2020 Subaru Outback
Welcome to the all-new 2020 Subaru Outback. Go where love takes you.
Introduction
Guided by an outward passion.
The outdoors runs deep in the 2020 Outback. With standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and up to 33 MPG¹, it's designed to show you more of your surroundings. Subaru's passion for nature is at the core of its work with the National Park Foundation and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Respect for the environment begins with getting outside, and the Outback makes that second nature.
Our parks need our love. It takes knowledge to preserve national parks. Subaru partners with Leave No Trace to educate people around the country about responsible outdoor enjoyment.

Capability
Be where ZIP Codes mean nothing.
The Outback remains sure-footed even at the farthest reaches. It features 8.7 inches of ground clearance and standard X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control for tackling various terrains. Retractable roof cross bars with integrated tie-downs are available for extra gear. The newly available turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® engine delivers 260 hp, 3,500 lbs. of towing capacity², and up to 30 MPG¹. The Outback Onyx Edition XT offers black exterior accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, and dual-function X-MODE® for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud.

Respect Wildlife:
- Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them.
- Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health and alters natural behaviors.
Cargo & Comfort
Savor that small amount of time you spend inside.
The 2020 Outback offers a spacious interior with 109.0 cubic feet of passenger space³. Available amenities include an 8-way power passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel⁴. The Onyx Edition XT features water-repellent StarTex™ upholstery, while the Touring model offers a Nappa leather-trimmed interior. Plan Ahead and Prepare:
- Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit.
- Use a map and compass to eliminate the use of marking paint, rock cairns or flagging.
Safety
An extra set of eyes every time you drive.
Every Outback includes standard Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology⁵. This suite of features monitors traffic, optimizes cruise control, and warns you of lane drift. It can even apply the brakes automatically. EyeSight® has been found to reduce the rate of rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85%⁶.
Key Safety Features:
- Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering: Keeps you centered in your lane and at a safe distance from the car ahead.
- Pre-Collision Braking: Can automatically slow or stop the vehicle if a collision is imminent.
- Lane Departure and Sway Warning: Alerts you if you drift out of your lane.
- Pre-Collision Throttle Management: Reduces engine power to aid in avoiding a collision.
- Blind-Spot Detection⁴,⁷: Senses vehicles in your blind spots and warns you via side mirror indicators.
- Rear Cross-Traffic Alert⁴,⁷: Detects approaching traffic when backing up and alerts you.
- Reverse Automatic Braking⁴,⁸: Helps stop the vehicle if an object is detected behind it while reversing.
The Outback is built on the Subaru Global Platform with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. It also offers an available 180-Degree Front View Monitor⁴. Subaru is committed to bringing advanced safety systems to more drivers.
Creating safer roads by reducing distracted driving: Subaru's DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System⁴,¹² is designed to detect distracted or drowsy driving and provide visual and auditory alerts, acting like an attentive co-pilot.

Minimize Campfire Impacts:
- Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans or mound fires.
- Keep fires small. Use only sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand.
