2 Settings

2-1 Setting and Display Overview

Nomenclature and Function

(1) Switch Channel to Set Threshold

CH Setting Mode

  1. Briefly press the [MODE] button in Measurement mode.
  2. Press the [MODE] button to cycle through CH-1 and CH-2.
  3. Press the [MODE] button again to return to measurement mode.

Note: When Area Output is ON, displays show CH1H, CH1L, CH2H, CH2L for thresholds.

(2) Detect for Workpiece Presence/Absence

2-point Tuning

Used to distinguish between two objects with different heights (e.g., OK/NG, workpiece/background, workpiece A/B).

  1. Without a workpiece, press the [TUNE] button once (within 1 sec). The display shows [tunE] → [t-p1] → [pnt 2].
  2. With a workpiece, press the [TUNE] button again. The display shows [tunE] → [t-p2] and 2-point tuning is completed.

Note: The order of workpieces does not matter.

(3) Detect for Workpiece Presence/Absence (Tuning Only Using Reference Surface)

1-point Tuning

Used to judge presence/absence of a workpiece by referring to a pre-determined background (reference surface).

  1. Without a workpiece, hold the [TUNE] button (3 to 5 seconds) until [tunE] blinks.
  2. When [tunE] blinks, release the [TUNE] button. The display shows [tunE] → [t-p1] and 1-point tuning is completed.

Note: To set plus/minus tolerance using "0" as background, perform zero reset first, then 1-point area tuning.

(6) When (2) to (5) Methods Failed

Tuning mode without Workpiece (Area Output is OFF): Used for judging presence/absence based on background. Handles complex shapes or low light levels by judging them as workpiece present.

Tuning mode without Workpiece (Area Output is ON): Assigns upper/lower limits to reference surface distance. Handles complex shapes or low light levels by judging them as workpiece present.

Note: TUNE1/TUNE2 inputs can be used for CH1/CH2 tuning respectively. Tuning type can be fixed. Background suppression function can be enabled by setting ON and tuning. EEPROM write life is 100,000 times.

2-2 Output and Threshold Value

Diagram Description: Shows the relationship between measured values, thresholds, and output states (OUT1, OUT2) for Area Output OFF and Area Output ON scenarios. Explains normal-open and normal-closed output polarity.

2-3 Tuning

Quick Reference for Tuning Operation

Select CH using [MODE] button, then use [TUNE] button for tuning:

2-4 Fine Adjustment of Threshold Value

Use [UP]/[DOWN] buttons to slightly adjust threshold values (Threshold 1/1H/1L, Threshold 2/2H/2L). Indicators OUT1/OUT2 blink during adjustment.

2-5 Fine Adjustment of Hysteresis Width

Hysteresis width prevents unstable judgment output near boundaries. It sets the distance between the operating point (threshold) and the return point. Adjusting hysteresis width can help distinguish small steps, but may cause unstable output with low reflection light.

3 Convenient Setting Features

(1) Reset the Present Distance to "0"

Zero Reset: Sets the current distance value to "0". Press [MODE] + [TUNE] buttons simultaneously. Zero reset indicator turns ON. Can also be performed via external zero reset input.

Zero Reset Cancel: Press [MODE] + [TUNE] buttons simultaneously for 3+ seconds to cancel. Can also be cancelled via external zero reset input.

(2) Avoid Mis-operation

Key Lock Function: Disables button operations in Measurement mode. Press [MODE] + [TUNE] buttons simultaneously for 3+ seconds to lock (display shows [LOC]). Key lock state is retained after power cycle.

Key Lock Cancel: Press [MODE] + [TUNE] buttons simultaneously for 3+ seconds to unlock.

4 Detailed Settings

Enter Menu Setting mode by holding the [MODE] button for 3+ seconds. Settings are common to CH1 and CH2.

1. Output Polarity (Pol): Selects output polarity (Normally-open or Normally-closed). Affects output ON/OFF behavior.

2. Tuning Type (Type): Selects tuning method (e.g., 2-point tuning, 1-point tuning, tuning without workpiece). Fixes tuning method and external input allocation.

3. Response Time (SPd): Sets response time (Standard: 100ms, High-speed: 10ms, Super high-speed: 1ms). Longer response time recommended for stable detection.

4. Keep Function (YEEP): Sets output content during measurement errors (E-dr, E-brt, E-our) or before measurement confirmation. Options include: Both outputs OFF, Monitor output (clamp value), or outputting the last valid value.

5. Scaling (SCAL): Configures analog output range (4-20mA) relative to measured values. Allows setting initial and arbitrary measurement values for 4mA and 20mA outputs.

6. Background Suppression Function (SAR-E): Makes the sensor sensitive only to the workpiece during tuning. Restricts sensitivity and measurement values based on tuning sensitivity. Effective after setting ON and performing tuning. Smart tuning indicator (Blue) confirms activation.

7. Hysteresis width (HY5): Sets hysteresis width to prevent unstable judgment output. Standard setting provides initial width; User setting allows arbitrary width. Smaller width allows distinguishing small steps but may cause instability with low reflection.

8. Timer Function (TMR): Sets timer operation time (Off-delay, On-delay, One-shot, On/Off-delay). Used for specific output timing requirements.

9. Area Output (A-ER): Enables or disables area output. When enabled, output is ON when measured value is within Threshold L to Threshold H range. ON/OFF is reversed for "tuning without workpiece" mode. CH1 and CH2 switch simultaneously.

10. Zero Reset Memory (SA): Holds the zero reset value after power off (enabled) or resets on power cycle (disabled). Enabling writes to EEPROM (100,000 write cycles limit).

11. Eco Function (Eco): Saves power and turns off digital display after 30 seconds of inactivity in RUN mode. Normal display returns on button press.

12. Setting Reset (RST): Resets all settings to factory defaults. Requires confirmation (YES.P).
