Neewer S101 Studio Strobe Flash User Manual
Safety Instructions
To ensure the safety of users and others, please read the following safety advice before using this product. Pay attention to the precautions indicated in the manual. Check the product before use and do not use damaged parts.
- Do not place flammable materials near the flash or modeling lamp.
- Use a blower brush or a clean cloth to remove dust and moisture.
- Do not expose the product to direct sunlight for extended periods. The product should not be stored in direct sunlight.
- Never cover the ventilation openings.
- Do not use in rain, in a humid environment, or in other adverse weather conditions.
- Keep the operating environment free of cables. Keep this product out of reach of children and pets.
- Turn off the power and remove it before performing maintenance and installing or removing accessories.
- Do not use chemicals or liquids to clean the lamp. Do not immerse any part of the device in liquid.
- Except for the flash tube and the modeling lamp, do not disassemble or repair the device.
- The flash unit becomes warm during use. Do not touch the flash with your hands.
- The flash tube is fragile; handle with care during use to prevent damage.

Mounting
1. Installing the Studio Strobe Flash
- Mount the adapter onto the lamp tripod and tighten the retaining knob.
- Turn the adjustment knob to adjust the direction of the studio strobe flash.
2. Installing the Modeling Lamp
- Pull back the retaining buckle at the top. Turn the protective cap counterclockwise to align the buckle with the hole. Remove the protective cap.
- Install the modeling lamp by turning it clockwise.
- Remove the modeling lamp by turning it counterclockwise.
3. Replacing the Flash Tube
- Ensure the power is off and wear insulated gloves before replacing the modeling lamp and flash tube.
- Hold the 2 teeth of the flash tube and gently pull the tube outwards.
- Remove the steel wire from the tube.
- Remove the cover from the teeth of the old tube and reuse it for the new one.
- Align the 2 pins of the flash tube and insert them into the 2 connector holes.
- Wrap the steel wire around the stainless steel piece until the flash tube is secured.
4. Installing the Umbrella
- Align the position of the standard cap closure with the hole, push the standard cap inwards, and turn clockwise until the standard cap clicks into place.
- Open the umbrella.
- Pass the umbrella handle through the standard reflector and the umbrella holder, and tighten the fastening knob clockwise.
- The umbrella is now ready for use.
Note: The soft light umbrella is not included in the accessories and must be purchased separately.
5. Connecting the Trigger
- Attach the trigger to the hot shoe mount of the camera.
- If there is no hot shoe, it can also be connected with a sync cord.
Operating Instructions
1. Instructions for Using the Studio Lamp
Connect the cable to power the studio lamp and turn on the power switch.
- Adjust Power: Turn the "SET" knob to set the output power from "1/64" to "1/1". If "OF" appears on the display, the function is disabled.
- Group: Briefly press the "GR/CH" button, turn the "SET" knob to switch between groups ABCDE. Briefly press the "SET" button again to confirm.
- Channel: Press and hold the "GR/CH" button for 3 seconds until "CH number" flashes on the display. Turn the "SET" knob to select the channel. Briefly press the "SET" button again to confirm.
- Wireless Function: Briefly press the "S1/S2" + "GR/CH" key combination to turn the "wireless" function on or off.
- Wireless ID: Press and hold the "S1/S2" button for 3 seconds to set the ID to 01, 02-97, 98, 99, or "OF".
- S1/S2 Flash Light Control Mode: Briefly press the "S1/S2" button to switch to S1 or S2 flash light control mode. Press again to turn it off.
- S1 Flash Mode: The S101 flash can be used as a secondary light source to create various lighting effects. It is activated synchronously with the first flash of a main flash. This has the same effect as using a wireless flash trigger.
- S2 Flash Mode: In this mode, the flash can work in TTL mode and as a secondary flash. With the anti-flash function, when using a camera with a pre-flash function, the light control can be used to make synchronized shots. The flash activates synchronously with the second flash of the main flash (this is known as "2 times light control" flash).
- Sound Warning: Briefly press the "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" button to turn the sound warning on or off.
- Minimalist Mode: Press and hold the "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" button for 3 seconds to enter this setting and set it to "OF", 4.0, 4.1~9.9, or 10. Press the button again to exit.
- Restore Factory Settings: While the device is on, briefly press the "S1/S2" + "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" key combination to restore factory settings.
- View Version Number: With the device off, press and hold the "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" or "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" button and turn on the power to view the version.
- Modeling Lamp: Briefly press "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" to turn the modeling lamp on or off; press and hold for 3 seconds until "100" flashes on the display, then turn the "SET" knob to adjust the brightness of the modeling lamp. The setting range is 10~100 (in 10% increments).
- Test Flash: Briefly press the "<0xE2><0x9A><0xA0>" button to activate a test flash.
Note: The wireless ID is equivalent to the numerical password. The remote control ID of the lamp must be set to the same value when the wireless remote control activates the flash.
2. Instructions for Using the Trigger
- Set the trigger combination to match the studio lamp channel.
- Insert batteries into the trigger and turn on the power switch. Press the test button. If the indicator light turns red, the trigger is successfully connected to the studio light.
3. Setting Studio Lamp and Trigger Channel ID
If the studio lamp's ID code is off, the studio lamp and trigger must be set to the same channel to trigger the flash, as shown in the table below.

Notes:
- The camera is for illustration purposes only and must be purchased separately.
- Do not use the flash on passing vehicles.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product.
- Do not touch the product with wet hands.
- If flammable substances are present, turn off the modeling lamp every 10 minutes and let it cool before using it again.
- Do not subject the flash or modeling lamp to any form of physical shock, as this may cause internal damage.
- Do not activate the modeling lamp when the protective cover is in place.
- Turn off the power when the product is not in use or when moving the flash.
- Turn off the power immediately if you notice any abnormal operation during use.
- It is normal for the lamp housing to heat up slightly during use. Avoid continuous activation of the flash.
- Please note that flash tubes and modeling lamps are consumables and are not covered by the warranty.
