AD651B Talk Switch

Using the talk switch with Axient Digital ADX series transmitters adds push-button remote audio output routing for Axient Digital AD4 receivers. To activate audio routing, press and hold the talk switch.

Battery Installation

Install a battery to power the talk switch.

Diagram shows a finger pressing two release buttons on the side of a circular battery compartment. An arrow indicates the lid can be slid open. A coin cell battery with a '+' symbol is shown separately.

  1. Press the locking latches to open the battery cover.
  2. Insert the battery as shown, observing polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover.

Button Installation

1. Screw the microphone head onto the talk switch.

2. Screw the talk switch ring onto the transmitter body.

Tip: Rotate the talk switch ring to align it with the display.

Diagram shows a microphone head being attached to the talk switch unit, and the talk switch unit being attached to a transmitter body. A rotating ring is visible on the talk switch.

Receiver Output Routing Selection

Talk switch routing is configured in the receiver channel menu.

Configuration options allow switching between the following receiver outputs by pressing the button:

  1. In the receiver channel menu, select: Advanced > Talk Switch/Output Routing.
  2. Use the control knob to select output routing parameters.
    • Normal: When the button is released, the selected On/Off setting applies to the output.
    • Pressed: When the button is pressed, the selected On/Off setting applies to the output.
  3. Select Exit to save and return to the channel menu.

The 'Talk Switch/Output Routing' menu displays routing options for 'NORMAL' (button released) and 'PRESSED' (button pressed) states across XLR, TRS, AES3, and Dante outputs. For example, 'NORMAL' might be 'Off' for XLR and 'On' for TRS, while 'PRESSED' might be 'On' for XLR and 'Off' for TRS. A note indicates that for AES3, the switch is off, and AES3 1&2 and 3&4 are muted.

Note: In the example shown, pressing the button enables the XLR output and disables the TRS output.

Assigning Talk Switch to Transmitter

To enable remote control, the talk switch must be assigned using the Talk Sw parameter in the transmitter menu.

  1. Navigate to the transmitter’s Utilities menu and select Talk Sw.
  2. Select O to add the talk switch.
  3. Press the talk switch twice to assign it. The talk switch model name will appear on the display to confirm the assignment.
  4. Press the talk switch to confirm control. The talk switch icon and battery status will be displayed with each button press.

Diagram shows a small device with a button labeled 'T' and another button labeled 'OK', along with a battery status indicator.

5. To exit, press X.

Tip: To unassign the talk switch, highlight the button name in the transmitter’s Talk Sw menu and select ѵ. Press O to confirm.

Audio Output Routing with Talk Switch

When the talk switch is pressed, receiver audio is routed to the selected output. Releasing the button restores routing to the normal signal paths.

Tip: The channel icon color on the receiver display inverts when the talk switch is pressed.

Diagram shows a receiver display interface labeled 'View 1'. It lists two channels: 'Channel 1' and 'Channel 2'. Each channel shows status icons, a time display (4:38), and frequency information (605.350 MHz for Channel 1, 605.925 MHz for Channel 2). Icons include signal strength, battery level, and a link symbol.
