GreenPan Cookware: Care, Use, and Maintenance Guide
This guide provides essential information for the proper care, use, and maintenance of your GreenPan non-stick cookware, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
Getting Started: Before First Use
Before using your GreenPan cookware for the first time:
- Remove all packaging materials and labels. Please recycle responsibly according to local guidelines.
- Wash the cookware in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a soft cloth.
Cooking Recommendations
For Optimal Frying Results
- Preheat your pan on low to medium heat for a few seconds before adding a little oil or butter.
- Use heat settings appropriate for your ingredients. Avoid overheating to prevent food or oil from burning onto the pan. Never let your oil smoke or burn.
Preventing Warping
- Never leave empty cookware on a hot burner, as this can permanently damage the cookware and hob.
- Do not allow the cookware to boil or cook dry.
Energy Saving and Best Results
- Cook on a burner that is similar in base diameter to the pan you have selected.
- When cooking on gas, adjust the flame so it does not flare up the sides of the pan.
- The patented Thermolon™ coating distributes heat efficiently, making heat settings crucial. Lower heat settings conserve energy and minimize carbonization of food and oils.
- Always use heat settings appropriate for your ingredients.
Food Release
- Always start with a clean pan.
- Let your food warm to room temperature before cooking.
- Preheat your pan as described above.
- Normal wear and tear of the non-stick coating is expected. Prolonged exposure to high heat accelerates this process. Thermolon™ technology can withstand accidental overheating up to 450°C for short periods without releasing toxic fumes or damaging the coating.
- Even if non-stick properties diminish, the cookware remains safe to use with additional butter or oil.
Cooking Oils and Fats
- Use oils or butter suitable for baking and frying (i.e., oils with a high smoke point).
- Check product labels to ensure suitability for cooking.
- Avoid oil sprays (aerosols, mist, pump sprays).
Utensils
- While metal utensils can be used on the durable Thermolon™ coating, nylon, silicone, or wooden utensils are recommended to prolong the pan's life.
- The coating cannot withstand sharp objects or cutting (e.g., forks and knives).
Oven and Dishwasher Use
Refer to the table below for specific handle types and their compatibility with oven and dishwasher use:
Cookware / Glass Lid With: | Oven Safe (Glass Lid up to 220°C) | Dishwasher Safe |
---|---|---|
Stainless steel handle | Yes (Glass lid up to 220°C) | Yes |
Wood-Be handle | NOT oven safe | Yes |
Phenolic handle | Up to 160°C | Yes |
Stainless steel handle wrapped in silicone | Up to 200°C | Yes |
Wooden handle | NOT oven safe | NOT dishwasher safe |
Phenolic handle with cast aluminium V-shape | Up to 160°C | Yes |
Phenolic handle with patterns and cast aluminium V-shape | NOT oven safe (patterns may fade) | Yes |
Stainless steel handle with golden PVD coating | Up to 200°C | Handwash recommended |
Note: Stainless steel handles may discolor in the oven but this does not affect performance. Phenolic handles with V-shape parts can become hot during cooking. PVD coated handles may fade after dishwasher use.
Induction Hob Use
Induction hobs detect cookware via electromagnets on the outer edge. For proper detection and heating, the pan's base must contact the burner's outer edge.
Troubleshooting Pan Recognition
- Use the correct burner size: Ensure the pan's base diameter matches the induction coil size for optimal efficiency. If the burner is larger than the pan, it may not be recognized.
- Use a smaller burner: If a matching size burner is unavailable, select a smaller one.
- Position off-center: If no smaller burner is available, place the pan along the edge of the burner to ensure contact with the induction coil.
- Always consult your induction hob's manual for specific compatibility information.
Care and Cleaning
- Allow cookware to cool completely before cleaning.
- For best results and to preserve the non-stick coating's longevity, hand washing in warm, soapy water is recommended. Rinse and dry with a towel.
- While GreenPan™ products are generally dishwasher safe (except those with wooden handles), harsh dishwasher detergents (high salt, bleach, phosphates) can degrade ceramic coatings over time.
- Bare aluminum rims or rivets may discolor in the dishwasher but this does not affect performance.
- Do not use steel wool or nylon scrubbing pads.
- Removing Deposits (Carbonization): This occurs from prolonged exposure to high heat with fats/oils. To remove, empty loose food, fill the pan halfway with warm water, bring to a quick boil, and wipe clean with a soapy sponge. For stubborn residues, use a melamine foam sponge.
- Do not use oven cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or products containing chlorine bleach.
- Do not gouge or scratch the non-stick coating.
- Ensure your hob and cookware are free from debris to prevent scratches.
Storing Pans
To prevent scratches or chipping of the non-stick surface and edges:
- Avoid storing cookware with sharp metal utensils.
- Nest cookware carefully.
- Do not place lids with thin, sharp edges inside cookware.
- GreenPan™ pan protectors are recommended for storage.
