Gamry Instruments Cable Calibration Quick-Start Guide

Introduction

This guide provides essential steps for performing cable calibration on Gamry Instruments potentiostats. Proper calibration ensures accurate measurements and optimal performance of your electrochemical instrumentation.

Calibration Procedure

Follow these steps to calibrate your instrument's cables:

1. Connect Chassis Ground: Securely connect the potentiostat's Chassis Ground to a reliable earth ground source.
2. Connect Calibration Cell: Attach the appropriate cell cable to the correct receptacles on the included Calibration Cell. Refer to the table for specific potentiostat-to-cell pairings (e.g., Reference 600/600+ uses a 20 kΩ cell, while Interface 5000 uses a 200 Ω cell).
3. Prepare Calibration Cell: Place the Calibration Cell within the Calibration Shield, close the lid, and connect the cell cable's floating-ground lead to the shield's grounding post.
4. Launch Software: Open the Gamry Instruments Framework software. Navigate to Experiment > Utilities > Calibrate Cable Capacitance.
5. Configure Calibration: In the software, enter a unique name in the Cable Tag field. Select Cal Cable for a standard calibration or Zero Values to reset calibration data. Click OK.
6. Review Performance Tips: The Performance Tips window will appear. Confirm that all listed conditions are met, then click OK.
7. Verify Cell Connection: The Cell Required window will display. Ensure the correct Calibration Cell (e.g., 20k Resistor Dummy Cell) is attached as per your potentiostat's requirements. Click OK.
8. Complete Calibration: The calibration process will run. Once finished, the Done window will appear. Click OK to acknowledge completion.

Troubleshooting Calibration Warnings

If a Calibration Warning is encountered:

• Double-check connections: Verify that correct colors are attached to the Calibration Cell jacks, the floating-ground cable is connected to the calibration shield, and the Chassis Ground is properly connected if possible.
• Retry or Ignore: Click the Retry button to restart the calibration. For other warnings, click Ignore and proceed.
• Contact Support: If calibration fails repeatedly, locate the Calibration Results PC6-#####.txt file in your My Gamry Data folder (where ##### is your potentiostat's serial number). Email this file along with your contact information to Gamry Instruments Technical Support for assistance.
