Important Warnings
WARNING! Before transmitting, ensure the antenna (C2) is connected, or if using a CB antenna with the mobile charger module (C3), ensure the SWR is set correctly. Failure to do so may damage the power amplifier, which is not covered by warranty. The flexible antenna (C2) covers all European frequencies. Never use two antennas simultaneously, as this may destroy the device.
MULTI-NORMS TRANSCEIVER! Refer to page 20 for function "F" and page 34 for the Configuration table. Warranty is valid only in the country of purchase.
Introduction
Welcome to the PRESIDENT JERRY, a new generation CB radio offering top performance. This manual guides you through installation and usage to maximize its capabilities.
A) Mobile Configuration
1) Antenna Installation
Steps:
- Remove the flexible antenna (C2) from the device.
- Connect the CB antenna to the mobile charge module (C3).
- Clip the mobile charge module (C3) to the bottom of the unit.
a) Choosing Your Antenna
For CB radios, longer antennas generally provide better results. Consult your dealer for antenna selection.
b) Mobile Antenna Installation
Mount the antenna on a vehicle with a large metallic surface (ground plane), away from windshields. If a radio-telephone antenna is already installed, the CB antenna should be higher. Antennas are either pre-regulated (requiring a good ground plane like a car roof) or adjustable (offering greater range for smaller ground planes). For drilled mounts, ensure good contact between the antenna and the vehicle body by lightly scratching the surface. Be careful not to pinch or short-circuit the coaxial cable.
c) Fixed Antenna Installation
Install fixed antennas in a clear space. Mast-mounted antennas may require staying according to local laws. PRESIDENT antennas are designed for maximum efficiency.
2) Basic Operations Before First Use
Ensure antenna connections are secure. Turn the unit on using the Power knob (1) clockwise. Set squelch OFF. Adjust volume to a comfortable level. Select channel 20 using the channel selectors (3).
3) Adjustment of SWR (Standing Wave Ratio)
WARNING: This procedure is crucial for first-time use and after repositioning the antenna. Perform in an obstacle-free area.
Using an external SWR-meter (e.g., TOS-1 PRESIDENT):
- Connect the SWR meter between the CB radio and the antenna (max. 40 cm / 15.75 inches cable).
- Set the CB to channel 20.
- Set the SWR meter to FWD (calibration).
- Press the PTT switch (14) to transmit.
- Adjust the SWR meter using the calibration key until the needle points to the calibration mark.
- Switch the SWR meter to REF to read the SWR level. Aim for a reading as close to 1 as possible (1 to 1.8 is acceptable).
- Re-calibrate the SWR meter after any antenna adjustment.
Cable Recommendation: PRESIDENT recommends using cables less than 3 meters (118.11 inches) to avoid signal loss.
