Glomex weBBoat 4G Lite Quick Reference Guide
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your Glomex weBBoat 4G Lite.
Initial Setup
- STEP 1: Open the weBBoat® 4G Lite upper radome using a screwdriver (not supplied).
- STEP 2: Pull out the SIM card tray by pushing the button (Fig. 1) with a SIM card needle (not supplied) or a pen tip. Place the SIM card into the SIM card tray and slide it back into the slot. Important: Insert the SIM card when the weBBoat® 4G Lite is off. It is recommended to remove the SIM PIN code before inserting the SIM card. The PIN can also be entered via the App (STEP 8). Note: US carriers do not use PIN codes.
- STEP 3: Connect the weBBoat® 4G Lite to a 12 or 24 Vdc source. Important: This unit is not protected against excessive current or short circuit. A 1 amp fuse is recommended for protection during installation.
- STEP 4: Download and install the weBBoat Lite APP on your device from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Scan the QR code (Fig. 2). Note: This guide refers to the iOS version; Android screens may differ slightly.
- STEP 5: Connect your mobile device (e.g., smartphone) to the weBBoat® 4G Lite WiFi network (Fig. 3). The default WiFi network name (SSID) is weBBoat_XXXX (where XXXX is unique for each device) and is not password protected. Note: It is advised to create a password (minimum 8 characters) after initial setup to secure the network (see STEP 12).
- STEP 6: Open the weBBoat® 4G Lite App. Tap the "+" button in the top right corner (Fig. 4). Tap the QR Code button. Scan the QR Code on the router and press "Save" (Fig. 5). You can rename the device after scanning. Alternatively, connect by tapping "+" (Fig. 4) and manually entering the Serial Number found below the QR Code label (Fig. 5). Note: The QR code and Serial Number are on the bottom-right of page 2 of this guide.
- STEP 7: Select the weBBoat® 4G Lite from the list (Fig. 6). Enter the administrator password: admin (Fig. 7). Then, tap the Login button. Note for iOS users: For quick access, tap the star icon to select weBBoat devices in the list.
Configuration Wizard
- STEP 8: In the "Setup Wizard", select your preferred language (English, Italian, French, Spanish, German). English is the default. To unlock the SIM card, enter the PIN code if needed. Choose the country corresponding to your SIM card provider and select the related APN from the drop-down list (Fig. 9). To enter an APN manually, tap "Custom APN". Note: Verify the correct APN with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If your APN is not in the default list, contact webboat@glomex.it.
- STEP 9: In the "Setup Wizard", the Autoswitch option is disabled by default. Enable "Autoswitch" to automatically switch between WiFi and 4G/3G if the external WiFi signal (e.g., marina WiFi) is lost. When using 4G/3G, if the same external WiFi is detected again, the weBBoat® 4G Lite will automatically switch back to WiFi. To enable this, tap the "Enable" button (Fig. 8). Tap the "WiFi Scan" button (Fig. 10), select an available external WiFi network, tap OK, and enter the password if required. Tap "Save" to proceed (Fig. 11). Warning: The connection between your mobile device and weBBoat® 4G Lite may be lost during Autoswitch configuration. Reconnect if necessary before proceeding. Skipping the Setup Wizard is not recommended. Important: Tap "Save" in the "Setup Wizard" to save all configuration settings (Fig. 10).
Control Panel and Modes
- STEP 10: After tapping "Save", the Control Panel will display automatically. This section shows signal information, SIM card status, and the APN in use (Fig. 12). If Autoswitch is not enabled, tap the "Autoswitch" button to enable it (Fig. 12).
- STEP 11: In the "Control Panel", choose one of the following Mobile modes (Fig. 12):
- Auto: weBBoat® 4G Lite connects to the network providing the best Internet connection.
- 4G only: weBBoat® 4G Lite connects only to the 4G network.
- 3G only: weBBoat® 4G Lite connects only to the 3G network.
Advanced Settings
- STEP 12: To customize the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password, tap the Menu button (Fig. 13) and select "Advanced settings". Go to "WiFi Configuration". Change the SSID and select the encryption type. Enter the password and tap "Save" (Fig. 14). Suggestion: Use WPA2-PSK encryption for better security. Note: Do not use spaces or special characters in the SSID or password. After changing these settings, the weBBoat® 4G Lite will reboot automatically. Close the App, reconnect your mobile device to the new weBBoat® 4G Lite Wi-Fi network, and reopen the App.
- STEP 13: To change the Administrator password, tap the Menu button (Fig. 13) and "Advanced settings". In the "Administrator Password" section, enter the new password in both fields and tap "Save". Important: Keep the new password in a safe place. If the password is lost, restore the device to factory default settings using the Reset button on the back of the router (Fig. 15). To restore, press and hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds until all 5 signal strength LEDs (Fig. 16) are ON. The device will reset all custom changes to factory defaults upon reboot. Close the App, reconnect your mobile device to the weBBoat® 4G Lite Wi-Fi network, and reopen the App.
- STEP 14: When firmware and APN list updates are available, an "Upgrade" button will appear in the "System Updates" menu (Fig. 17). Tap "Upgrade" to perform the update and wait a few minutes. Important: The weBBoat® 4G Lite will reboot automatically after the firmware upgrade. Close the App, reconnect your mobile device to the weBBoat® 4G Lite Wi-Fi network, and reopen the App. DO NOT POWER OFF THE WEBBOAT 4G LITE DURING INSTALLATION.
