Important Safeguards

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS VACUUM CLEANER.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury:

Polarized Plug: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fully fit into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do NOT change the plug in any way.

CE Rating System (Cleaning Effectiveness): This is not an Amp rating. Amps do not measure dirt removal, only the amount of electricity used. CLEANING EFFECTIVENESS is the average ASTM F608 cleanability score.

How to Assemble

CAUTION: Assemble the cleaner completely before plugging into an electrical outlet. Make sure the switch is in the Off position.

Diagram Description: The vacuum cleaner consists of a main body (A), a floor nozzle (B), an upper handle (C), and a lower handle (D). Other parts include the power switch (E), dust cup latch (F), dust cup (G), filter assembly (H), stair cleaning hand grip (I), handle button (J), electrical cord (K), and quick cord release (L).

  3. Push the handle assembly (C and D) down into the body while pressing the handle button (J) on the back of the body (A). The handle will click into place.
  4. There are two handle positions available: fully up and fully down. The handle button (J) needs to be depressed to raise and lower the handle assembly (C and D).

How to Use

CAUTION: With moving parts, ensure the power switch (E) is in the OFF position before plugging into an electrical outlet.

Power Switch

Note: Experiment with your hard floor surface; sometimes it is best to have the brushroll turning (switch in the "carpet" position).

  1. Push the handle button (J) to release the lock and slide the handle assembly (C and D) up until fully extended. The handle will lock in place.
  2. Unwrap the electrical cord (K) and plug into an appropriate outlet.

How to Maintain

These instructions serve as a guide to routine maintenance. Keep the cleaner operating at top efficiency. Empty the dust cup after each use.

Note: Turn off the power switch (E) and unplug the electrical cord (K) before servicing.

Empty Dust Cup

(Refer to Fig. 4)

  1. Push the dust cup latch (F) to release the dust cup.
  2. Rotate the dust cup (G) out from the body (A).
  3. Remove the dust cup filter (H) from the dust cup (G), shake the contents of the dust cup into a waste container. (See Fig. 5)

  5. Rotate the dust cup into position and push gently into the body until the latch catches.

Clean Dust Cup Filter

Clean the dust cup filter (H) as necessary.

  1. Remove the dust cup (G).
  2. Grasp the handle inside the filter and pull the filter out of the dust cup (G). (See Fig. 7)
  3. Shake and brush the dust and dirt from the filter (H).
  4. To replace the filter (H), push it into the dust cup (G) so that the flexible rim of the filter fits securely into the dust cup.
  5. If desired, launder the filter by hand in warm water using a mild detergent.
  6. Air dry thoroughly.
  7. Reinstall the filter (H) in the dust cup (G).

Replace a dirty or torn filter. Order additional dust cup filter, part number 63170.

Note: The dust cup filter is not dishwasher safe. Do not put in dishwasher.

Brushroll and Blockage Checks

Brushroll:

Note: Turn off the power switch (E) and unplug the electrical cord (K) before inspecting the brushroll.

Long hair, thread, string, etc., can wrap around the revolving brushroll and result in reduced performance. To check the brushroll for debris, turn the cleaner nozzle over and inspect for wrapped matter. Use scissors to cut debris from the brushroll.

How to Check for Blockages

Note: Turn off the switch and unplug the electrical cord before checking for blockages.

If suction performance diminishes, check for blockages in the suction path.

  1. Remove the dust cup (G) and set aside.
  2. Inspect for blockages inside the hole area (M) at the base of the body (A) opening. Use a tool or coat hanger to remove any blockage. (See Fig. 8)
  3. Reinstall the dust cup (G).
  4. Flip the vacuum over and inspect the dirt channel in the brushroll area. Open the access door by pulling back on the access door latch (N) and lifting up. (See Fig. 9) Check for blockages. Remove any blockages with a tool or coat hanger. Close the access door.
