Getting Started

This manual provides instructions for setting up and using your Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition. All images are for illustration purposes only and may differ from the actual product by model and region.

Step 1: Connect the cables

Connect the power adapter to the router and a power outlet. Then, connect the Internet (WAN) port on the router to your DSL/Cable/Satellite modem using an Ethernet cable. If your internet connection uses an Ethernet cable directly from the wall, connect that cable to the router's WAN port.

Step 2: Set up the network connection

1. Connect your phone or computer to the router's Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi name is usually found on the router's panel. No password is required initially. Wait for the system indicator light to turn blue.
2. Open a web browser and navigate to router.miwifi.com or 192.168.31.1. You should be directed to the landing page for internet setup. The Mi Router EULA is available at http://www1.miwifi.com/router/eula/20191230.html.
3. Enter your broadband account name and password provided by your internet service provider. Click 'Next'. This step might be skipped depending on your connection type. If you've forgotten your credentials, contact your provider.
4. Set a new Wi-Fi name and password. You can choose to use the same password for your Wi-Fi and administrator access. Wait for the indicator light to turn blue and stop flashing, then reconnect to the Wi-Fi.

The web management website is router.miwifi.com. You can also download the Mi WiFi app to manage your router. The app offers features like QoS, unauthorized access prevention, and Wi-Fi optimization.

FAQ

I have finished setting up my network. Why can't I connect to the Internet?

Step 1: Search for the router's Wi-Fi network on your phone. If not found, ensure the router is powered on and has finished booting. Step 2: Connect to the router's Wi-Fi, go to router.miwifi.com, and use the network diagnostics to troubleshoot.

I've forgotten the administrator password for my router. What should I do?

If no specific password was set, it defaults to your Wi-Fi password. If this doesn't work, restore the router to factory settings and set it up again.

How do I restore my router to the factory settings?

Ensure the router has finished booting. Press and hold the 'Reset' button on the bottom for over 5 seconds until the system status light turns orange. The reset is successful when the router boots up again.

What do the different indicator lights mean on the router?

There are two indicator lights: the network status light (blue) and the system status light (blue, orange, purple).

Network status light (Blue)

• Off: No internet connection or problem with the port.
• On: Network connection normal.
• Flashing: Sending or receiving data.

System status light (Blue, Orange, Purple)

• Off: Switched off or not connected to power.
• Orange (flashing): System updating. (on, not flashing): System booting up.
• Blue (on, not flashing): Functioning normally.
• Purple (flashing): Safe mode. (on, not flashing): System failure.
