Glomex weBBoat 4G Plus EVO Quick Reference Guide

This guide provides essential steps for installing and configuring your Glomex weBBoat 4G Plus EVO marine internet system.

Getting Started

  1. Step 1: Insert SIM Cards

Insert two Micro SIM cards into the external slots with the cut edge facing inwards. Ensure the weBBoat 4G Plus EVO is powered off before insertion. It is recommended to remove the SIM PIN code beforehand, or enter it via the app later. Note: US carriers typically do not use PIN codes.

    Figure 1: SIM card insertion.

  2. Step 2: Power Connection

Connect the weBBoat 4G Plus EVO to a 12 or 24 Vdc power source. Important: The unit is not protected against excessive current or short circuits. Use a 1 Amp fuse for protection during installation.

  3. Step 3: Download the weBBoat App

Download and install the weBBoat App on your mobile device from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. You can scan the provided QR code (Figure 2) to find the app.

Figure 2: QR code for app download.

  4. Step 4: Connect to weBBoat WiFi

Connect your mobile device (e.g., smartphone) to the weBBoat 4G Plus EVO's WiFi network. The default network name (SSID) is 'weBBoat_XXXX' (where XXXX is unique to your device) and is not password protected. It is strongly advised to set a password (minimum 8 characters) after initial setup (see Step 11).

  5. Step 5: Add Device in App

Open the weBBoat App. Tap the '+' button in the top right corner (Figure 4). Tap the 'QR Code' button and scan the QR code on the router (Figure 5). You can rename the device after scanning. Alternatively, manually enter the Serial Number found on the router's label (Figure 5).

  6. Step 6: Select Device and Login

Select your weBBoat 4G Plus EVO from the list in the app (Figure 6). Enter the administrator password. The default password is 'admin' (Figure 7). For iOS users, tap the star icon for quick access.

  7. Step 7: Setup Wizard - Language & APN

In the 'Setup Wizard', select your preferred language (English, Italian, French, Spanish, or German). English is the default. If required, enter the SIM card PIN code to unlock it. The 'Auto APN' option is selected by default for automatic connection (Figure 8). To configure APN manually, deselect 'Auto APN' and choose from the list or enter a custom APN (Figure 9). Consult your SIM card's Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the correct APN. For assistance, contact webboat@glomex.it.

  8. Step 8: Setup Wizard - Autoswitch & WiFi Scan

The 'Autoswitch' option is disabled by default. Enable it to automatically switch between WiFi and 4G/3G if the external WiFi signal is lost. If the external WiFi is detected again, it will switch back automatically. Tap 'Enable' (Figure 8). Then, tap 'WiFi Scan' (Figure 10), select an available external WiFi network, and enter the password if required. Tap 'Save' to proceed (Figure 12).

Control Panel and Settings

  1. Step 9: Access Control Panel

After tapping 'Save', the Control Panel will display automatically (Figure 13). This shows signal status, active SIM, and APN. If Autoswitch is not enabled, tap the 'Autoswitch' button to enable it.

  2. Step 10: Select Mobile Modes

In the Control Panel, choose a mobile mode: Auto (best connection), 4G only, or 3G only. You can select the active SIM by clicking the SIM selector (Figure 13). Other management options include: Autoswitch (as described in Step 9), Mobile Only (forces mobile connection), WiFi Only (forces WiFi connection), and SAT Only (forces SAT input connection). Note: Nearby WiFi networks may affect performance.

  3. Step 11: WiFi Configuration

To customize your weBBoat 4G Plus EVO's WiFi network name (SSID) and password, tap the Menu button (Figure 14) and select 'Advanced settings'. Go to 'WiFi Configuration'. Change the SSID and select the encryption type. Enter your password and tap 'Save' (Figure 15). For better security, use WPA2-PSK encryption. Do not use spaces or special characters in the SSID or password. The device will reboot after changes.

  4. Step 12: Administrator Password & Reset

To change the administrator password, tap the Menu button (Figure 14) and select 'Advanced settings'. In the 'Administrator Password' section, enter the new password in both fields and tap 'Save'. Keep your password secure. If lost, use the Reset button on the back of the router (Figure 16) to restore factory defaults. Hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds until all 5 signal strength LEDs (Figure 17) are lit. The device will reboot with default settings.

  5. Step 13: System Updates

When firmware and Auto APN database updates are available, an 'Upgrade' button will appear in the 'System Updates' menu (Figure 18). Tap 'Upgrade' to perform the update and wait a few minutes. The weBBoat 4G Plus EVO will reboot automatically upon completion. Do not power off the device during the update.
