7 Product and safety information

For Your Safety

Read these guidelines carefully. Non-compliance may be dangerous or illegal. For more details, consult the complete user guide.

Switch Off in Restricted Areas

Switch off the device in areas where mobile use is prohibited or may cause interference or danger (e.g., aircraft, hospitals, near medical equipment, fuel, chemicals, or blasting sites). Obey all instructions in restricted areas.

Road Safety Comes First

Obey local traffic laws. Keep hands free for driving. Road safety is the priority.

Interference

All wireless devices can be susceptible to interference, which may affect performance.

Authorised Service

Only authorised personnel should install or repair this product.

Batteries, Chargers, and Other Accessories

Use only HMD Global Oy approved batteries, chargers, and accessories. Do not connect incompatible products.

Keep Your Device Dry

If your device is water-resistant, refer to its IP rating in the technical specifications for details.

Protect Your Hearing

Warning: Headset use can affect your ability to hear outside sounds. Do not use the headset where it could endanger your safety.

Avoid listening at high volumes for extended periods. Exercise caution when holding the device near your ear with the loudspeaker in use.

Emergency Calls

Important: Connection quality cannot be guaranteed. Do not rely solely on a wireless phone for critical communications like medical emergencies.

Before Making the Call:

1. Press the End key repeatedly until the home screen appears.

2. Dial the official emergency number for your location (numbers vary by region).

3. Press the Call key.

4. Provide information accurately. Do not end the call until permitted.

Additional Steps for Emergency Calls:

Take Care of Your Device

Handle your device, battery, charger, and accessories with care to maintain operational status.

The device may feel warm during extended use, which is normal. It may slow down, close apps, or switch off to manage heat. If issues persist, seek authorised service.

Recycle

Return used electronic products, batteries, and packaging to designated collection points to prevent waste and promote recycling. These products contain valuable materials that can be recovered.

Symbols and Information

Crossed-Out Wheelie Bin Symbol

This symbol on your product, battery, or packaging indicates that electrical and electronic products and batteries must be collected separately at the end of their life. Remove personal data first. Do not dispose of as unsorted waste; recycle instead. For recycling points, contact your local waste authority or visit www.hmd.com/phones/support/topics/recycle.

Battery and Charger Information

Check the printed guide for battery type (removable/non-removable).

Devices with a Removable Battery

Use only the original rechargeable battery. Batteries wear out over time; replace when talk/standby times decrease significantly.

Devices with a Non-Removable Battery

Do not attempt to remove the battery, as it may damage the device. Batteries wear out; seek authorised service for replacement when performance degrades.

Charging Your Device

Use a compatible charger. Charging time varies. Charger plug type may differ.

Battery and Charger Safety

Unplug the charger once the device is fully charged. Continuous charging should not exceed 12 hours. Batteries lose charge over time when unused.

Extreme temperatures affect battery life. Optimal performance is between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Cold temperatures can drain the battery quickly.

Obey local regulations for disposal. Do not expose batteries to extreme heat or pressure (e.g., fire), as they may explode or leak.

Do not dismantle, crush, or damage batteries. If a battery leaks, flush affected areas with water and seek medical help. Do not immerse batteries in water.

Use batteries and chargers only as intended. Improper use can cause fire, explosion, or other hazards, and may void warranties. If a battery or charger appears damaged, take it to a service centre. Never use damaged equipment. Charge indoors only. Do not charge during lightning storms.

If a charger is not included, use the data cable and a USB power adaptor. Third-party USB 2.0+ compliant cables/adaptors are acceptable, but ensure they meet safety standards.

To unplug, pull the plug, not the cord.

Small Children

The device and accessories are not toys and may contain small parts. Keep out of reach of children.

Medical Devices

Wireless phone signals may interfere with inadequately shielded medical devices. Consult a physician or manufacturer regarding shielding.

Implanted Medical Devices

To avoid interference with devices like pacemakers, maintain a minimum separation of 15.3 cm (6 inches) between the wireless device and the medical device. Persons with such devices should:

Consult your healthcare provider if you have questions about using your wireless device with an implanted medical device.

Hearing

Warning: Headset use can affect your ability to hear outside sounds. Do not use the headset where it could endanger your safety.

Some wireless devices may interfere with hearing aids.

Protect Your Device from Harmful Content

Be cautious when opening messages, as they may contain viruses or malicious software.

Vehicles

Radio signals can affect vehicle electronic systems. Check with your vehicle manufacturer for compatibility. Only authorised personnel should install the device in a vehicle. Faulty installation can be dangerous. Ensure all wireless equipment in your vehicle is properly mounted and operating. Do not store flammable or explosive materials near the device or its accessories. Do not place the device or accessories in airbag deployment areas.

Potentially Explosive Environments

Switch off the device in potentially explosive environments (e.g., near petrol pumps). Sparks can cause explosions or fires. Note restrictions in areas with fuel, chemical plants, or blasting operations. Areas may not be clearly marked but include places like below deck on boats or chemical transfer facilities. Check vehicle manufacturers for LPG compatibility.

Certification Information

This device meets radio wave exposure guidelines recommended by ICNIRP. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limit for mobile devices is 2.0 W/kg averaged over 10 grams of tissue.

SAR tests are conducted at the highest certified power level. The device meets RF exposure guidelines when used against the head or at least 1.5 cm from the body. Body-worn operation with accessories should maintain this separation and not contain metal.

Data/message sending requires a good network connection. Sending may be delayed.

General SAR values are typically lower than the limits due to automatic power reduction. Device models may vary.

For more information, visit www.sar-tick.com. Devices may transmit even when not making calls.

The WHO states current information does not require special precautions for mobile device use.

To reduce exposure, limit usage or use a hands-free kit. For RF exposure information, visit www.who.int/health-topics/electromagnetic-fields#tab=tab_1.

Refer to www.hmd.com/sar for maximum SAR values.
