BREWING COFFEE
Your Dual Carafe Coffee Maker is a 2-in-1 unit. Each side works independently. You can brew 2 pots at once, or 1 at a time.
NOTE:
The amount of brewed coffee will be less than the amount of water placed into the Coffee Maker, as about 10% is absorbed by coffee grounds and filter.
- Ensure both Power Switches are in the OFF (⚪) position.
- Plug Coffee Maker into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
- Fill 1 or both Thermal Carafes with cold water. Each Carafe holds approximately 32 ounces of water.
NOTE:
FILL CARAFES TO 1/2 INCH BELOW THE MOUTH. DO NOT FILL CARAFES TO THE VERY TOP.- Lift the Water Reservoir Covers and carefully pour water into 1 or both Water Reservoirs. Close Covers.
NOTE:
DO NOT FILL PAST THE “FILL HOLE” IN THE WATER RESERVOIR AS THIS WILL CAUSE WATER TO SPILL FROM UNIT.- Place Filter Basket(s) securely onto 1 or both of the Thermal Carafes.
- Place a paper #2 cone-shaped filter(s) into 1 or both of the Filter Baskets.
- Fill 1 or both Filters with desired amount of coffee. Add 1 level tablespoon of coffee for each cup desired. Use 1 scoop (equivalent to 2 tablespoons) for every 2 cups of coffee. Adjust amount to taste.
- Place the Filter Basket Cover(s) onto 1 or both of the Filter Baskets.
BREWING COFFEE (Continued)
- Carefully grasp the Handle of the Thermal Carafe(s) to move Filter Basket(s) with Cover(s) and place in position on the Non-Stick Warming Plate. (See Figure 1)
- Press the Power Switch(es) to the ON (⚫) position. The Switch will illuminate, indicating brewing has started.
- After brewing is finished, remove Carafe(s) from Warming Plate(s) and press the Power Switch(es) OFF (⚪). Carefully grasp Filter Basket(s) by the Handle, remove from Thermal Carafe(s) and discard coffee grounds.
- Place the Thermal Carafe Cover(s) onto the Carafe and close tightly. To serve coffee, turn the Lid(s) counter-clockwise [rotate slightly] until the arrow points directly at the handle of each Thermal Carafe.
NOTE:
The non-stick Dual Warming Plate is designed to maintain a lower temperature that will not harm the Thermal Carafes. It is safe to keep Carafes on the plate after brewing. The plate gets hotter during brewing but cools considerably afterward.
WARNING:
Warming Plate is hot! Do not touch Warming Plate during or after brewing.
BREWING A THIRD POT OF COFFEE
It is recommended to have the Coffee Maker in OFF (⚪) position for 10 minutes between cycles to allow the unit to cool. While OFF, dispose of used coffee filters, and rinse Thermal Carafe(s), Filter Basket(s), and Filter Basket Cover(s) in water. Place fresh filter(s) into 1 or both Filter Baskets. Repeat brewing procedure.
IMPORTANT:
If Coffee Maker is not allowed to cool before immediate repeated use, water in Carafes may become overheated. A spray of steam could be released, creating a risk of burns.
HINTS FOR GREAT TASTING COFFEE
- A clean Coffee Maker is essential for great tasting coffee. Regular cleaning is highly recommended.
- Always use fresh, cold water.
- Finer drip grinds promote fuller extraction and provide rich, full-bodied coffee. Regular grind requires slightly more coffee per cup for similar strength.
- Store coffee in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep tightly sealed in the refrigerator for freshness.
- For optimum coffee, buy whole beans and grind them finely just before brewing.
- Do not re-use coffee grounds, as this greatly impairs coffee flavor.
- Reheating coffee is not recommended; coffee is at its peak flavor immediately after brewing.
- Small oil droplets on brewed coffee are due to extraction of oil from grounds. Oiliness may occur more frequently with heavily roasted coffees. Overextraction can also cause oiliness, indicating a need to clean the Coffee Maker.
- Your Dual Thermal Coffee Maker is ideal for households preferring 2 separate blends. Offer caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee prepared simultaneously. Choose from various coffee varieties and flavors.
BREWING TEA
This unit is ideal for serving a "mixed" crowd: tea drinkers and coffee drinkers. When brewing tea, ensure Filter Basket and Carafe are thoroughly clean. If used for coffee previously, wash pieces with warm, soapy water and rinse well. Follow coffee brewing directions, but instead of coffee, place loose tea into the paper filter. For the first pot of tea, use 1 level teaspoon of loose tea per cup. Adjust strength by using more or less tea.
USER MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Any servicing requiring disassembly other than cleaning must be performed by a qualified appliance repair technician.
CARING FOR YOUR CARAFE
A damaged Carafe may result in burns from hot liquid.
To avoid breaking a Carafe:
- Do not allow all liquid to evaporate from Carafe while on the Warming Plate. Do not heat Carafe when empty. If this happens, discard Carafe.
- Discard Carafe if damaged in any manner. A chip or crack could result in breakage.
- Never use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers, as they will scratch and weaken the glass.
- Do not place the Carafe on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in a heated oven, or in a microwave.
- Avoid rough handling and sharp blows.
- Do not clean Thermal Carafes in the dishwasher. The glass liners cannot withstand the pressure and may break.
TO CLEAN
After regular use:
Unplug from outlet and allow unit to cool for 10 minutes. Thoroughly clean Thermal Carafes, Thermal Carafe Covers, and Filter Baskets in warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Wipe unit with a soft cloth to dry.
Once a month:
Mineral deposits from tap water can coat the Coffee Maker, causing slower brewing times and affecting coffee flavor. We recommend the following cleaning:
Pour 8 ounces of vinegar into each Thermal Carafe and fill each Carafe with cold water. Carefully pour the water from each Carafe into each Water Reservoir. Without coffee or filter paper, switch the unit to the ON (⚫) position and let the water run through the unit into the Thermal Carafes. Discard water after it has run through the machine. Rinse thoroughly.
Do not use any chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
IMPORTANT:
Do not clean Thermal Carafes in the dishwasher. The glass liners cannot withstand the pressure and may break. Never immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
TO STORE
Unplug appliance and allow to cool. There is a convenient Cord Storage area at the back of the machine. Feed the cord inside the storage area and store in its box or in a clean, dry place.
