Hiwill-Audio N512 Soundbar User Manual
Model: N512
14. User Guide – What You Hear ≠ Just the Soundbar
Great sound quality depends on the source, the connected device, and the soundbar itself. A single weak link can diminish the overall experience.
Great sound = Quality Source + Proper Device + Soundbar
Key Recommendations for PCM Systems:
- Always disable Dolby/DTS processing in source devices.
- Prefer lossless audio platforms (e.g., Tidal, Apple Music) when possible.
- For compressed services, maximize quality settings.
- Avoid YouTube if alternatives exist for critical listening.
15. Recommended Connection Methods for Devices
Connection Method | Recommendation | Notes |
---|---|---|
TV | HDMI ARC/Optical | Set to PCM output. |
Blu-ray/Media Player | HDMI | Configure audio output as PCM. |
Game Console | HDMI | Set to PCM output for consistent audio. |
Phone | Bluetooth | Quality limited by compression. |
Laptop/Desktop | HDMI (preferred), Avoid Bluetooth/AUX | PCM ensures compatibility. |
Important Notes on Connections:
- Always prefer ARC or optical cable over Bluetooth for optimal audio quality.
- This soundbar does not decode Dolby Digital or DTS formats.
- If your source device outputs Dolby or DTS and the soundbar doesn't support decoding, you may experience no sound, static, or reduced audio quality.
- To ensure proper audio output, set your TV or Blu-ray player's audio settings to: Audio Settings → Digital Output → PCM.
16. Audio Source Quality Comparison (PCM-Only Systems)
Platform | Quality Tier | Codec | Max Bitrate | Dolby/DTS Support | Recommended Settings |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tidal HiFi | Lossless | FLAC (PCM) | 1411 kbps | ❌ | Enable "HiFi" mode in app settings. |
Apple Music | Lossless | ALAC (PCM) | 24-bit/192kHz | ❌ | Disable "Dolby Atmos" in audio settings. |
Spotify Premium | High | Ogg Vorbis | 320 kbps | ❌ | Set quality to "Very High" in preferences. |
YouTube Music | Medium | AAC | 256 kbps | ❌ | Use "Premium" for best quality. |
YouTube | Low | AAC | ~128 kbps | ❌ | Avoid for critical list. |
Better Sound Starts with the Right Source – PCM-Only Edition
Great speakers can only sound as good as the content allows. If your music sounds unclear or flat, try a higher-quality source first. Some platforms like YouTube compress audio to prioritize video streaming, which may result in loss of detail, reduced clarity, and narrower soundstage. When using Apple Music (with Atmos), Tidal Atmos, or streaming via devices like Apple TV or Fire TV, Dolby formats may be output. Please disable Dolby audio settings on your device to avoid no sound.

4. Surround Speaker Placement Guide (By Room Size)
Proper speaker placement is crucial for the best surround sound experience. Refer to the table below for recommended distances based on room size.
Room Type | Room Reference | Recommended Placement Distance (Left/Right Channels) | Recommended Listening Distance | Setup Tips & Notes | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Metric | Imperial | Metric | Imperial | |||
Small Room | < 10 m² / < 108 ft² | 0.6-0.8 m / 2-2.6 ft | 1.5-2.0 m / 5-6.5 ft |
| ||
Medium Room | 10-20 m² / 108-215 ft² | 1.2-1.5 m / 4-5 ft | 1.5-2.5 m / 5-8 ft |
| ||
Large Room | > 20 m² / > 215 ft² | 1.5-2.5 m / 6.5-10 ft | 2.5-3.5 m / 8-11.5 ft |
|
Important Placement Notes:
- Do not place speakers too close to walls or corners, as this can amplify bass resonance and lead to unclear sound, especially in small rooms.
- Always use a subwoofer for deep bass frequencies.
- Do not block the front sound baffle of the speakers. Objects like curtains, sofa backs, or cabinets can interfere with high-frequency dispersion and clarity.
- Adjust the height and tilt angle so the speakers are at ear level when seated.
- Set the source device (TV/Player) volume to 80-100% initially, then adjust the soundbar volume for optimal clarity and dynamics.
- Fine-tune EQ parameters based on testing: Each room has unique acoustic properties. Adjust bass/treble balance and surround levels based on your listening experience, or use the preset Movie/Music modes.
Essential Notes:
- Regardless of room size, it is recommended to position the left/right surround speakers and the center speaker with adequate spacing to enhance the surround soundstage.
- Avoid blocking the front sound baffle of the speakers.
Rear View Diagram Description:
The diagram shows the rear layout of the sound system. The soundbar is at the front, with connection ports labeled. The front left (FL) and front right (FR) speakers connect to the soundbar. The rear left (RL) and rear right (RR) speakers are positioned behind the listener. The diagram indicates connection points and suggests optimal placement relative to the listener and soundbar.
5. Setup Instructions
Step 1: Choose Speaker Position
- Place the center speaker on a piece of furniture or mount it on the wall.
- Mount the front speakers on the wall or position them to the left and right of the TV to expand the front soundstage.
- Position the rear speakers behind or next to the sofa. They are wired to each other and do not require a cable to the soundbar.
- Position the subwoofer near the center speaker or TV.
- Tip: For optimal sound quality, all speakers should be positioned at or slightly below ear level when seated.
Step 2: Connect Front Speakers
- Connect each front speaker to the left/right outputs of the center speaker using the 3m (10ft) cables.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the respective speaker, ensuring correct channel assignment (FL↔Left, FR→Right) for accurate stereo imaging.
Step 3: Set Up Rear Speakers (Wireless to Soundbar)
- Cable Connection: Connect the two rear speakers using the provided 6m (20ft) cable.
- Channel Assignment: Active Rear Speaker (with power supply): Right Channel (RR). Passive Rear Speaker: Left Channel (RL).
- Ensure correct placement (RL↔L, RR↔R) for a precise surround experience.
- Power Supply: Connect the 2m power cable to the active right speaker (RR) and plug it into a power outlet.
- Confirmation & Note: A solid blue LED on the active speaker indicates a successful connection. Pairing is done at the factory; manual pairing is not required.
- Important: Incorrect positioning of the left and right speakers will impair surround sound accuracy.
Step 4: Connect Subwoofer
- Use the subwoofer's connection cable to connect it to the "SUB OUT" port on the center speaker.
- Position the subwoofer in front of the TV cabinet or to the side, keeping it at least 10 cm (4 inches) away from the wall for optimal bass reproduction.
Step 5: Select Input Source
- Connect your audio source using HDMI ARC, Optical, AUX, USB, or Bluetooth. (Refer to page 20 for detailed instructions.)
Step 6: Connect Power Supply
- Connect the switching power supply to the "DC IN" port on the center speaker, connect the other end to the power cable, and plug it into the power outlet.
Step 7: Power On and Settings
- Press the power button to turn on the center speaker; the system will start in standard mode.
- Use the remote control to select your desired audio mode (Movie, Music, News, Game).
Enjoy a personalized sound experience!
Note: To avoid cable clutter, secure excess cable lengths with the included Hiwill-Audio hook and loop fasteners.
6. Important Notes
- All wired connections must be fully established before wireless pairing.
- Ensure all cables are securely plugged in.
- Secure the connection cable between the rear speakers to prevent tripping hazards.
- Place all speakers away from heat sources and ensure adequate ventilation.
