Safety & Warnings
- Read all instructions before using. Retain all instructions for future reference.
- The kettle is rated 220-240V~50-60Hz 1850-2200 W. Ensure your home's voltage supply corresponds to this.
- Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter or touch a hot surface.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
- Do not operate the kettle without water to avoid damaging the heat elements.
- Ensure the kettle is used on a firm and flat surface out of reach of children to prevent overturning and avoid damage or injury.
- To protect against fire, electric shock, or personal injury, do not immerse the cord, electric plugs, or kettle in water or other liquids.
- If the cord is damaged, cease use immediately and contact Kogan.com.
- While water is boiling or just after, avoid contact with steam from the spout.
- Always pour boiling water slowly and carefully without tipping the kettle too fast.
- Be careful when refilling the kettle when it is hot.
- If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected.
- Do not touch the hot surface; use the handle or the button.
- The kettle is only to be used with the provided stand.
- Ensure the kettle is switched off before removing it from its stand.
- The kettle must not be immersed into water.
- Use caution when moving the kettle containing hot water.
- This kettle is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed on safe use. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the kettle.
- The use of accessories not recommended by Kogan.com may result in fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
- Unplug the kettle from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow the kettle to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
- To disconnect, turn the power switch to "off," then remove the plug from the wall outlet.
- Do not use the kettle for other than its intended use.
- Always ensure the lid is closed and do not lift it while the water is boiling. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during brewing cycles.
- Do not operate the kettle on an inclined surface. Do not move the kettle while it is switched on.
- Do not use this kettle outdoors.
- This kettle is intended for household and similar applications such as: Staff kitchen areas, Farm houses, Hotels, Motels, Bed and breakfast establishments.
- To prevent damage, do not use alkaline cleaning agents when cleaning. Use a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Follow the Care & Cleaning section instructions.
Overview
The Kogan SmarterHome™ 1.7L Smart Kettle features:
- Spout: For pouring water.
- Lid: Covers the kettle opening.
- Lid Release Button: Opens the lid.
- Handle: For holding and lifting the kettle.
- Water Level Gauge: Shows the amount of water inside.
- Power Button: Turns the kettle on or off.
- Power Base: Connects to the power outlet and holds the kettle.
- Temperature Buttons: Allows selection of preset temperatures (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, 100°C).
- Keep Warm Button: Activates or cancels the keep-warm function.
- Wi-Fi Indicator: Shows Wi-Fi connection status.
Manual Operation
Control Panel Functions
- Power Button (⌀): Turns the kettle on or off. Resets the Wi-Fi connection.
- Temperature Buttons (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, 100°C): Presets the keep-warm temperature. The 100°C button is used for boiling and to reset Wi-Fi connection.
- Keep Warm Button (⚛): Activates or cancels the keep-warm function.
- Wi-Fi Indicator (Indicator Light): Shows Wi-Fi connection status.
Before Using Your Kettle
For first-time use, clean the kettle by boiling the maximum capacity of water once and discarding it. Repeat twice. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth. The maximum capacity is 1.7 litres.
Using Kettle to Boil Water
- Place the kettle and power base on a flat surface.
- Remove the kettle from the power base, open the lid using the lid release button, fill with the desired amount of water (between Min and Max levels), and close the lid. Too little water may cause the kettle to switch off before boiling. Note: Do not fill over the 'maximum' line to prevent spillage. Ensure the lid is firmly in place before plugging in.
- Plug into the power outlet; you will hear a beep.
- Position the kettle on the power base.
- Select a preset temperature (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, or 100°C). Press the power button; the kettle starts heating. The indicator lights of the selected temperature button and the power button will be on.
- When the water reaches the selected temperature, the indicator light of the selected temperature button will remain solid, and the power button indicator light will turn off.
- Lift the kettle from the power base and pour the water. Note: Pour carefully to avoid scalds. Do not open the lid while the water is hot.
- The kettle can be stored on the power base when not in use. Note: Refill after each use to save time and avoid dry boiling.
Boiling Tips
- Press the power button to stop the kettle during heating.
- The kettle enters sleep mode if removed from the power base or if there is no operation for over 3 minutes during heating. Replace the kettle on the power base and press any button to enter standby mode.
Using Keep-Warm Mode
Note: The appliance enters keep-warm mode after heating to a selected preset temperature, for up to one hour.
- Follow steps 1-4 in the "Using Kettle to Boil Water" section.
- Select a preset temperature (70°C, 80°C, or 90°C). Press the keep warm button; its indicator light turns on.
- Press the power button; the kettle starts heating. The indicator lights of the selected preset temperature button and the power button will be solid. The keep warm button indicator light will blink.
- When the water reaches the selected temperature, the kettle stops heating and automatically enters keep-warm mode. The indicator lights of the selected preset temperature button and the keep warm button will be solid. The power indicator light turns off.
- The kettle will keep warm for an hour. During this process, the indicator lights of the selected preset temperature button and the keep warm button will remain solid.
- After this process, all indicator lights turn off, and the kettle enters sleep mode.
- Lift the kettle from the power base and pour the water. Note: Pour carefully to avoid scalds. Do not open the lid while the water is hot.
Keep-Warm Mode Tips
- The kettle will reheat water to the preset temperature if it drops 3°C below the preset temperature during keep-warm mode.
- Press the power button or keep warm button to stop the keep-warm process.
- If the kettle is removed from the power base for less than 3 minutes and then replaced, it will continue to keep warm based on the preset temperature.
Boiling with Keep-Warm Mode
Note: The appliance first boils water, then cools to the selected temperature and keeps it warm for one hour.
- Follow steps 1-4 in the "Using Kettle to Boil Water" section.
- Select your desired preset temperature (70°C, 80°C, or 90°C). Hold and press the keep warm button for more than 3 seconds, then press the power button. The kettle will start heating to 100°C.
- After heating to 100°C, it will cool to your chosen temperature and keep warm for an hour.
Connect to SmarterHome™ App
Install App
Download the "Kogan SmarterHome" app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
Register
If you do not have a Kogan SmarterHome™ account, register or sign in with a verification code sent by SMS.
To register:
- Tap to enter the registration page.
- The system automatically recognizes your country/area. You can also select your country code manually. Enter your email address and tap 'Next.'
- Alternatively, select 'Register by mobile number' and enter the verification code sent via SMS.
- Create a profile to define your location and room.
Set Device in Pairing Mode
The device may automatically enter pairing mode (Wi-Fi indicator blinking rapidly) when first turned on. If not connected within 10 minutes, manually set it by pressing and holding the 100°C temperature button for over 3 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator blinks rapidly.
Add Device Through Network
- Once registered, tap "+" on the app's home page to add a new device.
- Select the product type (Kitchen Appliances > Kettles).
- Ensure the device is in pairing mode (Wi-Fi indicator blinking rapidly) and tap "Confirm light is rapidly blink".
- Enter your Wi-Fi details. Ensure the device and app are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- The device will pair and connect to the app. Keep your router, phone, and device close until connection is complete.
- After adding, you can rename the device and assign it to a location. It will appear on the app's home page. Tap the listing to access its control page.
Notes:
- The device and app must use the same Wi-Fi network.
- The device is compatible only with 2.4Ghz networks.
Having Trouble Connecting? (AP Mode)
If standard connection fails, try "AP mode". Follow steps 1-4 from the standard connection, then press and hold the power button for 3 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator blinks slowly.
- Once registered, tap "+" on the app's home page.
- Select the product type (Kitchen Appliances > Kettles), then select "Other Mode" from the top-right corner.
- Select "AP Mode" for the setup type.
- Ensure the device is in pairing mode (Wi-Fi indicator blinking slowly) and tap "Confirm light is slowly blink".
- Enter your Wi-Fi details. Ensure the device and app are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Follow in-app prompts to continue AP Mode connection, pairing your phone to the device's Wi-Fi hotspot. Note: If the Wi-Fi hotspot doesn't appear, repeat the steps to ensure the device is ready.
- The device will pair and connect. Keep your router, phone, and device close until connection is complete.
- After adding, you can rename the device and assign it to a location. It will appear on the app's home page. Tap the listing to access its control page.
Notes:
- The device and app must use the same Wi-Fi network.
- The device is compatible only with 2.4Ghz networks.
SmarterHome™ App Operation
Temperature Measurement Conversion
After connection, adjust the default temperature between 40°C and 100°C in the app. Tap "°C" or "°F" to switch.
Add to Home Screen
Note: This allows quick access to the kettle control interface from your smartphone home screen.
- Tap the edit ✎ icon in the upper right corner, then tap "Add to Home Screen".
- Follow the app's instructions.
Change the Kettle Name in the App
Note: Essential for controlling the kettle via Alexa/Google Home.
- Tap the edit ✎ icon in the upper right corner, then tap the bar showing the kettle's name.
- Select "Name" to input a new name, then tap "Confirm".
Share the Device Control
Note: Ensure family members have the Kogan SmarterHome™ app downloaded and registered to share control.
- Tap the edit ✎ icon in the upper right corner and select "Share Device".
- Tap "Add Sharing" and input the registered account details. Device sharing is complete.
- The other registered user will receive a notification on their smartphone app and can control the kettle.
App Notifications and Alerts
Note: Enable push notifications in the Kogan SmarterHome™ app for alerts.
Kettle Leave Alert
When the kettle is removed from the power base, a "Kettle Leave" alert appears on the control page, and the kettle cannot be operated from the app.
Boil-dry Alert
The kettle enters boil-dry protection mode if operated without water. It will turn off automatically, and all indicators on the power base will blink. The app shows a "Water Less" alert and sends a smartphone notification. The kettle cannot be operated by the app.
To resolve:
- Press and hold the 100°C temperature button for over 3 seconds; all indicators on the power base will blink.
- Follow instructions in the "Connect to SmarterHome™ App" section to complete connection.
- Refill the kettle with cool water. The kettle can be operated normally. Note: Be careful not to touch hot surfaces during this operation.
Wake-up Function and Scheduling
Schedule the date and time for the kettle to start boiling.
To schedule:
- From the control page, go to the "Add Schedule" screen.
- Set the date and time for boiling. This can be a one-off task or a recurring activity.
Wake-up Notifications
Note: With notifications enabled, you will receive alerts even when not using the app. Notifications will pop up and disappear.
A "Schedule Task – Started" push notification is sent when the kettle is turned on (manually or by schedule). A "Schedule Task - Completed" notification is sent when boiling is finished.
Temperature Memory Function
When the kettle is removed and replaced on the power base, or reconnected after power off, the last setting is automatically applied.
Temperature Button Indicators
When 70°C, 80°C, 90°C, or 100°C is selected in the app, the corresponding indicator on the power base illuminates. Other temperature values selected in the app will not illuminate the base indicators.
Keep-Warm Function on the App
The keep-warm function can be turned on or off via the app. The maximum keep-warm temperature is 95°C.
Wi-Fi Memory Feature
After reconnection, the kettle defaults to Wi-Fi connecting mode. It automatically connects to the last used Wi-Fi network.
Voice Commands
Controlling Kettle via Alexa/Google Home
Note: Voice commands work when the kettle is on and heating.
After connecting your kettle to Google Home or Amazon Alexa, ensure the device is listed with the same name in both the assistant app and the Kogan SmarterHome™ app. For example, if named "Smart Kettle", ask your assistant to "turn on Smart Kettle".
Switch On/Off
Use the voice command: "turn on the kettle". The last setting's temperature will be applied. The kettle will switch off automatically upon reaching the target temperature. You can also turn it off remotely via voice command.
Set the Temperature
Use the voice command: "set the kettle to [temperature]°C". The kettle will heat directly to the target temperature.
Check the Temperature
Use the voice command: "what is the current temperature of the kettle?" The kettle will respond with "the kettle is set to X degrees and the current temperature is Y degrees". Note: Target temperature can only be changed after turning the kettle on.
Cleaning & Care
Always disconnect the kettle from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Never immerse the kettle, power cord, or power base in water or allow moisture to contact these parts.
- Wipe the body with a damp cloth or cleaner. Do not use poisonous cleaners.
- Clean the filter periodically. Detach the filter by pressing the tab inside the kettle and replace it after cleaning.
- CAUTION: Do not use chemical, steel, wooden, or abrasive cleaners on the kettle's exterior to prevent loss of gloss.
Removal of Mineral Deposits
Periodically descale the kettle to remove mineral deposits that can form scale and reduce efficiency. Use a commercially available descaler or white vinegar:
- Fill the kettle with 3 cups of white vinegar, add water to cover the bottom.
- Leave overnight, then discard the solution.
- Fill with clean water to maximum, boil, then discard.
- Repeat step 3 several times until the vinegar odour is gone. Rub any remaining stains inside the spout with a damp cloth.
Disposal
This marking indicates the appliance should not be disposed of with household waste. Recycle responsibly to promote sustainable reuse of material resources and prevent harm to the environment or human health.
