correct positioning and cable connections ensure positive voltage measurements.
Gamry strongly recommends measuring the potential of cells once they are mounted in the battery holders for a stable voltage measurement and good contact.
For series measurements:
A shorting bar is provided to connect both batteries for series measurements. The figure illustrates connecting cell leads from a potentiostat to the battery holder:
- Place the shorting bar into the connectors labeled 'series'.
- Connect the working lead (green) of the potentiostat to WE₁ and the counter lead (red) to CE₂.
- Connect the working sense lead (blue) to WS₁ and the reference lead (white) to RE₂.
The shorting bar introduces additional impedance. EIS spectra can be corrected by measuring impedance between CE₁ and WE₂ connected by a shorting bar, and then subtracting this from any EIS spectrum in the Echem Analyst™ software.
Connecting to other potentiostats
When connecting Gamry battery holders to potentiostats from other manufacturers, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for connecting current-carrying cables (counter and working) and sense leads (reference and working sense). Be aware that their cable color-coding may differ from Gamry's scheme.
An accessory kit (990-00406) is available to connect smaller 2 mm banana connectors.
