BEFORE USING YOUR FARBERWARE DUAL THERMAL CARAFE COFFEE MAKER
To assure perfect tasting coffee, thoroughly clean both Thermal Carafes, Thermal Carafe Covers, and Filter Baskets in warm, soapy water before using your Coffee Maker. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Wipe the unit with a soft, slightly damp cloth or sponge to remove any packing dust.
CAUTION: Never immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or other liquid.
Before the first brew, run cold water through the coffeemaker without coffee or a filter to clean the Water Reservoir.
IMPORTANT: Always use cold water when brewing coffee.
COFFEE FILTERS
Cone-shaped paper filters (#2 size) are recommended. Permanent gold filters are also available. Basket-style paper filters are not recommended as they may cause coffee to back up and spill over during brewing.
BREWING COFFEE
Your Dual Carafe Coffee Maker is a 2-in-1 unit, allowing you to brew one or two pots simultaneously.
Note: The amount of brewed coffee will be approximately 10% less than the water added due to absorption by grounds and filters.
Brewing Steps
- Ensure both Power Switches are in the OFF ("O") position.
- Plug the Coffee Maker into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
- Fill one or both Thermal Carafes with cold water. Each Carafe holds approximately 32 ounces. Note: Fill to 1/2 inch below the mouth of the Carafe; do not fill to the very top.
- Lift the Water Reservoir Covers and carefully pour water into one or both Water Reservoirs. Close Covers. Note: Do not fill past the "FILL HOLE" to prevent water from spilling from the unit.
- Place Filter Basket(s) securely onto one or both Thermal Carafes.
- Place a #2 cone-shaped paper filter into one or both Filter Baskets.
- Fill one or both Filters with the desired amount of coffee. Use 1 level tablespoon of coffee per cup desired, or 1 scoop (equivalent to 2 tablespoons) for every 2 cups. Adjust to taste.
- Place the Filter Basket Cover(s) onto one or both Filter Baskets.
- Carefully grasp the handle of the Thermal Carafe(s) to move the Filter Basket(s) with Cover(s) and place them on the Non-Stick Warming Plate. (Refer to Figure 1).
- Press the Power Switch(es) to the ON ("I") position. The switch will illuminate, indicating brewing has started.
- After brewing is complete, remove the Carafe(s) from the Warming Plate(s) and press the Power Switch(es) OFF ("O"). Carefully grasp the Filter Basket(s) by the handle, remove them from the Thermal Carafe(s), and discard the coffee grounds.
- Place the Thermal Carafe Cover(s) onto the Carafe and close tightly. To serve, turn the lid(s) counter-clockwise until the arrow points directly at the handle of each Thermal Carafe.
Note: The non-stick coated Dual Warming Plate is designed to maintain a safe, lower temperature for the Thermal Carafes. It is safe to keep the Carafes on the plate after brewing. The plate gets hotter during brewing but cools down afterward.
WARNING: Warming Plate is hot! Do not touch during or after brewing.
BREWING A THIRD POT OF COFFEE
It is recommended to turn the Coffee Maker OFF ("O") for 10 minutes between cycles to allow the unit to cool. While off, dispose of used filters, and rinse Carafes, Filter Baskets, and Filter Basket Covers. Place fresh filters and repeat the brewing procedure.
IMPORTANT: If the Coffee Maker is not allowed to cool before immediate repeated use, water in the Carafes may become overheated, potentially releasing a spray of steam and creating a burn risk.
HINTS FOR GREAT TASTING COFFEE
- Regular cleaning of the Coffee Maker is essential.
- Always use fresh, cold water.
- Finer grinds promote fuller extraction and richer coffee. Regular grinds may require more coffee per cup for similar strength.
- Store coffee in a cool, dry place. Keep opened coffee sealed tightly, preferably in the refrigerator, for freshness.
- For best results, buy whole beans and grind them finely just before brewing.
- Do not reuse coffee grounds, as this impairs flavor.
- Reheating coffee is not recommended; coffee is best immediately after brewing.
- Small oil droplets on brewed coffee are due to oil extraction from grounds, especially with heavily roasted coffees. Overextraction can also cause oiliness, indicating a need for cleaning.
- This Dual Thermal Coffee Maker is ideal for households that enjoy multiple coffee blends, allowing for caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee to be prepared simultaneously. Explore various coffee varieties.
BREWING TEA
This unit is suitable for serving both tea and coffee drinkers. Ensure the Filter Basket and Carafe are thoroughly clean before brewing tea. If previously used for coffee, wash parts with warm, soapy water and rinse well. Follow coffee brewing directions, but place loose tea into the paper filter instead of coffee grounds. For the first pot of tea, use 1 level teaspoon of loose tea per cup, adjusting strength as desired.
USER MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Any servicing requiring disassembly beyond cleaning must be performed by a qualified appliance repair technician.
CARING FOR YOUR CARAFE
A damaged Carafe can cause burns from hot liquid.
To avoid breaking a Carafe:
- Do not allow liquid to evaporate completely while on the Warming Plate. Do not heat an empty Carafe. Discard if this occurs.
- Discard Carafe if it is damaged in any way, such as a chip or crack, as this can lead to breakage.
- Never use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers, as they will scratch and weaken the glass.
- Do not place the Carafe on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in a heated oven, or in a microwave.
- Avoid rough handling and sharp blows.
- Do not clean Thermal Carafes in the dishwasher, as the glass liners cannot withstand the pressure and may break.
TO CLEAN
After regular use:
Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Thoroughly clean Thermal Carafes, Thermal Carafe Covers, and Filter Baskets in warm, soapy water. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. Wipe the unit with a soft cloth to dry.
Once a month:
To remove mineral deposits that can affect brewing time and flavor, use a vinegar solution. Pour 8 ounces of vinegar into each Thermal Carafe and fill each with cold water. Carefully pour this mixture into the Water Reservoirs. Without coffee or filter paper, turn the unit ON ("I") and let the water run through into the Carafes. Discard the water and rinse thoroughly.
Do not use any chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
IMPORTANT: Do not clean Thermal Carafes in the dishwasher. The glass liners cannot withstand the pressure and may break. Never immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
TO STORE
Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool. A Cord Storage area is located at the back of the machine. Feed the cord into the storage area and store the unit in its box or in a clean, dry place.
