Important Cautions
Note related to transportation and movement
Before transporting or moving the unit, perform the following operations:
- Remove the CD or MD from the unit.
- Press the [Play/Pause] key of the MD.
- Wait for some time and verify that the display shows "MD NO DISC".
- Press the [Play/Pause] key of the CD.
- Wait for some time and verify that the display shows "CD NO DISC".
- Wait a few seconds and turn the unit OFF.
Operation to reset
If the microcomputer malfunctions due to power interruption or external causes, reset the unit by unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet and then plugging it back in while holding the [Power/Standby ⏻] key depressed. This initializes the microcomputer but clears previously stored memory.
Laser Product Warnings
CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT
The marking on the rear panel indicates the product is classified as Class 1, meaning no hazardous radiation is emitted externally.
CAUTION: INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION WHEN OPEN. AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM.
Internal laser diodes are classified as Class 3A/3B. Do not open the cover to avoid exposure to laser beams.
Adjustments
Tuner Adjustment
Tuning Level: For the FM section, adjust VR1 (at X09 C/6) until the ED1 (TUNED) indicator lights up.
CD Player Check
Enter test mode by pressing [CD PLAY/PAUSE] while turning the power ON.
Laser Power
Set the optical power meter on the pickup lens. On power-up, the display should show "03". The laser power should be between 0.05 to 0.15mW, with an RF level of 0.8Vp-p or more when the diffraction grating is correctly aligned.
Laser Current
Connect a DC voltmeter to CN25 (#1 and #2) in X09(B/6). Press the "PLAY" key. The display should show "03" or "05". The voltage should be between 220mV to 550mV.
Note: Use a SONY YEDS-18 Test Disc or equivalent. LPF: Around 47kΩ + 390pF.
